Post by Verghese Siminway on Jan 26th, 2005, 7:20am

Who do you think'll win the tourney (note: OTHER than you!) this year? Last year I really expected K'hral or some of the marine CO's to win, but I was a bit surprised when none of them made it through the finals.

For this year tho, I bet it's either one of the Changs, or with luck, Q'ol again :D

Tauvitis did well last year. He might be there once more.

Someone should run a Ferengi to take bets in-character.

Anyone want to represent the Ferengi Odds-Makers' and Bookies' Guild at the Tournament?

Krahl was doing that last year with Frem and what not - i think this is an excellent idea, maybe also have some people take bets and see who wins the most money.

I'm not a Ferengi, but I'm also not competing...

Hey boss! Any objections to me moonlighting as a bookie while we're hosting this competition?

The only reason I don't want to see Ta'pez win again is sheer variety. Though it'll infuriate people plenty, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

My money's on Q'ol this year. Definitely one of the Klingons, as there aren't that many non-Klingons who are quite that strong. I'll wait and see for the scores to verify that statement, mind.

if Ta'pez wins again he (character)  will not participate in the next since then there is no warrior equal to his skill.

Maybe, to ensure he can keep coming along, he should try fighting with great honour? A novel consideration for a Chang, but here it might well serve a purpose, and thus the concept might not be so horrendous... ;)

i remember a blue skinned admiral being as he put it "handed his ass to him"  by a Chang in most honorable combat.

What many miss is that when you piss off a Chang and accuse him of being dishonorable he just might prove you right.

By human perspective, a lost battle. But from a Klingon one, neither of them truly lost the fight. ;)

thats certainly the case - and i think we went drinking - but the point i was trying to make is the following

K'brd Lok make it a point to piss of my House, the night before I tried to  make amends for past misunderstandings -  they peeved me off and i had my revenge

to make it short and sweet - dont bother a snake thats sleeping

Hmmm...  Conversation sound fun.  Though can't say anything about past experience as this is my first time.  I am just hoping to have fun, and meet a few people.  Hopefully leave my own mark in the tournament.  Have been playing Klingon for a few years, can always improve though.  My Character in Tournament is M'Rek as you can see.  A new Hybrid for you.  Hirogen/Klingon

Don't think I better pick on Ta'pez, he might send me to scrubb duty on the lower decks of the meH'Haj hehe.   ;D

Besides, I'm the one who will patch you all up, so I can do a really crappy job if I'm up against you.

J/K

Since the human behind the computer here feels it is distastful to bet on their own character.  I would bet on Ta'pez.    ;D

A Klingon Warrior would rather die than accept medical attention from a Starfleet Doctor.  Besides, Klingons are much more sturdy than you weaker humans  ;D

Not bad... for a bolian.

actually, the doctor has the advantage in the sense that not onyl does he know a significant amount of klingon physiology, but he would also know where all the weak points are, and disabling which organs would actually stop a klingon more than a klingon marine would.

Then comes the problem of actually using such knowledge however.

do you seriously think that klingon marines are not familiar with that knoledge - they train and prefer bladed weapons over energy weapons.

more to the poin their specialy is close combat...

Title: Re: Get your bets in
Post by TalVur on Feb 7th, 2005, 2:36am

Thanks Siminway. Nice to see not everyone is on the Klingon's side. To answer to Ta'pez's question, yes I do. I would liken it to the Klingon version of a better Starfleet Marine.

I'm not honestly saying that I can more than likely beat KTar. We humans call it 'bullshitting'. Try and extract a sense of humor before the tournament, Ta'pez. There are enough non-Klingons around that I think you ay be needing it.

And that's not an insult to you, that's me 'bullshitting' some more. If I wanted to insult I would say "Hab SoSlI' Quch!" but alas, I would't mean it.

Oh, and I look forward to meeting all of you at the tournament. tuqwIj tebpu' batlh 'ej wo' matlh tuqwIj

I'd back Tauvits over you any day, Ta'pez.

Oh, and try not to lose to a woman...more than that, a former crewmember. Good luck against, G'trell. You'll need it. I'll even buy you a consolation drink when you lose.

you do not know me TalVur, do not judge a book by its cover - isnt that what romulans are apt @ ?

G'trell is worthy oponent and it is a shame I have to face her right away. Fighting my crew is not exactly something I wish to do.

*bows* If I recall correctly, when you beat me, mine was the greater display of honourable combat. It all depends on how we're defining 'success'. If I'm using a Klingon one, then which one are you using?

Title: Re: Get your bets in
Post by Falco_Tauvits on Feb 7th, 2005, 6:01pm

We unfortunately had little opportunity to incorporate the respective scores into the post. But if I recall correctly, 'twas something along the lines of Tauvits fighting with a -2 penalty modifier for Great Honour against a warrior with much greater skill than he, and Ta'pez fighting an inferior opponent with no modifier...

Title: Re: Get your bets in
Post by Ta`pez HoD on Feb 7th, 2005, 6:16pm

I think it was clearly reflected in the post.

Ta'pez had nothing to prove here. It was a neutral fight.

besides he fooled you - which was the point - how would that be "a great honor"

You are forgetting ta'pez's bonus for being a gracious winner.

Title: Re: Get your bets in
Post by Falco_Tauvits on Feb 7th, 2005, 7:19pm

I recall both of these. Tauvits walked away harbouring no ill-will towards Ta'pez, and I think he's more confused and cautious about the final against Q'ol than condemning in any way. Which probably puts him in the minority, but I digress.

I had been talking stats. Something which wasn't reflected in the post (and no, that's not a whinge, I'd have addressed it in the writing of the post itself or afterwards, rather than sitting on my arse for a year. It was my favourite match of the last two years).

Title: Re: Get your bets in
Post by Falco_Tauvits on Feb 7th, 2005, 7:25pm

It was the first time that Tauvits actually understood the thinking behind the fact that although he didn't win the match, he didn't really lose. It says something when the match in which you're beaten is the one you're most satisfied with (I'm talking IC, there. His matches against G'Trell and Hurak left him feeling pretty empty).

I'm becoming obsessed with brackets. Curious.

and though some say they found empty battles with me.  Foolish are they who fight with out honor and speak such words.  Pitiful that they speak my name at all.
