Title: What do you do with a drunken Klingon?
Post by K`Hare totlh on Feb 11th, 2005, 2:12am

OFF:

This is a place to deal with K'Hare.  Does anyone want to be involved or should it just get resolved and people have to snoop to find out?

This takes place in a security office.  XFY security, K'Hare, Qarah, Ing, K'Grath, Taylor, and maybe Wade or Valren are here.

If no one wants to be in charge (Dan is sick) then K'Hare will just appear in the next time slice, somewhere.

off: Wade would have followerd K'hare and security. I sent you a pm about this and I'll post something a little later.

Valren arrived at the security suite which was serving as the command centre for the Bat'leth Tournaments security operation.  It was the standard security office for that particular commercial area plus some additionaly vacant rooms which they had taken over for the occassion.

The Betazoid was quite surprised to have been summoned down here and more so when he discovered it was because K'Hare totlh, one of the tournament organizers whom he'd met earlier, had been taken into custody.  He was very keen to see what had happened.

OFF:

TAG Wade, K'Hare or Cy (as Barnard)

K'Hare looked around at the assembled crowd.  He knew who he was, and he could tell, QaraH was convinced.

With a double of him running around he had expected to have to prove himself... an insult to a Klingon, but a reality given his position in the fleet.  Even Martok had been replaced by a changeling during the Dominion War.

So he accepted the insult.  He was ready to convince each individual that knew him who he was.  But what he couldn't accept, what unsteadied him, was that medical scan.

Could it be true?  Sadly, he didn't know himself.

ON

Taylor stood in the security room ignoring almost everyone in the room; he was transfixed on the form of K’Hare totlh; or at least on the form of someone who could be K’Hare totlh.

Dan was less sure now that the K’Hare in this room was from the mirror universe, while the way he had dealt with Ta’pez was somewhat out of character it didn’t take a great leap of imagination to see why K’Hare had chosen to end their bickering in such a fashion. The loss of life any showdown would have brought wouldn’t be in the best interest of the Empire nor would it be in the best interest of the Federation. K’Hare was needed in his position as Ta’pez was needed in his.

Despite the lack of time Taylor had spent around Klingons he was slowly learning to read their body language, across the room from him stood a Klingon who looked at odds with himself. K’Hare looked to be as shocked about the medical scans as everyone else was, it would be very hard for a Klingon to fake feelings like that. Part of Taylor felt bad for doubting K’Hare being K’Hare he knew it must be an insult for him to have to go through this, however as a Task Force Commanding Officer Dan had to safe guard the Federation first and other peoples feelings second.

A small smile threatened to break out over his face as he thought back to a conversation with K’Hare where they discussed the Pasty Heads and the Pointy Ears, he doubted K’Hare would have said what he did if he knew what he knew now.

OOC:

The betazeds in the room, and the more perceptive can tell he is angry and confused, but ight now, he is focused on the problem.

ON:

K'Hare looked at QaraH, "I know you and I can tell, you are cautious, but you recognize who I am.  I also remember that the imposter fooled sallon, Ing, and So'l and Hurgh... not for long, but for long enough."

He looked over at Valren.  "You do not know me and so you cannot have any confidence I am who I claim to be.  You will have to rely on others."

"The rest of you know me and all I can do is try to convince you individually that I am K'Hare, the K'Hare."

He look around the room at those who were there and started with Taylor.  "In the end, it is your job to relieve me or not."  Cautiously, slowly, he picked up a PADD on the desk and saw the security officers tense, ready for action.

He entered two words into the PADD and handed it to Taylor so only he could see it.  "If I am not me, then it is too late, I know too much and the damage is done.  But that should be sufficient to tell you that I am the K'Hare you have always known... brief that it has been."

One of the security officers looked confused. "Surely there is some records, medical scan, transporter log, something that can confirm that you are the same individual that has served for the last 6 months, the last year, the last 5 years.  If I was in question, there would be hundreds of scans to compare."

K'Hare looked at the young officer and shook his head.  "Klingons do not use transporters unless they are about to go into battle.  To die beaming down to get a drink in space port is not honorable.  If you die in a transporter failure while beaming into battle, at least you died with your weapon in hand, trying to save time in meeting your enemy.  I have never transported."

K'Grath cleared his throat to get the attention of everyone in the room.  "That is not quite true.  On the meH’Haj, almost three years ago, you were transported out of an exploding shuttle."

K'Hare look back at his old CO and smiled... "How could I have forgotten that?"  Then he looked over at the commander of this base.  "The meH'Haj should be on its way.  It has just been refit at KDB, but record of the transport should still be in its transporter logs."

be'eQaraH was gratified that she and K'Hare had come to the point where he knew what she was thinking, and she could read him well enough to know him.

She waited with everyone else, watching everyone else.

She was glad that none of ta'pez's crew had been foolish enough to follow when K'Hare left.  Had ta'pez or any of them come it could only have escalated things and caused more confusion than there already was.

For her part, QaraH was very confused.  K'Hare's bigotry was known, of late, dealing with the students it had perhaps gotten better, but it was still a part of him.  If it was true, if Romulan blood coursed in his veins it would be the biggest joke fate had ever played on anyone she knew.

To know you were a mongrel from the time you were born and deal with it was one thing.  To find out you were a mongrel into your third decade of life, when all along you had been only Klingon would be harder.

She admitted now that she considered her service to K'Hare as more than a duty, she had come to admire him, she had come to think of him as a friend of sorts, even knowing that he would probably never consider her to be his equal due to her mixed heritage, though he had treated her as if she was Klingon.  Perhaps this would change that, perhaps it would not.

Post by Ing The Puny on Feb 11th, 2005, 4:25pm

Ing hovered quietly in the background. His own scans had already determined that this was, indeed, the correct K'Hare and not an imposter. But he wasn't about to let anyone know that he had done those scans, or how he could verify them.

Ing was certain that he had dropped enough hints to Admiral Taylor and K'Grath to put them on the right track to confirming K'Hare's identity independently. So Ing sat quietly and waited patiently for someone else to scan K'Hare for quantum flux - which he knew was absent. Or to scan his ears to see that they had not been recently altered - which he knew they had not been. Or to start comparing notes on K'Hare's behavior for the past several hours during which he had been continuously observed - which he was certain would have been consistent.

But in particular, Ing wanted someone to start a DNA expression test to see what sort of ears K'Hare's DNA coded for. That was the only test Ing had suggested for which he did not already know the outcome, and he was very curious to find out just what the results would be.

roS had followed along as his teacher had been taken to security... confused by the current events while at the same time wondering at the irony of the entire situation if K'Hare did manage to prove who he was rather then being an imposter.

The entire time he had been around K'Hare it had been known by K'Hare's every action that he was a bigot in the area of "pure" klingon blood.

Now the very beliefs and foundation of his assumed arrogance tward other "mix bloods" must be turning on its head after finding out he was a "mutt".

roS personnally didn't care since K'Hare had been willing to give roS a chance to learn about his own heritage.

Until this person could prove he was the real K'Hare it didn't matter... and was a thing for the future.

Right now all that mattered was proving who this person was... was he K'Hare or the imposter?

If it wasn't K'Hare then most of the people in this room were going to die before they could capture or kill "it".

roS had already faught an imposter once and decided to hang back near Ing... if anyone could spot an imposter it would be him and the faster it was known the better.

Besides... a split second more time in knowing the truth could mean life or death.

roS leaned over and tried to see the screen on Ing's tricorder where he was sitting but when he couldn't read it he decided to just ask Ing quietly

Ing... is that K'Hare?

<tag Ing>

Ing gave roS a small nod, before tapping something into his computer.

He turned it so roS could read (in Klingon), "That is our K'Hare. If these flatheads would run the tests I suggested, they would see that, too."

When roS looked up from reading the message, Ing pressed a button and deleted it. With the two of them in the back of the group against the wall, no one else could have seen it.

Rear Admiral Durkis steped forward and looked K'hare directly in the eyes. There would be those that would disagree with him, but Wade always felt he could read a person by their eyes.  And even if an imposter was made to physically look like someone else, they wouldn't have had the same life experiences. If there was any way to tell the truth about them, it would be in the eyes.

Wade had spent many an hour working with K'hare.  Not as much as K'hare's crew but enough to feel he knew something about the totlh. Most of Wade's interaction with him was via communications links, but he had spent many hours face to face with him.  The demands of the competition called for it. And as he looked at K'hare now, he didn't read anything in K'hare's eyes to make him think he was anyone else.  But he needed a way to prove it to the others.

Durkis: Last year after the competition, the judges had one final meeting together.  It was a private one, only Admiral Neirbo, Khare and myself were present for it.  Two things happened, one of which any imposter could have pieced together if they did their research.  But the other would have only been known by those present. I ask you to confirm for my ears what my eyes have told me.

Taylor looked down at the PADD in front of him; the two words hit him like an avalanche. It had to be K’Hare, it just had to be the consequences of it not being were just too grave to be possible. If it wasn’t really K’Hare that would mean he’d never actually met the real K’Hare.

He looked up directly in to K’Hare’s face “I apologise K’Hare for any dishonour I’ve caused you with my actions, I trust you’ll believe me if I say there was no other way to ensure you are the real K’Hare? Considering the reports you showed me I had to make sure that my fears were unfounded.”

Turning to the other assembled he continued “There are no doubts left here as to whether or not this is K’Hare, the Klingon standing here knows things only the real K’Hare could possibly know.”

"I'm sorry Rear Admiral Durkis, I cut accross you there. I am satisfied that this is K'Hare, I don't know whether you need satisfying still"

K'Hare smiled recalling the memory.  "I recall the meeting.  That was when you called me friend.  Most would say the highlight of that meeting was the ribbon you presented to Neirbo and myself, but I values things differently."

"If you go look in my room, in my duffle, you will find a bottle from Earth.  It is a clear drink made from a 'tuber'."

He saw Wade laugh.  "You laughed when I said that last time too.  You later called it a potato drink.  I brought a bottle because last year, Droj drank more than I would have expected.  I thought we would need more."

OFF:

Oops.. Dan snuck in on me there.  just assume this post happens right before the last one.

K'Hare looked at the CO of XFY.  "I believe I have convinced each of the individuals who knows me well and has a duty to be wary of me that I am me.  Except for you, of course.  You do not know me and have a responsibility to protect your command.  I would not object to having a security officer assigned to watch over me if you feel the need.  I only ask that it not be obvious to everyone that I am not trusted."

He shook his head.  "This situation is confusing and I do not know how I would handle it in your place.  But I have a responsibility to see that this tournament is successful and that means performing my duties here or seeing that someone takes my place."

He then turned and looked at be'eQaraH, Dan, and Wade, each in turn.  "The same is true for each of you.  You must be wary and only time will truly convince you I am not an imposter.  If any of you feels the need to have me monitored, then say so and I will not hold you in judgment for it.  But you should decide as a group so that I don't fill up meeting halls just be entering them with my security escorts from each of you, in tow."

The Betazoid eyed K'Hare for a moment before responding.

"I can sense you are sincere in what you say and these others of considerable credibility are willing to vouch.  Therefore, you are free to go but will be escorted by security," he paused a moment before explaining.  "This would not be the first time a well trained mind had fooled a Betazoid."

OFF:

Your timing is impeccable.

ON:

K'Hare relaxed though some part of his mind noted a slight change in stance by be'eQaraH as if she was preparing to grab him.  While having a security officer watch him would normally annoy him because of the insult of it, he too commanded a base and understood that sometimes insult was second to ...

Betazed!  Did Valren say BETAZED!  The anger welled up in the (mostly) Klingon.  Any other time, any other place, and he'd have killed the petaQ where he stood for going near his thoughts.  He just stared down the Vice Admiral and concentrated on one sentence and let the anger burn.  ~STAY OUT OF MY HEAD OR DIE.~

Title: Re: What do you do with a drunken Klingon?

Valren was startled by the rage and then the thoughts that followed; he'd been so off balance he wasn't sure whether K'Hare had thought or said that.  He stepped back as a two security officers rushed in front of him in reaction to the anger in K'Hare's eyes and the fear in Valren's.

Arelwynn: Excuse me, totlh?

You may end up locked up yet ;)

K'Hare just stared looking extremely angry and feeling it more.  This was the one way he knew to stop a mind reader from messing around in your head.  ~* STAY OUT OF MY HEAD *~

Though he was angry his voice sounded more controlled than anything else.  "It is my understanding that federation ethics are that mind readers are not allowed to enter the head of another without permission.  Any act otherwise is akin to r... well, not a pleasant term.  If that is what is required, I will leave immediately.  If I must sit in a cell and rot or accept such an intrusion... take me to my cell."

be'eQaraH whispered to Taylor, "That's K'Hare.  A double would fear the intrusion, he is angered by it."

OFF:

Again, the stuff in the ~**~ is thought but not using telepathy and I am speaking for be'eQaraH because she would say that and isn't online today.

"It is not customary to read one's specific thoughts, however it is impossible to block the flow of empathy and emotions.  I can perceive your anger and I could perceive your sincerety previously."

It was clear that Valren was himself angry and offended.

"I apologize for trying to defend you as these others are doing, go about your business totlh."

Valren turned and left the security complex, none too pleased.

K'Hare watched the betazoid leave and tried to calm himself.  He had made an enemy... a political one.  This was not over and this new foe fought on a battlefield where K'Hare admitted he had a disadvantage.

He sighed and turned to the rest of the room.  He was suddenly very tired.  "Anything else."
