Title: Talora VS Q'olavraH
Post by Q`olavraH on Feb 22nd, 2005, 8:40pm

OFF:  The first part of this before the stars is a JP that the players were working on.  Since I haven't heard from Talora's player in a couple days I'm posting what we have and then finishing off with Q'ol's thoughts of the thing or something. :)  I figured since the next match has been mailed it was best to wrap this one.

Talora, I am leaving this wide open so you'll be able to do your reactions to the fight as well.

ON:

Q'olavraH entered the arena, many things in her mind and heart after her talk with her friend.

She wore a black sleeveless tunic, her black breeches, and combat boots.  She wore no armor.  She wore no rank, no baldric, no adornment of any kind.  She was unsure why she had begun the tournament this way, but it felt right to her, and so she would continue to
dress this way throughout.

She looked in the crowd and saw both K'Hare and the girl child, sitting together, watching her as she moved to the wall of betleHmey.

She pulled K'Hare's betleH off of the wall and had to smile to herself as part of thier conversation last night returned to her.

She had practiced with it each day and so now the heavier weight of it, and the handling of it was second nature.  She moved to a practice ring and warmed up her body, using fluid motions that looked more like a dance than a killing drill.

Eventually she moved to the ring and waited.

Talora entered the arena a few minutes later.  Wearing her standard Uniform, it always felt better fighting in the uniform of the Star Empire, and bat'leth in hand, she entered the ring.  In her other hand was her Honor Blade.  She hoped she could arrive early to practise with it; the sleek, small dagger exercised the wrist, hand, and forearm.  However, it appeared she would not have the chance.

Talora placed the bat'leth on the ground and returned the Honor Blade to its hidden sheath.  She saw the tall, well-built Klingon woman in front of her.  Talora did a few stretches, though she had done much exercising in her quarters before leaving.  She approached her opponent.

Talora: Jolan Tru.  I'm Centurion Talora *extends hand*

Q'olavraH: *grasping the wrist of the Romulan female in a traditional Klingon greeting*  I am Q'olavraH, daughter of poq.

Talora: So, what shall it be today?  Knock-out? First Blood?  It's your choice, it doesn't matter to me.

Q'olavraH: First blood is to easily drawn and the fight might end before we truely know who is the most skilled.  As this is a tournament I prefer to fight to disarm.

Q'olavraH released the female's arm and took a step back, anticipating that since this was a Romulan she would fight well, but not with much honor, but then, she might be wrong... after all, the best friend she had ever had was part Romulan and he had more than enough honor for ten tlhInganpu'.

*******************************

Q'olavraH was surprised as they began.  The Romulan was skilled, but she was no where near as skilled as Q'olavraH.

Q'olavraH easily adjusted, bringing her own skill level down to that of the other female.  She did not wish to take advantage, and she hoped that the Romulan be' would enjoy the fight.

Talora clearly was looking for any opening, but Q'olavraH's execution and her skill with the blade left no opening.  For Q'olavraH this was an exercise.

They moved around the ring.  Talora's attacks all taking known patterns.  Q'olavraH easily blocked and parried.  When Q'ol was on the attack she was impressed with the Romulan's speed and strength.

Q'olavraH knew that she would win.  The Romulan faltered and Q'olavraH quickly took advantage, hooking the other's blade and with a downward stroke she yanked it from the other's hands and left it sticking by a point out of the floor.

Q'olavraH inclined her head. "You have the beginings of great skill with the honor blade.  I look forward to facing you again in the future."

Q'olavraH pounded her fist to her chest in a Klingon salute and moved to the wall to hang K'Hare's betleH in the next rack that she had earned.

She then moved to where K'Hare and wovqut stood.  She smiled when she heard the girl chattering excitedly to K'Hare and asking him so many questions that he did not have time to even begin to form an answer before the next question was fired at him.

<During the battle>

Talora was impressed.  Of all the Warriors she'd faced in battle, both Bat'leth and otherwise, this Q'olavraH was impressive.  While confident she had a chance, Talora recognized that with each passing second, her chance of winning decreased.

Talora thought of something to try and turn the tide in her favour.

Talora: I bet you're wondering how a small, young Romulan got a hold of a bat'leth of thsi quality.  I think I'll tell you.

She made a quick roll to avoid the incoming bat'leth strike.

Talora: I had an uncle who was a command officer in the Star Navy.  Back in the 2340s he was Sub-Commander and first officer on a R'Tan-class Warbird, the D'Yar.

Talora tried to make another futile strike against her opponent.

Talora: He was on a landing party, and saw the bodies of a few hundred Klingons thrown about the base.  One was clutching a Bat'leth, in almost perfect condition.  My uncle took it, and when I was a teenager gave it to me.  *half-smiles* The planet was Khitomer.  Ever though we likely had false INTEL, my uncle still prides himself on the attack on Khitomer.  It went so incredibly flawlessly that he just had to get a souvenir.

Unfortunately, this did not have the desired effect on Q'olavraH.  She had to have taken that mental blow, but not even a Betazoid could have detected a change in her mood because of it.  Talora, hoping that the mental image created by her mind-play, would make her angry and clumsy.  This was not so.  A few moments later, Talora was disarmed.

Talora: You fight well, Q'olavraH.  Jolan Tru.

Q'olavraH: You have the beginings of great skill with the honor blade.  I look forward to facing you again in the future.

Her opponent saluted her and turned to find her friends, as Talora claimed her bat'leth and returned to her quarters for a quick shower and food.

The story the romuluSngan told did in fact make anger twinge within Q'olavraH, though she would not show it.

Obviously the be' wanted an enraged Klingon, thinking it would cause Q'olavraH to cease thinking and become impetuous.  Such was not the case with Klingons, as many believed.

Anger could be channelled, and if it was channelled improperly in these circumstances, a killing rage could occur, and so Q'olavraH let the words of the romuluSngan pass over her, as blood would spill so easily and silently down a well honed, well oiled blade.

Khitomer was a fact.  Khitomer was also something that would shame any Klingon if they had been the overwhelming force that had gone in and so ruthlessly crushed a weaker opponent.

A fight where you were outnumbered and overmatched was a glorious challenge, a fair fight was acceptable as your opponent could prove to be wiley and sly, an unfair fight against an enemy that was much weaker was nothing but a dishonor.  Winning was not everything, not to a Klingon, no matter what other's thought.

Q'olavraH knew that the Klingons at Khitomer had fought to the end.  Death in combat against a force they could not hope to beat.

She had brought her level down to match that of the Romulan, but now it was time to end it, and so she did.
