Title: Arrival: IKS Montgomery Scott
Post by K`Hare totlh on Feb 7th, 2005, 1:00am

OFF:

I am sticking some back posts in here, stuff that relates to the tourney.  Suran is the vulcan from last year who attacked K'Hare on the doecks of KDB.

ON:

<Halls of KDB, 10 days before the betleH tourney>

K'Hare was not in good mood.  The report from ta'pez had found its way all over the station and the Klingon could hear the laughter as he walked by random groups.  The first time he saw a discarded printout of the image he was angered but no it was obvious that ta'pez drawing was everywhere.

He knew that he shouldn't let the actions by ta'pez get to him, that the chang's opinion didn't matter.  But K'Hare had an ego and being such a joke did bother him.  ta'pez would pay for this but K'Hare knew that in part it was his own fault.  If he had been honest and not kept the secret, not relied on House Chang to clean up its own mess, this ridicule would not be part of the current situation.

He had ignored the dishonor that was ta'pez because K'Hare's position on this station was the by-product of Chang stealth and dishonor biting them in the back.  He had talked to be'thal but not told her the whole of the truth.  He could have told joH cheng, but having fought side by side with ta'pez, he felt honor demanded he step aside.

Had he honestly expected ta'pez to learn something, to realize the dishonor and rectify it?  No, but K'Hare had hoped it.  But K'Hare's will was not so strong; it could not move ta'pez's heart.  It was clear ta'pez was jealous of K'Hare's station... K'Hare laughed at the unintentional pun.  One slight change in the combat that had made K'Hare this station's commander and ta'pez would be here and K'Hare would be serving him, no doubt still on the Hegh'ta or perhaps, dead from some hopeless mission he'd been sent on.  K'Hare almost wished that things had been different.  Almost.

For the last year K'Hare had ignored ta'pez while ta'pez continued to make useless, annoying jabs at him.  It had been a game they played.  K'Hare was sure adding this image had been intended as part of that, but ta'pez had crossed a line.  That small act was affecting K'Hare's ability to lead the station.  It was eroding the respect he expected and required for this duty.  ta'pez had crossed the line and he would pay.  K'Hare would settle this feud with ta'pez at the tournament.  One way or another, it would end there.  "ONE WAY OR ANOTHER IT WILL END!"

K'Hare ignored the looks he got from his uncontrolled outburst as he walked to the lift to take him to the private area of the station.  Unnoticed, a Bolian sitting at a table in the Four Corners slipped the printout, a picture of K'Hare with romulan ears into the disposal and told his companions..., "Maybe would should get rid of those."

<Training area in the KDB restricted area of KDB>

K'Hare had retrieved suran from his room and the pair had walked to the combat training area.  Without another word, each grabbed a betleH and faced each other.  Again, only silence marked the beginning of the sparring but K'Hare didn't stay silent long.  His mood only helped.  "So, what is the task today?  In case you haven't noticed, it has been more than three weeks since you've won a match."

Suran just smiled.  "It is true enough that I have little left to teach you, but I still have many secrets left to share."

K'Hare switched his style mid swing and came in forcefully striking the betleH of the vulcan hard.  "It has been a year and I tired of this game."

Suran looked over at the damaged weapon on the floor.  "Perhaps a sparring contest is not a good idea today.  You seem particularly emotional."  He looked around the room and his eyes stopped on one of the metal structures used as a combat dummy.  It was designed for a training warrior to hit repeatedly with full force.  "That will do."  Suran walked over and slipped inside the structure and found its center of gravity.  He placed two hands on the structure, moved them to find the center of gravity, and lifted the heavy structure.  With an effort, he moved it about ten feet, then set it down and slipped out.  With that done he looked at K'Hare expectedly.

K'Hare looked back like he was insane.  "What is it you want me to do?"

"Simply move it back."

"You want to test my strength verses yours?  You are vulcan."

"Ah, so you admit, vulcan's are superior."

"Not superior.  You just have a greater natural strength."

"Part of this training has been to increase your strength."

"I am aware.  What will this prove?"

"More than you know.  I simply want to see how strong you have gotten.  I think you can move it."

Annoyed K'Hare squeezed into the center of the object.  It was not as easy for the bulky Klingon.  In the center though, there was enough room to be comfortable.  K'Hare placed his hands in the same location suran had used and pushed.  It was too heavy but before he could slip out suran started taunting him.

"Come on... it isn't that heavy.  You just drink too much."  The taunts continued and K'Hare was annoyed, but then one taunt had an effect.  "I bet the one with the pointed ears could do it... and if you move it, I will give you the answer to all your questions!"

Inside the framework K'Hare got angry.  Even suran had seen the picture.  But how?  One of his guards must have shown him.  Was there no one on the station he could trust.  Angered, determined, and ready to kill, K'Hare put his hands on the structure again and lifted it.  He hardly noticed the pain as he moved it more the a foot past its original location.  He squeezed out but by the time he got to suran the anger was gone, replaced with the realization that he had moved the heavy thing.  He took a deep breath.  "I should kill you but I see what you did.  Still, you made a vow.  Now keep it."

Suran's smirk showed he had been in total control the whole time.  "Of course.  Why say it if you don't want it to be heard.  Your answer is Khoal of House KoliKos."

Not for the first time, K'Hare looked at him like he was crazy. "I know of him.  He is currently serving with Q'olavraH.  But what does he have to do with me?"

"Everything, or nothing.  But he can give you the answer that will unlock your past.  His interest in genetics and his work tracking bloodlines will enlighten you."

"You know more.  You have told me so much, told me of the location of the branding iron, something no one should have known.  Why hold back now?"

"Because you would not believe it coming from me.  This Khoal, he is a scientist, he can prove what you would kill me for saying."

K'Hare laughed.  "Then he can prove a great many things.  I will do this, as I did the last thing, thinking it was folly.  But again, if you have wasted my time, I will kill you.  And if there are questions he cannot answer for me, I will get them from you when I return.  This game ends when I return."

"That is acceptable."  Suran watched K'Hare leave.  His work was done.  The Klingon was as prepared for what was to come as he ever could be.  The two would never see each other again.

<Xavier Fleet Yards Space>

A raptor class starship came out of warp close to the Xavier Fleet Yards.  On board, it's communications officer had already been usurped by one of the two ranking Admirals.  The young officer in the captain's chair didn't seem to mind the change.

At the communications station, K'Hare totlh entered the hailing sequence and spoke.  "Xavier Fleet Yards, this is the IKS Montgomery Scott requesting admittance to the station and immediate contact with Admiral Neirbo."

The way the Klingon said 'requesting' made it clear that while he understood the formal protocol, he didn't consider his request to be denied.  He wasn't asking for permission.

The repsonse quickly came through the Speaker's aboard the Starfleet built ship flying a Klingon flag.

Schurman (NPC): This is Petty Officer Jayna Schurman in Xavier's communications routing branch.  Admiral Neirbo is no longer the commander of this installation and is not aboard.  I can route you through to the Dock Master or Ops.  Please advise.

K'Hare:  Neirbo is gone?  I hope you know to expect 100 or more ships in the next few days.  This is K'Hare totlh, one of the judges for the betleH tournament.  We require a docking solution and I will need to see your commanding officer and whoever is in charge of tournament logistics as soon as we enter the base.

K'Hare looked over at sallon in the captain's chair.  He was not happy with this unexpected change and it showed on his face.

Schurman: Understood.  We are indeed in preparation for the tournament.  I will route you to the Dock Master's office and will arrange for Ops to send personnel to meet your party at the relevant transporter room.

Before K'Hare could respond, the channel was closed.  After a few moments, it re-openned.

Gheuty: This is Chief Warrant Officer Hask Gheuty, Xavier's Dock Master.  If you could take your ship to the coordinates I'll send over to ya, it'd be best for our orbital parking arrangements and to transport your party aboard.

K'Hare growled at the comm unit.  He would have been angrier if the base hadn't reopened the connection.

K'Hare:  Chief, this is the Imperial Klingon Starship Montgomery Scott requesting docking clearance.  I didn't get your last transmission.  Please review your clearance protocols and repeat your last message.

It was clear to anyone listening that something had annoyed the Klingon.

Gheuty: I repeat, this is Hask Gheuty, Dock Master of Xavier Fleet Yards.  I am sending coordinates for your parking orbit.  We'll beam your party over at your convenience.  Do you read?

K'hare almost slammed his fist into the console, but he remembered a fedaration ship wasn't designed to handle the stress.   humans!

K'Hare:  Your tranmission was understood.  We will park this ship in orbit and come over in two shuttles.  Scott out.

He ended the communication and stood up.  -/\-  K'Hare to Ghoti, prepare the shuttles.  K'Hare out.  -/\-

As he exited the bridge he made another call.   -/\-  K'Hare, shipwide:  All those interested in going down to the base meet in the shuttle bay. -/\-

The Klingon Admiral stomped his way to the shuttle bay.

Hask was caught quite off guard by the angry Klingon who had promptly closed the line.  As a Tellarite, he was accustomed to arrogance and sometimes exhuded it himself.  He reopenned the channel.

Gheuty: This is Xavier's DMO calling the IKS Montgomery Scott, do you read?  DMO to Scott, please respond.

<IKS Montgomery Scott Shuttle Bay>

So'l gripped his blade nervously as he waited in the shuttle bay. He was among the first to arrive, having come directly from Engineering.

You can't hide from it anymore, said a nasty little voice in his head. You sought it out this time, but you didn't need to. You can't pretend you were just trying to blend in, do the Klingon thing and blame it on the Academy, like you did last time. This wasn't a requirement, and you volunteered. The truth is...

So'l squashed those thoughts and cleared them from his face as K'Hare stamped into the room.

"You look pissed. What happened?" he asked, parlty out of curiosity, partly to keep K'Hare from studying him too hard and seeing through his act of nonchalance.

K'Hare looked at the student.  He was nervous but he was also determined.  This pleased the teacher.  "The first minor glitch.  It is clear I will spend the first few days here trying to teach some new human how to respect Klingon culture."

Be'thal had remained behind, she had a few reports to finish, nothing official but rather some private investigations that she had to send out some information and orders.

Once most of the crew was gone from the Scott she packed up her stuff and decided to leave. There was not she carried with herself, travelling lightly was always something she preffered. The many journey she had, espcially in Federation had proved a valuable and confirming lesson, there was no true need for anything among people who relied on replicators for all of their needs.  The few things she carried were her spare armor and her meQ'leth blades.

After she entered the Base she decided to get settled in. There were a few errands and visits she had to get done, her 'beloved' brother was soon to arrive and she didnt want miss paying him a visit.

tbc...

the be'thal story line will be continued in the following thread:

Gheuty: Please do not, I repeat do not send shuttlecraft.  We gave you a parking orbit as, due to the number of ships coming in, we can't dock them all.  This problem is even worse for small vessels.  If you are for can't use transporters, I will make arrangements for your ship to dock but there is absolutely no room for shuttlecraft.  Do you read?

I decided not to drag this out much longer.  (:}

ON:

chu:  Acknowledged Xavier.  I will advise our crew.  They will require a docking solution or a shuttle to the base.

(Gheuty):  Allright, I'm transmitting docking clearance now but you will have to move the ship back into orbit within an hour.  I will determine a permanent solution once the congestion stabilizes.

chu:  Thank you Mr. Gheuty.  You're making both our lives easier.  If I can get over there later I will buy you a beer... or at least something that isn't bloodwine. Montgomery Scott out.

chu looked over to Sallon who nodded confirmation then chu ran to the shuttle bay hoping to catch K'Hare before he caused too much trouble.

<IKS Montgomery Scott, airlock>

chu had caught him before they launched the shuttles and Ghoti returned to the bridge to dock  the ship.  K'Hare wasn't happy with the resolution but it would do for now.

He exited through the airlock with Taylor and the others attending the event behind him.  Taylor was not in uniform and looked like just another civilian.

<Xavier Fleet Yards, Docking Port>

An anxious yeoman waited for the crew of this ship to enter the base.  This was not going to be pleasant.  When the Klingon stepped out he realized the problem.  This was one of the Judges, one of the Admirals in charge of the tournament.  They had been expecting him... how had this confusion happened?  He now had an angry Klingon Admiral and an annoyed Betazed Admiral on either side of him.  It was going to be along day.  "Admiral, welcome aboard.  I'd like to personally apologize for the confusion.  We were expecting you but somehow ..."

K'Hare didn't want to take time for pleasantries.  Despite what everyone thought, his sense of urgency wasn't from the insult, it was for the potential problems more of these confusions would cause.  "Apologies are not required.  I need to meet with your commanding officer."

"Yes sir.  He would like to meet with you too.  I will take you and my companion will see your crew to the housing."

K'Hare nodded.  "Good.  But he *indicating the civilian* will need housing in the VIP area."

The yeoman looked confused and unsure what to do.

K'Hare continued.  "I will clear this with your CO.  It will simply prevent more complications."

The yeoman nodded to his companion.  "OK, it will be done.  Follow me and I will take you to Vice Admiral Arelwynn."

roS stood and watched with more then a little amusment the problems that K'Hare was creating for the personnel of this Starbase.

He was so going to enjoy NOT being a Starfleet officer at this competition.

At his last unarmed combat competition he had gotten in so much trouble with his commanding officer on the USS Saturn.

Like it was his fault that some idiot had thought it would be funny to take a fake swing at him right after a bout.

How was he suppost to know the fools father was an Admiral.  It wasn't like he killed the idiot... he had only broken his arm... and jaw... and... ok, maybe he had overdone it... but it sure had felt good pounding that jackass's face considering he had just lost in the finals to that Kazinti.

ON

<<Dan’s Quarters – IKS Montgomery Scott>>

Dan picked up his bag; his uniform was neatly tucked away now as he relaxed in his civilian attire. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d worn this stuff, over a year on his current posting and how much leave had he actually taken? He dredged his mind for the information he wanted, in a whole 12 months he could remember taking 1 afternoon off, one whole afternoon. After 12 months in uniform it sure felt good to be out of it, so good Dan danced around his room a little, he couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt so relaxed.

The door chimed spinning on the spot Dan oriented himself towards the sound, “Enter” he spoke calmly belaying the feeling of disorientation in his head. Jarvis stepped in to the room “Ah Jarvis, come over here” it was obvious that Jarvis didn’t know what to say or do, so he just walked forward quietly “You’ve got today and tomorrow off, I don’t want to see you again for that length of time understand?”

Dan didn’t wait for an answer he just picked up his things and left, if he’d actually put his mind to it he would have realised he was still pretty jacked after the bloodwine he’d consumed the night before. Speaking of bloodwine he could do with a little more he thought to himself.

<<Air Lock – IKS Montgomery Scott>>

Dan nodded to K’Hare as he arrived he meant to explain that he’d find his own accommodation, but the look on the Klingons face was enough to make him reconsider. Perhaps he’d just go find his own accommodation and explain it to the Klingon later.

The airlock door rolled open and a member of XFY’s crew stepped in to view, Dan couldn’t hear the discourse between the yeoman and the Klingon Admiral. At one point K’Hare turned to Taylor and said something to the confused Yeoman, again Taylor wanted to ask what had been said but felt this wasn’t the right time to be doing it.

K’Hare stepped off the ship and headed off to meet with XFY’s new Commanding Officer; Dan had heard rumours about Nierbo loss of command but hadn’t heard anything concrete about the issue. The Yeoman motioned for Dan and the others to follow him; he did for a few meters before quietly veering off intent on doing his own investigating. Finding a turbo-lift he hoped in and headed for the civilian areas of the ship.

<<A Bar>>

Dan walked in to the bar with a smile on his face, some where the could go finally to relax a little. The barkeep lent over the bar and shouted asking Dan what he wanted to drink “Bloodwine” he replied “The real stuff” he added as he slammed his payment on the bar.

Title: Re: Arrival: IKS Montgomery Scott
Post by Ing The Puny on Feb 8th, 2005, 4:52pm

Ing had thought long and hard about the weapons regulations at the host starbase and what to do about them. The part about concealed weapons was an issue - he was certain that the Federation would have different definitions of what constituted 'concealed' than the Klingons did. So he had to make sure that everything he carried was either plainly in the open, or undetectable - which, given that this was a Federation station rather than a Klingon one, was a much more difficult proposition. Federation scans were better than Imperial ones, and they were far more willing to use them.

Ing didn't even consider going unarmed. As a Klingon, he would be expected to be carrying at least a dagger at all times, so it was better to wear one openly. At the other extreme, wearing too many weapons might be taken as a challenge, and was also something to be avoided. He had eventually decided to wear his Daqtagh only, initially at least. But he brought both pairs of his new miniature meqleHs, and the belt for them, along with, of course, his betleH. Wearing the meqleHs - unusual in not only their size, being half the traditional length, but also in their shape - might cause comment, which he wanted to avoid. But he still wanted the option of wearing them later, since he didn't trust Federation security to keep trouble away from him.

When the crew of the Scott disembarked, the diminutive Klingon stood out as unusual for his small size. But, being small, he was generally concealed in the other mass of Klingons disembarking. By the time Ing got to the security checkpoint, the officers there were quite familiar with the Klingon habit of bringing many bladed weapons aboard, and he had relatively little hassle, just the usual reminder to leave 'unnecessary' weapons in his room. Ing wondered what the Federation considered 'unnecessary' weapons to be, but didn't ask.

The small Klingon then set out to find his room so he could stow his gear. The number of security personnel around was truly impressive, and he was surprised that at least one guard had apparently been specifically assigned to follow each and every Klingon as they found their quarters. Was the Federation that suspicious of their Klingon allies? Or perhaps they were just tagging along to make sure that all those weapons were stowed properly.

OOC: errr...VIP area? Shouldn't I be housed with the other tournament members? :/

Edit: Well, it's simpler just editing the post. Keeping track of additional subplots is going to be a hassle here ;) :P

IC:
Verghese had to restain himself from commenting on K'hare's actions throughout the entire trip. It seemed like K'hare was going to make this difficult for the starfleet crew on station, and it pissed him off to no ends.  But still, he held his tounge.

Following the others, he reached his quarters near the tournament deck. His roommate hadn't come in yet, so he still had no idea whom it was going to be. within around a half hour, he had unpacked and everything was ready....

Rather than just sit down however, Verghese finally decided it was time. Grabbing his Betleh and exiting the doors, he walked through the corridor and down to the lift. Entering it, he took the lift all the way down to the tournament deck and the main arena area. The room was very, very large, probably a converted cargo deck of sorts. In total, there were three arenas here, with two sides covered with benches for spectators. A third side had a small table for the judges to sit and watch the competition.

But this wasn't what he was looking for. Instead, it was the wall at the far end of the arena, right in the middle and equidistant from all three. At the moment, the wall was empty. Few people were milling about, but it was more of the base personnel, preparing the arenas for the deluge of people that would be coming in here.

Verghese ignored them, and any stares that came his way. Instead, he slowly walked towards the wall, Betleh in hand. once he reached it, he simply studied it, looking for something that might indicate his name or spot in the brackets. Finally finding it, he swung the Betleh over and hung it up on the wall. Stepping back, he looked at the now not-so-empty wall again. Verghese stared at it for a few seconds, then smiled.

His was the first here, and for a few seconds at least, he would revel in that fact.

Then as quickly as it came, the moment went....and so he left, unsure of exactly where to go. Well, the base was large, and he had heard of a bar here somewhere. May as well go there, if nowhere else.

ROFL

This was my lack of clarity.  Sorry V.  In the group that left the Montgomery Scott there were two apparent civilians.  When K'Hare pointed to one of them and said he needs a VIP room, K'Hare was indicating the other one.

It is up to you if you want to have misheard this and thought he meant you or if you want to edit your post above.  Either way, it was clear to the NPC so it was the other guy that got taken to a big room.

And V, just to remind you, you know the other guy.  He was the one that ran the meeting where K'Hare was informed of your special assignment.

(I hope you go with misunderstanding this and being mad K'Hare did it, and then realizing later that he didn't mean you and being made he overlooked you again.)  (:}
