Title: Valren Arelwynn arrives Post by Valren Arelwynn, XFY CO on Feb 3rd, 2005, 8:43pm It felt strange to be waiting to greet a commanding officer who wasn’t Nadroj Neirbo. That was the main thing that kept going through her mind. This incoming new commanding officer would be very different, and she would have to adapt, but it wasn’t the adapting that was strange. It was the thought – she couldn’t help it – that this man was usurping the previous commanding officer’s place. She’d had a while to think about it as she waited for the new person to make his way here, but now, after what seemed like far too long a time, the ship was here. Had already docked in fact, and the door would be opening in a moment. She was here as the welcome committee, more or less. And finally… FINALLY she could at least get rid of her command. The doors hissed open and she scanned what she saw beyond, hoping to be able to tell at a glance who was the new commanding officer – though unless he was wearing a uniform or a “Hi, I’m the boss” sign, that might be a hair difficult. Through the doors stepped two officers. Both in red. One was an older man, silver-haired, wearing an Admiral's uniform. He was followed by a slightly shorter woman with her black hair pulled back into a wrapped ponytail. Kel came to attention. Toralon: Vice Admiral Arelwynn? Valren looked at her probingly for a moment before he addressed her. Arelwynn: That's right Commander Toralon. Might I present Commander Kajiura who will be taking over as XO per your request. Thank you for coming to meet us here right at the dock. Permission to come aboard? Kel nodded and smiled at the pair of them. She couldn't seem to help herself. This was easily one of the happiest moments she'd had in... well. a while. Toralon: Permission granted. And welcome, both of you. The new executive officer raised a hand and gave her a short wave in greeting as they both stepped out into the hall. Kajiura: *conversationally* Huge place you’ve got here. Kel wasn’t sure quite how to take that, so she just nodded. It was a rather large place. Valren smiled and motioned to one of the crewmen standing in the area. Arelwynn: Excuse me crewman, please show Commander Kajiura to her quarters. Commander Toralon, I'd like to have a quick debrief with you. Perhaps you could show me to your, or my, or whomever's office? As Kajiura departed with another wave and an odd little smile, Kel nodded to Arelwynn. Toralon: *emphatically* Your office. This way, sir. She wasn’t sure if he already knew the way – the plans were certainly available, but they weren’t exactly light reading. Leading the way seemed… proper. He seemed to be happy enough to follow. It was long before be began to make conversation, and it wasn't really the light sort. Arelwynn: Commander.. Maycen... Kel. I don't know what you'd rather... *he paused a moment* Kel it is then. I've read your record, I know that this has been rather thrust upon you. I also get the impression you were close to Admiral Neirbo and I'm sorry that things fell apart the way they did. Kel shook her head as they walked. This wasn't the opening conversation she'd expected. Toralon: We'd all be a lot worse off if they'd turned out any other way, I think. It will just be... an adjustment. I'm sure you understand? Arelwynn: It certainly will be for everyone. And I do understand. *he paused for a long moment* I'd like it to be as little of an adjustment as possible. To that end, I want you to stay on. Kel turned her head toward him, unable to keep one eyebrow from arching curiously. Toralon: Sir? I thought you said Commander Kajiura- Arelwynn: *cutting her off* I did, and she is. I would like you to stay on as my aide. You'll be out of the base CoC so it won't be awkward. Technically you'll just be assisting me on the Task Force side of things but *he looked her right in the eyes* Frankly, I could use your help in maintaining some continuity here. Kel considered that a moment. It was unexpected… but looking at it, she felt she *should* have expected it. It made sense, for command to want someone around who’d been here, not only to help them, but possibly for the rest of the crew as well Toralon: I guess so. If you’re sure sir. I mean, it sounds ideal to me if you think I can do the job. Arelwynn: *laughing* It isn't half the job of XO and, despite your lack of experience, you've done a fine job at that. I mean that. You seem wise beyond your years, or you've paid off the people charged with keeping your service record. Kel shrugged. Toralon: A little out of column A, a little out of column B... Valren laughed again. Arelwynn: I think this will work out nicely. Let me get settled in, and we'll meet for a drink in, say, three hours? That struck her as a little odd, but she'd only ever served with one commanding officer. Anyway, discussing work over drinks sounded better than in a conference room. She smiled and nodded. He smiled a wry smile and she turned and continued to lead on to Ops. Title: Re: Valren Arelwynn arrives Post by Valren Arelwynn, XFY CO on Feb 7th, 2005, 7:59pm ON: Valren arrived in his office to quite a surprise. He had to sign off on some finally security preparations for the Third Annual Bravo Fleet Bat'leth Tournament -- an event that was to begin in 36 hours. This was the first he'd heard of it. So much for having time to adjust. OFF: This post takes place before the arrivals save for K'Hare's, it takes place at approximately the same time, by the time K'Hare gets in touch with Valren, he will have just found out about the tournament. |
