OFF: I'm removing my earlier post to start the fight, because T'Linda has contacted me and put enough work into a good opening post... which I'll follow this one up with.

ON: Bat'leth Tournament

The arena was big and loud. As Lieutenant T'Linda adjusted her battle uniform, she held her Bat'leth in the antechamber waiting to be introduced. Closing her eyes, the 1/2 Vulcan drifted into a mild meditation. Calmness, serene, disciplined. Exicuting every move she had been taught by her elder K'tchen, remembering honor is as important as skill. Or as her Mother would say, "it's not if you win or loose, it's how you play the game."

T'Linda's eyes opened as she heard from the loud speakers...USS Peacemaker, Lieutenant T'Linda.......the roar of the crowd erupted as she entered to see throngs of beings, she spotted her commanding officer, Vice Admiral Pike in the gallery of dignitaries giving her a "thumbs up" he called it. An old Earth hand signal for encouragement and approval.

"Fleet Admiral Tomas Wolfe" The crowd erupted once again as her opponent entered the battle arena.

As the crowd quieted, the ranking Klingon Official on the floor spoke Klingon, with the universal translators working overtime in the auditorium.

KO: Ready......Success to the strong!......BEGIN!

As T'Linda took her stance to honor her opponent as she had been taught all those many years ago, Wolfe advanced and executed a near flawless attack, catching T'Linda's left forearm as she evaded the attack.

Almost as flawless was her counter attack, but was anticipated by Wolfe, blocking the Bat'leth. The battle continued, with both participants implementing text moves, with Wolfe the obvious superior, countering almost every advance from the Lieutenant, almost as if a targ playing with it's prey, just waiting, prolonging the execution of it's prey.

The half Klingon toyed with his opponent who’s skills were good, and obviously taught by an experienced teacher, began to grow tired of the demonstration with a swift K'mpec move, reversing his Bat'leth, catching the back of T'Linda's left knee, forcing all her weight on the unsuspecting limb, forcing her to drop to the deck, the delivering the death blow to her sternum.

The crowd applauded and cheered, but the large Klingon contingent, were the quietest of all from this matches battle.

On:

Before leaving the arena, Tomas helped T'Linda back to her feet and congratulated her on a good match.

As Tomas was leaving, he noticed some of the Klingons turning away from him, speaking amonst themselves.

The main reason Tomas was here was to earn their respect. It was obvious to Wolfe though that it was going to be a bit more harder then he thought. Tomas thought to himself that he should of known better, winning the first two rounds wouldn't do anything with them at first anyway... they still most of looked at him as an outsider, or mixed blood.

Tomas knew then, that for him to earn their respect, he was going to have to win the whole thing.

<Back of the arena>

Unknown to Wolfe, or anyone else for that matter, an older Klingon stood and watched Tomas as he left. This particualr Klingon was probably in his 70's or so, grey hair mixed into his dark brown hair. He slowly shook his head back and forth in disapproval of what he had witnessed just moments earlier. It was obvious to him that Tomas didn't have the first understanding of honor or tradition.

A part of that old Klingon felt a pang of guilt over that. He silenced his inner demons as he moved off back into the crowd.

Off:
Tag: Anyone. But please do me a favor... no Klingons have a serious talk with me about fighting with/without honor... that's for a later plot :-)

The match was over. accepting the assistance getting up, T'Linda also accepted, the compliment of the "good match" from her opponetnt. : Thank you. You fought well too Sir. I was clearly out match, and have much work to do, if I am to return next year."

Wolfe: That's the spirit, practice makes perfect they say.

T'Linda: Indeed. (Then walked off to retire to the changing areas)

Wolfe watched her as she left, noticing a fairly large group of 20 or so great the Lieutenant, applauding her, and congratulating her. No doubt part of the crew she serves with. A good traight to see crew members supporting one another. He then turn to walk in the other direction, noticing the Klingon contingent.

OFF:

That's about all I had. Thanks for the match.

Lieutenant T'Linda
Admirals Yeoman

K'Hare had been shocked by the face he'd seen in the crowd but he hadn't been sure so as the match ended, he moved from his place in the stands to the path most would take to exit.  Then he waited, standing in the path.

The elder Klingon walked around the totlh as everyone else had until K'Hare took a step to the side to move directly into his path.  The old Klingon looked up with anger, in a mood to fight, and then saw who it was.  He'd hoped to avoid this but his smile belied his true feelings.  "Qa'Ho'tIn."

K'Hare smiled.  "It has been a long time."  The younger Klingon was both surprised and angered to see the older one here.  Not angry to see him, only angry that he was here and had not bothered to contact him.

The elder spoke.  "You have come so far from that time.  This tournament, the way you have involved the federation and given them a taste of the Empire is good work.  And I see you have prospered and become quite prominent."

K'Hare frowned.  "Not so prominent that you found it easy to find me.  It had been so long, I assumed you were dead.  I would have screamed for you... if I knew your name."

The Klingon smiled.  "Yes, I know you tried to find me.  And I also know what else you found and so I know you understand why I must be so secretive."

K'Hare turned and the pair started to walk out the arena area.  "Yes, I figured that out much.  But I know it would be easy enough for you to visit me without much risk."

The elder simply said, "You didn't need me.  You had K'Grath."

"It makes me wonder why you are here now."  K'Hare said.

The old one laughed.  "I can honestly say I am simply here to see a few of the matches.  More than that... " he shrugged.

K'Hare frowned thinking back to the match.  "This was not the best one to see.  Wolfe, the half Klingon used to be my commanding officer.  So far, his choice of ... tactics, has disappointed me."

The old man nodded.  "Yes, he is not a good representative of what it means to be Klingon.  I suppose that was his choice."

K'Hare heard something in the words.  It told him something.  "He is one of my projects.  I try to steer him correctly.  As his XO, it was part of my duty.  I think he begins to understand but there is still much to teach him."

The old man smiled.  "I do hope you are successful.  Sometimes what we teach pays us back in unexpected way."

K'Hare nodded understanding... and then realized the subtext.  This old Klingon arrived knowing about Wolfe!  That is why he was watching this fight.  K'Hare realized that he had not only been watching his career, the meH'Haj, Hegh'ta, and KDB, but he was watching those around him.

It made K'Hare wonder how much of his life was from the actions of this Klingon and of K'Grath.  And he wondered if he would be like them when he was older.  Would he manipulate the lives of his students to give them the chances to excel? K'Hare had no doubt he had earned every victory, but it was suddenly clear that the battles were planned and not as random as they seemed.
