Title: The Legion
Post by K`Hare totlh on Feb 23rd, 2005, 5:31am

K'Hare went to the bar right as the mood of the station turned, that time right after when the more serious individuals go to their quarters for a good nights sleep.

This night was his vacation, the respite he had planned.  He'd already choosen the best bar stool and he was determined to get it.  This early, that wasn't a problem.  Stage 1, complete.

The next step of his plan was to get in the mood.  He ordered a half dozen bloodwines and drank two down.  A good start.  Now he had enough to keep talking without going dry.  Stage 2 complete.

Finally, he needed a foe.  K'Hare searched the bar.  No one worthy, but they would be here.  Tauvits, ta'pez, ... it didn't matter.  Someone would show up and he was ready.

Verghese entered the bar, looking to both sides. It had been a long day - even longer without even a drop of bloodwine all day long. Although he was feeling mostly allright, he still didn't want to have much alcohol just yet.

Besides, the feeling of having a clear mind was refreshing for once, and the lack of a headache tomorrow would be welcome for once.

Looking around the bar, he spotted K'hare sitting on one of the bar stools. Judging from his expression however, Verghese re-considered disturbing him. Besides, Verghese was here for dinner and a bit of relaxation. Work-related activities were far from his mind right now.

Rather than go sit right next to K'hare, Verghese took one of the seats nearby and ordered some food. Soon, either Tapez or the others would be here, and it was going to be some show, at the least.

ON:

Tauvits had, tonight, decided on finding himself suitable food before settling down to drink. As his personal agreement was, he couldn't just march around acting like this was a holiday when he had matters to attend to. So he'd eaten in his quarters, intently studying papers regarding Adrian Forrest, and assembling the plan that had begun to form in his head that afternoon. With a little luck, success would mean minimal chaos, and disruption was the last thing he wanted to cause.

So he allowed himself a break, walking into the bar and ordering himself a whole bottle of whiskey and a few glasses, intending, as with the other night, to share the drink as much as consuming it himself, talking to anyone who'd bother giving him the time of day.

Therefore he hadn't really expected to see K'Hare at a table with an army of tankards of bloodwine about him, and the air of someone intending to work their way through at least another few regiments before the night was done. It did, however, prompt him to consider the other plan he had to deal with, for although his intent was present, actually carrying through with it would be a different sort of challenge.

So he picked up the bottle of whiskey, and just the one glass, and meandered over to where K'Hare sat, approaching from the front so as to make his arrival obviously visible.

"Mind if I join you, mate? Only I find it hard to believe we've had a couple of days here and only a brief chat yesterday. No debates about human mating habits or Klingon honour or anything, and you know it's not a tournament without any of them." Tauvits grinned, moving to sit down without even waiting for a response. "And besides, I'd been hoping to talk to you for the last couple of days anyway. Got a few concerns I think you might be able to help me with."

"Of course, of course."  K'Hare's stance stayed open and boisterous, but as soon as he heard the words, his volume dropped quickly.  "A little early to have a private conversation in public.  How serious are these concerns?"

Gah, I confused myself. Tauvits was going to get a table then go bug K'Hare, then I realised he'd need a drink, so he went to the bar, and then magically K'Hare had moved to a table in my head. Stupid head.

ON:

Tauvits poured himself a generous glass of whiskey, and sipped it idly. "It's serious, from my perspective, but nothing that needs to be kept hush-hush. Just a bit of family mess that you might be able to help me with."

He waved a hand dismissively, not quite willing to dive into the discussion so bluntly. If nothing else, it would be rude to just march up to K'Hare after a year and demand a rather large favour. He owed him at least a few minutes of banter before getting down to business. "Still, it is not so urgent that we must disappear to a dark corner immediately without catching up. How's your station? Still in one piece? I was talking to one of your lads the other day, S'ol - the lad's in a bit of a state over losing his match, too, might need some perking up over that - and he seemed to speak highly of the little 'study-group' you're running over there. It sounds... most interesting." He gave an innocently curious smile which he was sure wouldn't be taken at face value.

James had an odd smile about him as he entered the bar, feeling somewhat villified. He had learned quite a bit and had found an opportunity to meditate over what he had learned about his upcoming opponent before heading back to the bar.

James looked around. There wern't too many people and the only thing of note James noticed so far was the Andorian and K'hare sitting at the bar, a dozen tankards of what he assumed to be bloodwine and a bottle of whiskey between them. James sat a few stools down from them and got the bartender's attention.

"What can I get'cha?" the man inquired as he wiped a glass.

James thought about it for a second. "Can I get a cup of hot green tea?" The bartender looked at him a little oddly. "Trying to cut back on the booze, keep a clear mind for the tournament you know?"

He didn't care if it had worked or not, he wanted a cup of tea. The bartender was happy to oblige and James sipped at his tea and made no effort to hide the fact that he was somewhat interested in what the Klingon and Andorian had to say.

K'Hare nodded.  "Both So'l and roS were upset by their performance but how many other cadets are even here?  I will have to remind them that the experience and getting through it will make them stronger."

He took a long drink from his bloodwine and then, without asking, grabbed the bottle and put an inch into a glass and 'sipped' about half.  Before commenting he frowned at it.  "This is better than the tuber based drink I have had.  It has more flavors.  It is grain based and aged, yes?"  K'Hare finished the glass and considered the drink.  "Surprisingly subtle mixture of flavors.  The drink was aged in some sort of wooden barrel.  I am surprised the human palette developed such a thing."

He picked up a bloodwine.  "The academy is going surprisingly well.  My executive officer seems to have a knack for teaching, or perhaps it is torture, that she never realized."

ON: XFY Corridors

It had been a very relaxing time for the Klingon female.  She had renewed a couple of friendships with warriors that she had not seen in all the years she was 'gone'.  She had eaten and drank some of the best food, bloodwine and wornagh in recent memory.  She had gotten to finally visit an armorer and had a set made and fitted.  She was finally back in Klingon armor.  No cleavage hole, long fur sleeves, all black... it felt perfect.  Her new spiked boots fit perfectly, she had gotten a weapons belt and her Daqtagh, the only weapon she had managed to keep, along with her life, was at her side.

She felt like a warrior again.  Not that she held any ill will toward the Empire for her last assignment, it was true that she had been the only Klingon who could have done it.  It was not often that one saw a .. what had that Starfleet Admiral called her as a joke...?  Ah yes.. a pygmy Klingon.

She had come to term with the fact that she was height challenged, there was no avoiding the fact that without her boots on she stood a mere 5 feet and 3 inches, the boots added a couple of inches, but they did not help much.  She could even laugh about her challenge now, and when others of her species poked fun at her she would turn it back on them either by pointing out their physical flaws in a more humorous way, or by besting them in some contest that sounded easy to them, until they tried to do it in their huge bodies.

And so she approached what she had heard was the best bar on the station, even though she had been to busy visiting Klingon ships and catching up with her friends, to have visited it before tonight.

She had been a HoD, but now she was rankless.  A state she had no problem with.  She had a house, but all of them but her were gone, killed in one battle or another.

The house had been small and had, had no power, and so she claimed only to be the daughter of Itlh'Sa, a father who once it was known that she would be a 'stunted runt' would have nothing more to do with her, not matter how well she proved herself.  It was an old wound that had scarred over years ago.  It did not pain her anymore.

She entered the bar and glanced around.  Her eyes lit on the Klingon with several mugs in front of him, K'Hare, the one with Romulan blood, he was talking to a blue person, she could not quite work out exactly what sort of blue person he was, but that was fine.

She moved to the bar and ordered a bottle of wornagh which was quickly handed over.  She moved toward a table against a wall but with a commanding view of the room.  She sat with her back to the wall and smacked the bottle top on the table, breaking it off.

She sniffed the contents and then took a hearty swig from the jagged edge, the alcohol stinging in the small cuts the top made to her lips as she drank.  wornagh was always a little better when it was tempered by a bit of the drinker's own blood.

She leaned back and kicked her booted feet up on an empty chair and commenced watching things happen.

"Teaching is torture. Take it from a former Academy Instructor." Tauvits grinned, and sipped on his whiskey happily. "And yeah, it's a good drink. This isn't even one of the finest I've tasted - I've got plenty in my cellar back in Northumberland, you should really drop by if you ever come to Earth. Doesn't matter if I'm there or not, bug my sister or cousin if they're around and tell them I said you could have keys to the cellar. Some of the finest Scottish malts down there. Nicked from across the border for over a thousand years." The last part was more of an amused chuckle to himself, and he shook his head.

"But yes, I'd talk to your lads. It doesn't do them any good to mope. At the end of the day, it's just a tournament, not life or death. And it's good to hear the Academy's going well. I'd have figured most of your lads would have been ripped to shreds, in one way or another, by Klingon society. It's just as well they've got you looking after them." Tauvits' subtlety dropped a notch or two, and he eyed K'Hare cautiously as he poured himself another glass of whiskey.

"I haven't been stuck with them for several months like I have last year. Absence makes the heart grow fonder." Tauvits smirked a little. "No, my cousin Michael is a fool, craving a worthless title so he may pretend that he has achieved something in his life. Argument is inevitable when the two of us meet. His son, Will, fortunately takes more after my father than my uncle, his grandfather. He's one of the few of that side of my family I can stand."

He leaned back in his chair, swirling his whiskey about in the tumbler idly, his voice and expression growing distant. "My sister, Lara... or rather, my half-sister, I've always been close to. And then there's Clare. My daughter. Who I never seem to have managed to factor into my life enough. She's only been affected by the bad side of being my daughter, rather than the good side I'd love to provide." He sighed faintly, glancing at an invisible spot over to the side that he wasn't actually seeing, and if he had been thinking more clearly he would have been annoyed at himself at how easily K'Hare had pressed him to show his hand, intentionally or otherwise.

K'Hare took a drink and replied.  "I understand the conflict between loyalty to your relatives while you dislike them.. the concept at least.  In my adult life I have had no relatives in the human sense of the word." He took another drink thinking about the child who in some sense made that a lie.

"You know there is an old Klingon tradition, one that most Houses no longer follow, that leadership falls to a nephew.  This was during a more sexist time of course, but it was the son of one of your siblings, preferably a sister, that followed you, not one of your own.  Interesting that your cousin is like your father yet you do not like your uncle."

K'Hare took another drink and then turned to Tauvits.  "You mentioned your daughter last year and I told you then to make her your priority.  Here it is, a year later, and again you lament that you have not done your best with her.  Tauvits, the past is gone but you are now responsible for each action from today on.  We should not have this conversation again next year.  You must do what is right for her... and I don't need to tell you that.  You already know it."

James took another sip of his hot tea. The two were talking about some sort of family issue with Tauvits and his cousin, something that was always an issue. Some family member messed things up, and what James wouldn't give to have someone in his family to just mess things up, if not be proud of him. He looked down at his tea and took another sip. He beckoned the barkeep over.

"What can I getcha' now?" the bartender inquired, eyeing the now empty glass of tea.

"Another tea for me," James said, sliding his cup across the bar, "and a bourbon for those two over there," gesturing to K'Hare and Tauvits.

James smiled. "If you can't meditate...inebriate," he muttered, taking a sip of his new cup of tea and staring into the cup, considering.

Although Verghese wasn't directly looking at K'hare and Tauvits, he was still close enough to make out most of their conversation. His own gaze was on the food in front of him, but his attention never wavered from the two.

Out of the corner of his eye however, he did notice the doctor come in and take a table nearby. He ordered a drink and then ordered a few more for the other two.

Verghese simply glanced over to the doctor, giving a slight nod before continuing to observe the conversation.

"I have been with my daughter in the past year, more than in perhaps the last eight years, since I lived on Earth. It's been... an improvement. But not quite enough." Tauvits sighed, scrubbing his face with his hands, and sipped on more whiskey. His cool, calm demeanour had rapidly begun to fall apart with this topic of conversation. "But I can't just give up all I'm doing now and go back to Earth to spend more time with her. I'm in the middle of something too important for that. And I can't bring her along. It's... it's too dangerous."

Tauvits poured himself yet more whiskey. "I have angered many, many people. In Starfleet, without, people who are friends of my friends, and so forth. Many of them would like to see my head on a pike. However, they cannot always catch me. I have my own ship these days, and it is not so simple as asking Starfleet where I will be next to lie in wait for me." Bitterness crept into his voice as he considered how easily Forrest had sold him out last time. "Even if they can catch me, I am not defenceless. They all know this. So they have different ways of getting at me. Primarily, family."

He downed this next glass of whiskey without celebration. "My sister can fend for herself. She's JAG, she spends her time in places with more security than anywhere else in the galaxy. And she'd rain down living hell on anyone who tried to get at her anyway. My dislike for my cousin is well-documented, nobody considers him to be a point of leverage. And that leaves... my daughter. Who I would like to have some semblance of a normal life, and so I don't tell her to go underground surrounded by a hundred security guards. Yet every day she lives her 'normal' life on Earth, she is further at risk..."

He reached for the whiskey bottle, reaching for yet more alcohol, his plans of remaining in perfect control and just enjoying a few drinks rapidly dissipating as he faced this fear he'd shoved aside for a day. "I cannot protect her myself. Not at the expense of something even greater. And... and so I am here to ask you, my friend, for a favour."

Any of the light, joking atmosphere about him was gone, as was any of the furtive, curious secrecy of before. Now his expression was simply earnest, sincere, and even a little desperate as he looked K'Hare in the eye.

Title: Re: The Legion
Post by K`Hare totlh on Feb 24th, 2005, 11:01am

K'Hare was torn between the desperation in his eyes and the implication of his words.  But in the Klingon way, he responded with his emotions.  He slammed his tankard down on the bar and spoke quietly (making it hard for anyone to hear) but forcefully.

"There is nothing more important than family but all must make our choices.  I am compelled to grant you whatever favors you need but do not ask me to dishonor myself and think hard on the implications of getting a Klingon involved in your family affairs.  The responsibility that creates goes both ways."

Title: Re: The Legion
Post by Falco_Tauvits on Feb 24th, 2005, 6:25pm

"I'm not asking you to dishonour yourself," Tauvits said, levelling out somewhat at this point. "Hopefully, to not even come close. I'm not in trouble yet with Starfleet, but I wouldn't be hugely surprised if I did end up that way within the next month." Stealing a shuttle, after all, might annoy them, on the surface. "And that's going to have consequences. Not just for me, but those around me. And she's the most important of those, the one who I can't expect to fend for herself."

A little more in control, Tauvits poured himself some more whiskey and began to swirl the liquid about in his glass idly, his expression thoughtful. "I'd like you to look out for her. Bring her on to Klach D'kel Brakt, if possible, induct her into your school if necessary. Because there's going to be Starfleet maybe looking for her, and people... on the other side... perhaps trying to get at me through her. I want her somewhere I won't be, and somewhere she'll be safe." His eyes met K'Hare's, looking for comprehension... and agreement.

Ing strode into the bar. Normally he avoided such crowded places, but tonight, he had something to do. Looking around, he spotted K'Hare talking to the half-Andorian former Admiral at the bar and headed over.

"Bartender!," Ing called, "qagh, and make sure they're lively! And a tankard of bloodwine, the real stuff, not replicated!" The bartender waved in acknowledgement, and Ing turned to lean his back against the bar, watching K'Hare and Tauvits. They seemed to be discussing the blue man's family, which suited Ing's purposes fine. He settled in to wait, scanning the crowd in the bar to see if Q'olavraH was there, and, if so, whether she had brought the girl.

After Valren had left Sajida she asked the bartender yet again for another refill on her sunset.

As he prepared it she twirled around to look at the bar in its entirety and noticed a rather large Klingon sitting in the middle of the Legion at a table all to himself with one mug full of bloodwine and several empties. Feeling rather curious she got her drink and a bloodwine from the bartender and walked over to the Klingon, clearing her throat and speaking. "You seem lost in thought or rather the bottom of that mug there" Sajida said to the Klingon. "You may not have noticed you were about to run dry."

K'Hare looked up at the gold shirted mongrel and noted the odd pair of drinks she was carrying.  She was right, he had just one tankard left and she had brought a spare so he pointed to an empty chair, an invitation for her to sit down.  "Your uniform... you are security?"

"No no, Engineering actually, security was never my forte" Sajida said while sitting down on a chair to the opposing end of the table.

K'Hare sat up with interest.  Perhaps she would not be yet another part-Klingon using her natural strength advantage to gain position in the human world.  "Engineering... you don't meet many Klingons who study that.  Tell me, what sort of ship are you in charge of?"

Sajida smiled while staring at the glass of Samarian Sunset and its swirling colors as the mention of him thinking she was in charge of Excalibur's Engineering department was comical, then again he would not know if she was in charge or not.

"I only wish I was the Chief" Sajida responded with a chuckle.  "I am Sajida Kajada, Assistant Chief Engineering Officer on the USS Excalibur possibly you have heard of her?" she asks him.

K'Hare raised an eyebrow, "'Only the assistant'?  So you are not proud of your position?"

"On the contrary I am very proud of where I am!" she answered while taking a drink of her beverage. "It may have taken a while and getting there was quite a journey"

K'Hare laughed.  "You are far too serious. When you talk of your ship say what you mean.  Modesty is a human failing."  He finished one tankard and picked up the next.  "Yes, I have heard of the ship... Marten's ship, right?"

"It was his until he was kidnapped by an old arch enemy of his. A renegade Admiral who had some kind of personal conflict with him. The Executive Officer is now in command of the Excalibur now" she replied with a rather distasteful look on her face.

"Well, it seems I haven't kept up with your task force.  Martens kidnapped?  I am surprised I haven't been briefed.  But perhaps the federation considers it an internal matter.  But onto more important issues," he said with a grin.  "Why aren't you the Chief Engineer?  Aren't you good enough?"

"Of course I am good enough!!" Sajida said in a somewhat loud tone. "Even my Chief knows I am more than qualified to step into his shoes but I'd never forcefully take the position unless he left, he's too good a friend to do that to anyways."

He smiled... that was more like a Klingon response.

Taking yet another drink from her glass she smiled at the Klingon and asked him a question "Well then what is your name my friend? I remember you from the judges panel last year and when you stood on that keg of bloodwine to grab everyone's attention" she said with a chuckle "It certainly got mine!"

He looked her over.  She was toying with him.  That she didn't know his name was unlikely.  "Well, apparently not enough to remember my name."  He took a quick drink. "I am K'Hare totlh, commanding officer of Klach D'kel Brakt... perhaps you've heard of it."  He gave her a false questioning look.  Of course she'd heard of it, she had attended the last tournament there.  He continued.  "And while there is no doubt I am the best Klingon Engineer in the fourth fleet, I will assert I am also the best Engineer period."  He smile was mocking, but it was also filled with humor.  It was clear he was just having fun with her.

"Hmph!" she grunted to him while downing more of the drink in her hand "And what makes you so special?  Did you get recognized for a minor shuttle refit that somehow made Starfleet headline news??" she said laughing a little.

He joined he laughter.  "A shuttle refit you say?  So you aren't the Chief Engineer of the Excalibur, but still you are in charge of its refits?  My my... perhaps I did make a mistake in recognizing your importance."  He continued smoothly without giving her time to consider what he said.  "As to what makes me important, well that should be obvious.  It is the same thing that makes every Klingon important.  Me, I do.  I don't need a starfleet headline."

"Well then, if you are such a self sufficient Klingon, why do you need a federation ship."

K'Hare laughed.  "So you do know the ship I rode in on!  Ha!  It may be silver, but the incorporates Klingon designs.  Without those designs... it may as well be a puny explorer class."

"Oh yeah... those Klingon designs would never have worked if not for the human Engineer Montgomery Scott.  Without his input, the ship was just a like a Klingon... big, clumsy, tripping over itself.  And you can't deny it... your ship is even named after the human."

K'Hare eyed her.  She was here for a reason and he'd just figured it out.  "Yes, the IKS Montgomery Scott is one of the support ships for my base.  But I named it after the Engineer, not the human.  If you'd met him, you understand that he was an Engineer above all else."

"So you did know him!  Tell me, what was it like knowing such a legend." Sajida asked with enthusiasm.

K'Hare smiled.  He would have been insulted but she was an Engineer and he understood.  "For a human, he was very Klingon.  He could outdrink most and his dedication to his ship, his captain, was immensely honorable.  As for what it is like to know a legend... I am sure many will ask you the same question once I am gone."

Laughing up a storm Sajida fell back in her chair and answered K'Hare "Ah my friend you make me laugh!  Yet they possibly may ask me too. But to know Scott must have been something...." she replied taking a pause. "Did he work on the ship with you or was it just named in memoriam of him?"

K'Hare waved at the bar for a few more rounds and switched into his story telling mode.  "Now as a starfleet Engineer you have no doubt heard the stories.  Some say its just a story but I met him and can tell you it was true.  When he first returned, it was not so much kept secret but just wasn't broadcast.  He was given the freedom to do what he wanted.  At the same time, starfleet and the Empire was working on the original raptor and it had its successes and failures.  In the end the problems with the ship outweighed its advantages...it was to be scraped.  But, fate stepped in and Scotty returned to starfleet looking for a challenge just as the project was about to be killed.  Since the integration of starfleet and Empire technology then was primarily based on notes from his old reports from way back when... made during his time on a stolen bI'rel, they gave him the task of saving the ship.  It took him less than 6 months to ..."

K'Hare continued with the story weaving in and out of the raptor's history and the antics of the design team and the stories about their drinking and the results binges.  Oddly, the personal details of the story centered as much around a Klingon ne' and his actions as they did around the legendary Engineer.  K'Hare told the story well and made it seem almost as if he was there.

ON:

yoHDeS had sat in her chair, relaxing and drinking her wornagh.  The bartender had been keeping an eye on her and sending over a new bottle whenever it looked like the one she held was getting empty.

She was close enough to the bar to hear occassional snippets of the conversation the Klingon was having with the blue person, but it was background.  It appeared that the two males were having a debate of some sort.

She emptied the last of her bottle and took up the new one that had been set in front of her.  She needed some food, so she stood and after a little bit of a sway and a dip, she had been drinking for quite some time quietly, she moved toward the bar and heard the Klingon's last words.

"I will do as you ask.  I will watch your child, teach her, take the responsibility for her and protect her from harm... all harm.  Make the arrangements to get her there and her place will be prepared."  He picked up his tankard and drained it.  "And know I will be watching.  Your actions wont go unnoticed.  Operating a ship such as yours is difficult to do alone... anger starfleet and you will have few options and no federation bases to go to for help."

K'Hare grabbed the tankards that were not empty and stalked off to a table clearly in a mood.

She was adept at avoiding collisions, being short, people, and Klingons in particular usually didn't see her so she stepped to the side, swayed the littlest bit and then sashayed two steps and settled onto a bar stool, two down from the blue person on the side opposite the other Klingon, who looked like an adolecent to her.

She asked the bartender if they made qul DIr and when he said he could send out for some from the Klingon place down the way she nodded that he should do so.

To no one in particular she said "A Klingon who would protect the child of another, even if he had to kill the parent of the child he protected, is a Klingon I would want fighting at my back."

Q'olavraH had been unable to sleep, and so, a drink.

She had decided to stay in the quarters that she was sharing with wovqut.  K'rahl had been offered the extra room there, but he was not entirely forgiven and so thoughts and his presence had kept her awake.

She had checked the girl and made certain she was sleeping soundly.  K'rahl's cousins were likely off having fun of their own, since they were not sleeping on the floor of the main room, which is where they had said they would sleep.

K'rahl's room was quiet, so perhaps he was also out.

She nodded to the security officer at the door to the quarters and as she walked down the corridor toward the lift she heard him calling for someone to pick her up and follow her.  "Tell them I am going to the Legion!" she called over her shoulder and grinned back when the guard grinned and nodded to her.  She had after all been nothing but friendly and helpful to them.

She entered the Legion with her escort, chatting about different types of martial arts from different worlds.  The guard moved to a table with other security personel, all watching their own quarry with a pot of coffee to share by the door as Q'ol moved to the bar.

She nodded to Tauvits, who she knew but barely, then she nodded to the small student of K'Hare's, Ing, who she'd heard so much about.  As she settled on the stool at the end of the bar she spotted a small Klingon looking female who must be a half breed of some sort, to be so small, but the female was faced forward at the bar and didn't seem to be looking around at all.

Q'ol was served up a tankard of bloodwine and she turned on her stool and leaned back against the bar on one elbow while her dark eyes scanned the rest of the room.

She saw K'Hare at a table with Sajida, who she had met at last years tournament, but K'Hare seemed to be deep into the narrative of some story or another, and since Q'ol did not want to hear it halfway done, if it was one she had not heard before she remained where she was.  Once he was done with the telling she might go over, or not.  She remembered that he had said he was going to get drunk tonight and have fun, and it looked like he was on his way to reaching his goal.

She took a long swallow from her tankard and watched the room.

Ing watched K'Hare leave and head for a table. He had overheard some of the conversation with the blue man, enough to make him consider joining K'Hare.

However, as Q'olavraH entered the bar, his attention turned to her, so that he did not react to the small Klingon woman who took the seat next to him. But that changed when she spoke.

Ing took the seat next to her. "Is that so rare, in this universe?" he asked. Then his food arrived, and he poked his qagh to see how much it would squirm.

OFF:
His question is semi-rhetorical, meaning, "Are such Klingons really that rare?". To someone who knows the origin of wovqut, it would have a distinct double meaning, but to most listeners, it's just a normal question.

Tauvits snorted slightly at the comment and question from the two small Klingons, and poured himself another hefty glass of whiskey. With current plans dealt with, all he would need to do now would be to arrange a transport to KDB. Sanders could make sure this was secure and not about to be set upon by pirates in-transit, and then he could carry on his duty without worrying about his daughter to an excessive level.

He drained the fresh glass of whiskey, and coughed a little as it threatened to go down the wrong hole. Still he shook his head, and straightened up. All he had to do now was talk to Ta'pez about the meH'Haj and deal with Forrest... for which he already had a plan.

"I don't know if it's rare," Tauvits said, addressing his bottle of whiskey but in a tone loud enough to be heard by the others, not hiding the fact that he was all-too keenly aware of their presence, "but I have found one, and one is all I need." He poured yet more alcohol into the tumbler. "And as I don't want K'Hare coming after me to kill me, I suppose I shall have to be careful, shan't I?" He glanced over at them, a faint smirk on his lips.

K'rahl Son of Kur'rk
Third Lord of the House of K'brd'Lok

K'rahl had been unable to sleep and had decided to try out some of the entertainments available.  Having scaled a mountain and found no mountain targh lived upon it he decided to try the bar instead.

He walked into the Legion alone.  He was rarely alone, he surrounded himself with trusted warriors and was always on guard.  His early duties within Bravo Fleet had been to seek out those Klingons that might be in the Exchange Program to weaken the links between the Empire and the Federation.  This had led to him making more enemies among his own race than outside.

Now he walked alone, he was troubled.  He was more concerned about his relationship with his Mate than he could let others know.   As he entered the bar he put all thoughts of Q'olavraH aside; only to see her there.

She was alone.  K'Hare was sat speaking to Sajida.  He saw Ing speaking with yoHDes.  He had never met the Ex-Commander of the meH'Haj but it was his duty to know who senior officers were, regardless of whether they were currently active or not.

He saw Tauvits.  He was unsure why such a decent warrior might want to be associated with the Changpu'.  He decided now was not a time to investigate.

He was about to walk over to Q'olavraH when his COMM beeped.

=/\= "nuqneH!" =/\= He was iritated.

=/\= "My Lord," =/\= it was K'jut, =/\= "I know you did not want to be disturbed but an important message just arrived from K'Trol.  All of the p'Dra'on must be informed imediately...=/\=

=/\= "Informed of what?" =/\= K'rahl demanded, he was still not pleased with the way K'Trol had dealt with him on Stabase Bravo.

Verghese simply looked up at the blue man as he uttered his statement and raised an eyebrow.

He had been paying attention to K'hare's story about the Raptor class up until that point and was finding the engineering terms and references a bit confusing, to say the least.

But nevertheless, he had also heard a bit of what Tauvits was referring to and simply nodded to himself before continuing to eat, observing what was going on around him, especially the new arrivals on the other table.

Ing returned his glance. "K'Hare would not come after you," he replied, "...without cause."

"So tell me," Ing continued, "Why did you choose K'Hare to make your request of? What made you believe he would be such a Klingon?"

Title: Re: The Legion
Post by Falco_Tauvits on Feb 26th, 2005, 10:12am

"He has the resources at his command to make fulfilling his promise easily possible," Tauvits explained calmly. "Although there are several out there whose intentions and competence I do not doubt, K'Hare is one of the few whose position makes my request easier, rather than harder." He sipped on his whiskey.

"Then there's that which goes beyond the material and practical. Who better for the job than a Klingon? And of the few Klingons I know, those who I would trust with the duty are few. I may not know K'Hare fully well, but I trust him. This academy of his simply makes everything easier. It shows that he is not new to the concept of taking others under his wing for tutelage and protection, even others society might not approve of, and a man like that, with a setup like that available to him, is what I need."

He smirked a little, sipping further on the whiskey. "Why, you think I have chosen poorly?"

Title: Re: The Legion

"I suspect you have chosen well," Ing replied. "I am merely curious. When a man chooses to send his daughter away to keep her safe, how does he make the decision where to send her?"

"But as you say," Ing said, "Someone far from your enemies, in a different sphere of government, even, who has the resources and inclination to protect her make such a choice logical."

Title: Re: The Legion

Tauvits shrugged, swirling the whiskey about in its glass. "I could have her sent underground to live in a bunker where nobody could ever get at her, safe for years to come. Would that prevent her from coming to physical harm? Yes. Would that be saving her life...? Only in the cruellest sense of the word." He glanced over at Ing. "K'Hare can provide for her protection in a place that will still not deny her chance for life. She's only bloody well seventeen, she shouldn't be affected by my stupid decisions to the extent where she can't live a somewhat normal life."

He shrugged again. "The alternative would be in the care of my ex-wife. I'd rather hand her over to a pack of cut-throat criminals who hate my guts. I think they're be somewhat kinder."

"So it is not merely protection, but protection plus opportunity," Ing observed. "it must be somewhere where she can learn and grow."

Ing picked up some limply wriggling qagh and popped them into his mouth, chewing slowly.

Title: Re: The Legion
Post by Falco_Tauvits on Feb 26th, 2005, 12:21pm

Tauvits looked down at his whiskey and, for the first time, contemplated the consequences of a mostly-human teenaged girl being thrown in to an academy to teach those of Klingon blood how to be Klingon.

Granted, Clare was hardier than most her age, having learnt to survive on her own a long time ago. He was also somewhat glad he'd managed to encourage her to take up fencing some years ago, back when they had lived together during his time as a Starfleet Academy instructor; she just might not get ripped apart in the physical contests. Andorian heritage, although her mother had seen to it that there was nothing but pure human in her appearance, might at least give her an edge that others would not be expecting.

"I'm not sure learning and growing as a Klingon would be her first choice," Tauvits admitted, frowning a little.

If his daughter did live through the problems, chances were she would kill him.

Ing nodded, finished chewing his qagh, and washed them down with a slug of bloodwine.

"Yes, I'm sure the girl will fit right in at he academy," he said, somewhat incongruously.

Post by Verghese Siminway on Feb 26th, 2005, 11:06pm

Verghese was still seated at the legion, listening to K'hare and the others speak. In particular, he payed attention to Ing's and Tauvit's conversation. Then there was a little commotion at the door, catching his attention. He looked towards it and saw....her

T'Lai was trying to get into the bar, but a couple of drunken klingons was blocking her, deliberately not letting her in. The smell of alchohol reeked in thier breaths, and they were dressed in street clothes, making it obvious they were nothing but thieves.

"I said let me in, or I will slice both of you in half like two pieces of cake." She demanded.

Verghese looked at the two drunken klingons and shook his head. This wasn't going to end prettily. For a moment, he considered letting T'lai deal with them herself, but then remembered the fight earlier and the fact that she may just be heavily injured. Sighing, he got up, leaving his meal half-way. He signalled to the bartender not to clear it off, and that he would be back in just a minute. Walking towards the door, he paused just behind the front klingon, placing his right, cybernetic arm on his shoulder. Clearing his throat, Verghese simply spoke in a slow voice. "If I were you, I'd let her pass. She's got one of the meanest streaks I've seen this side of Romulus...and she has some very big friends."

Then one of them circled her, and lightly placed his hand on her shoulder. "Such dangerous words for such a lovely klingon." He told her. His partner laughed a drunken laugh.

T'Lai had about enough of their games, so she withdrew her dagger, and aimed it at the klingon in front of her's chest. "Move out of my way. Now." she said in an icey voice.

The klingon didn't seem to have noticed his presence behind him, instead focusing on something T'lai was holding towards him. Why does it always have to end this way Verghese thought to himself. Simply increasing the pressure he squeezed the Klingon's shoulder, causing him to gasp in pain. Verghese then simply pushed him aside, revealing T'lai holding a long blade right in front of him.

The klingon reconized the blade and yeilded. He then stepped aside as Verg used pressure points which were quite painful and she walked past him, ignoring the two fools as they left the bar

Verghese stepped aside as T'lai stormed past him, obviously in a rather bleak mood. He simply watched the other two Klingons leave before turning around and following T'lai in.

"I didnt need your help, human." She snapped.  "I could have sliced that klingon in a blink of an eye if he didnt yeild." She said as she walked over to grab a tankard of blood wine.

Verghese wasn't taken aback at this. He had expected it, especially considering the results of the previous match. Verghese stayed back a few steps from her just in case though.

"Yes, and then get yourself sliced open by the Klingon behind you in the process." he replied.

T'Lai growled slightly at him.  "What is it that you want?  If all you have to say is to antagonize me, then leave." She demanded.

Verghese simply picked up his plate from his table on the way, following her slowly. "Nothing, actually. Just wanted to congratulate you on a good and honorable fight in the previous round."

T'Lai found an empty table to sit at.  "Well thank you." She said, deciding to keep the conversation mutual.

Verghese took a seat as well.Taking a small bite, he simply asked. "Are you allright though? It seemed you took quite a hit in that round."

"Well mentally, Im fine.  Physically, I broke my arm completely, and he sliced my arm pretty deep.  For a while I was wearing a sling, but I took it off.  My arm feels fine now." She said.

Verghese nodded, taking a sip of water. He didn't really know what to say - hell, he didn't really know why he was sitting here in the first place. He hesitated a bit before speaking.

"If you ask me, you really don't seem mentally fine. It looks like something is troubling you rather deeply...was it something the doctor said?"

T'Lai frowned slightly and shook her head after she took a drink of her wine.

"Are you sure?

Verghese frowned. There was definately something bugging her, but then, this was T'lai he was talking about...."you sure?" he asked, trying one more time to see if he could get anything.

T'Lai burried her face in her hands, as if she wanted to cry, with a hurt expression.  Being that klingons can't cry, she just stared at the table.  "He killed our baby..." She began.

"It happened after we got on meH'Haj.  K'Vok had angered me, and we got into a challeneged battle..  He...he stabbed me in the stomache....and...  " She paused for a moment.

"And I just found out I was ....pregnant....  and... it would have been his baby..." She said.

Verghese froze. He just froze. He had expected something minor, really. Something to do with the battle. Hell, he'd expected her not to say a thing at all. But that she had told this out to him, in here and out of the blue....inwardly he cursed. What had he gotten himself into? Slowly, he turned to T'lai and asked. "Does he know?"

T'Lai shook her head.

"Ever since that fight...we've been in a mutual relationship... he seems to ignore me or avoid me." She said quietly.

Verghese simply nodded sadly before speaking. "Well...the news is rather...startling and sad, to say the least." He paused, frowning. "I find it hard that any person could actually ignore you that easily. Unless you haven't tried getting his attention, of course."

"Let's just say, I'm in no hurry to find him.  Normally he use to find me...now I am worried..." She said solemnly.

"Well then, what are you waiting for? If it is indeed his child, and it is now dead, he deserves to know. This is more so if you are worried about him...." Verghese replied, not looking up from his meal.

"I am not sure how he will handle the news...I kind of want to wait till I can handle it better myself.. I only found out a few hours ago...so it's still trying to set in my mind..." she said.

"I see....either way, you'll have to tell him sooner or later." Looking at a clock on the wall, he realized it was quite late. "It might be better to tell him later, actually. The matches will begin soon, and no doubt he will be busy enough with it."

"Yeah...  And... well I got something else bothering me too.." She said quietly.
Verghese took a sip of his drink before asking for a refill. He listened intently. Turning to face T'lai, he spoke. "Speak up. I'm a bartender, so at the least I can offer a listening ear."

"Well.. They thing that I killed Chang..." She said.  "That twirp, Taj, found armor in my room that I didnt put there." She told him.

Now Verghese really froze. "Chang......is dead?" he asked, slowly. Surprisingly, he hadn't heard of it yet. This was an interesting development indeed, as much as it was surprising. But what concerned him more now was what T'lai told him she was most likely a suspect in this case.

T'Lai looked over at Verghese.  She wasn't aware that no one knew yet.  "Oh my...I guess I wasn't suppose to tell anybody...  But ... yeah he is..." She said with surprize.
"Well, it matters little. What matters is that you say you have been framed by this...'taj', as it were, with Chang's armour, it seems."

"Yeah but because Taj has been in the family longer than I have been, they dont believe me." She told him.

"Still, it is surprising that they did not question his role in this...or what he was doing in your quarters for that matter." Verghese replied.

"According to him, and his father, whom is on his side, he was "investigating" the room for clues." She said with disgust in her voice.

He frowned. This was puzzling indeed. "And yet, was this 'investigation' authorized at all? If they went out on their own, and then specifically to your quarters alone, it does make it a bit suspicious, to say the least. That, and I find it surprising that the elder Chang would have let you in with him alone, considering the time since your last meeting."

T'Lai nodded.  "I have no clue if the investigation was authorized or not." She said. "then it would be better to find out first. If it is indeed unauthorized, then the fact that they were inside your quarters should come under question."

"Yeah...Can we change the topic? I'd rather not talk about this." She said.  "Remember, you're not an intellegance officer anymore.  And you aren't in my command either.. so I'd rather not talk about this if I dont have to." She requested

Verghese nodded. He knew the need for discretion. "What do you wish to talk about then?" he replied.

"Well, why you're here with me." She said with curiosity.

Oh nuts Verghese thought to himself, cursing inwardly. He had been asking that question to himself, and so far had come up with little answer. "Well.....first I saw you were having trouble with those Klingons. And after that, the way you stormed pass me...well, it just suggested you needed someone to listen to." he paused. "I am a bartender after all, part of my job is to listen to even the most drunken customers, may it be in the bar or out."

"Yeah..." T'Lai said.  "But I believe you're here with me because of another reason though.  Your face says one thing... but your eyes say another." She said calmly.

Verghese was a bit surprised at this. Well, he shouldn't be. "I don't know what you're talking about." He replied

T'Lai looked at him with a stern expression.  "There is no need to hide anything from me.  I just poured my heart and soul out to you, yet you wont give me the same courtisy?" She asked as she kept her eyes locked on his.

Verghese looked at her for a few seconds. Not speaking, not answering. Finally, he gave a sigh, looking around the bar a bit. "Well, yes I should." as soon as he broke eye contact, he came darn close to a panic. He had to think of something, someway to escape or even delay the inevitable.

"Do you know what happens to liars in the town I grew up in?" She asked just to stir him up a little.

"They were hanged and totured in various and horrible ways?" he mused.

"Their tounges were cut off so they couldnt speak another lie." She said with a serious expression.

She then watched his shocked expression, and she bursted into laughter.

"Actually nothing happened to them, I made that up... and you actually believed me!" She said with a snicker.

Verghese gave out a short laugh. Sometimes it was good to be had. At least now it gave him a few moments to breathe

"So... back to the topic... What's on your mind?  Any deep secrets you want to talk about?" She asked him with a friendly punch in the arm.

Think! darnit Think! verghese thought to himself. He had to get someway out of this. Although part of him was pushing him to spill the beans, out of simply fairness, the other half wanted it to be secret, and not to reveal anything. Out of this struggle though, he got a small idea. "Well...actually, quite a bit." Verghese glanced over at K'hare for a second before turning back to T'lai.

"Well I am open ears too, you know... after all we are friends." She said with a slight grin.

Verghese gave a smile. "Well, it's more of the bar than anything else." He sighed, turning his back to the bar. "I miss the old life I use to have, running goods to both sides of the nuetral zone. The bar...it's too sedentary, too quiet. Oh, it's good and comfortable of course...But the recent mission on the Solar Bounty was my first in over a year, and the thrill of being on a ship once more...it's simply irresistable." His eyes went downwards as he remembered the old days.

T'Lai frowned slightly.  That wasn't what she wanted to hear.  "Yeah I know what you mean... I would do almost anything to go back to my old way of life... but if I did that, I would loose what little honor I have left." She said.

"That's the difference between us. I can go back at anytime. The darn thing's right there, calling to me...all I need to do is take in the Solar bounty and trade it in for the Vindicator.... then I'll be free once again." Verghese paused, frowning. "but then, I did leave it for a reason. Like you, I fear it may just end up that I loose everything if I went back."

"It's a shame that you don't join us at the meH'Haj..  You could try and gain back some of the things you lost....though I know there are things that are irreplaceable... you can always try and work for a better future for yourself and your family." She told him.

At the mention of his family, Verghese's frown turned into a sneer. He snapped back at her, obviously pissed. "I do believe I already told you once, I have no family left. I doubt I ever will have one either."

T'Lai was taken back by his reaction.  "Well with that attitude, it's no wonder you wont ever have another family." she snapped back as she slammed down her mug.

"It's a good thing too, otherwise they'd end up all dead, just like my current one." He replied. His mood starting to go sour.

T'Lai was growing irratated.  "You really are a fool." She said before standing.  "If all you want in your life is to make a fool of yourself, then I want nothing more to do with you." She told him in a very stern and cold tone of voice.

Verghese paused, and then gave out a short laugh. His expression turned rather grim however, as he continued. "Perhaps so....but I'd rather live my life a fool, than to harm those whom I care for. History repeated itself too many times to me, and my fear of it repeating itself again has paralyzed me." He paused, looking up at T'lai. "I may be a fool to you, but at least I know to myself that I care enough to stay that way, rather than just let it affect those I care for. And then watch them die later on, all because I refused to stay that way." He paused, turning around and facing the bar once more and back to his food and drink.

T'Lai frowned and looked at him.  "I really don't know what else to tell you.  I tried before to convince you it wasn't your fault...but like you said... the past repeats it self alot...  Like you, I have no family....  At least, not a real family.  In this... house... to me... its a pretend family... and a 'suqy' one at that." accidentally pronouncing sucky incorrectly.  "I lived all of my life until a few days ago in exile...  A life of no honor, and no future.  My life was at a void...  I had nothing to live for.  And then that all changed one day at the local bar..." She said quietly.
"Thats when I had gotten kidnapped and brought back to that ship...where I was a prisoner.... " she said.
"I wonder where I would be if I had chose to stay in bed that day.  I would be where I was before that day... a nothing." She said.

Verghese simply nodded, understanding what she was trying to say. "Well, I don't know what I can say. Perhaps, someday the past won't repeat itself so much, and something extraordinary happens to me to break the cycle. You've already done it, but until I can, I doubt i'll ever be something more than a mere bartender." He paused, his meal almost finished. Dabbing at his mouth with a cloth. He continued.

"But in the case that we ever meet again after such a thing happens....at least know that you have someone that cares about what happens to you. And if you need help, you know where to look."

She was still behind his back. Cursing internally, He simply gave a nod. "I am sorry about your loss; and I mean it for both of them, and I apologize for the abruptness of this and causing you some distress, especially at this late hour, but this conversation has come to an end."

Digging out some change from his pocket, he gave the bartender a bit of money for the meal. Taking another glass of water, he stepped up from the barstool.

Looking to T'lai, he gave a slight bow and spoke.

"I bid you a good night and a good journey once the tournament finishes. Thank you."

With that, he turned and move to one of the other tables in the vicinity, trying to put some distance between him and T'lai.

Q'ol saw K'rahl enter.  She felt herself begin to tense up, as if her body was preparing for battle, but then she forced herself to relax and grab the new tankard the barkeep had just set at her right elbow on the bar and take a drink.

She and K'rahl had come to a sort of tense cease-fire.  He knew there were still issues that they needed to discuss and solve before things could go back to normal.  If they went back to normal at all.

She watched her mate of two years as he stopped and answered a hail on his comm badge.  Just looking at him could make her remember the battles they had fought together, the depth that only she saw because he did not know how to show it in any way but when they were alone together, when he was completely unguarded.  She realized that he was only that way with her, and it said something about the level of his feeling for her.

She took another long drink and sighed.  She did not wish to think about what she would do if things that she suspected were true, and if house politics were such that nothing could be done about it.

She watched K'rahl speak to whoever was on the other end of the comm then, relaxing back against the bar with her drink.

K'rahl Son of Kur'rk

K'rahl looked over to Q'olavraH.  He had no idea how she would react to this news.  Sinatra was her friend, would she obey the orders of K'Trol and withdraw her defence of the Blue-eyed Demon?

He knew that he must tell her, that was clearly the unsaid message from K'jut.  He had to tell her before anyone else did.

He sighed, all he needed now was another thing to anger her.

Walking across the bar he noticed a warrior from the bIQ'tIQ'Iw was there, stood at the entrance.  Another was sat at the end of the bar.  Neither were talking to anyone, nor paying attention to the many distractions, both appeared to be absorbed in thought.  He was being watched, perhaps K'jut had assigned them.

"Beloved, I have news from the House.  Apparently the charges against Sinatra, the ones of theft of Federation technology, they are true.  K'Trol has had to remove her from our House."

He kept it short, he knew she would probably question this and he would have to tell her all he knew.

T'Lai looked up as K'rahl entered.  She suddenly felt very tiney like a mouse as she watched him go over to Q'ol.  She took a long deep breath and walked over to him.  Hoping she didn't interupt anything, she bowed slightly after she got his attention.

"K'Rahl, I would assume?" She asked him.

((tag krahl))

"I was your replacement for the finals...  I just wanted to meet you, is all." She replied.

K'rahl Son of Kur'rk...

He turned from Q'olavraH to look at the speaker.

A Sogh from the meH'Haj, "T'lai Sogh?".

"You took my place..." he said, clearly distracted by what he had just communicated to his mate.

"You fought two Federation Marine Colonels and then were knocked out by a Federation Medic." He said as he recollected the details he had been given by Kur''rk.

"You have learnt much from this?" he asked.

T'Lai nodded.  "Indeed I have.  I have learned many things, since my first day here." She told him.  "I hope that you are not angry with me for taking your place at the competition." She told him.

K'rahl Son of Kur'rk...

"I was not here in time.  It was only fair that another take my place." he said simply.

"You did well, Federation Marines are often trained in the arts of our race.  Of course you probably started learning our arts younger than they and more constantly."

T'Lai frowned slightly as a memory suddenly unearthed itself and played in the back of her mind.  It was of her father training her, before he had died.

"Yes, I have been trained, and still training since I was 5 years old." She told him quietly.

Q'olavraH listened to K'rahl with a blank look on her face.  As this news began to parse, she was about to speak when the be' approached.

She took a drink from her tankard while she waited to speak to her mate.

What she had not yet had time to communicate to K'rahl were her own finding about Stella, so this news did not come as much of a surprise to her.

She let her eyes roam the room as was her habit as K'rahl was speaking to the other female.

Ing approached Q'olavraH as her gaze fell on him.

"How is your health?" he asked in the brusque manner of a Klingon greeting

Q'olavraH looked him up and down and then with a grin, "I seem to be breathing, so I suppose my health is fine."

"Good! I saw your last match and was concerned." Ing replied. "You are suffering no ill effects from you adventure getting here?"

"Perhaps before we have this discussion.. cadet .. you will introduce yourself?" Q'ol said with an arched brow.

"I am Ing. K'Hare's science officer on the Hegh'ta." Ing announced. "He told me to investigate the matter which delayed you."

"He has told me much about you…"she said cryptically.  "I am Q'olavraH, but you already knew that.  Now that we formally know one another..."  She smiled and took a drink from her tankard. "...there are no ill physical effects that I can tell."

"I saw your match," Ing replied, "You seemed..."

"Distracted." She shook her head and smirked at herself.

Ing nodded. "…not the same fighter as I saw last year."

"There is a lesson for you if you haven't learned it.  When you have a battle in front of you it is a very good idea to focus on that battle and not allow other things in your life to intrude until the battle of the moment is won.  I imagine the very fact that this is a tournament and I knew I would not die if I lost is what let me become distracted."  She took a sip.  "And so I have learned something this year as well.  Fight all battles as if you will lose your life if you lose."

Ing nodded, taking her advice. "I did have one specific concern," he said. "You seemed slower, as well, which I thought may have been lingering effects of something that occurred to you before you arrived."

"Slower in what respect?" she asked, curious.

"Slower to attack an opening. Slower to recover from an attack. Slower to move your blade into a position to block."

"Ah... I was using K'Hare's betleH.... It is heavier than a standard betleH.  At first it did not affect my technique, but as I got tired it was harder to keep up my usual pace." she answered and then took a swig, emptying the tankard.

"K'Hare's new betleH? That would explain it." Ing looked surprised. "Why didn't you opt for a more standard weapon?"

She picked up the full tankard that the barkeep had put at her elbow, while she thought about her answer.  "It seemed right to use that blade."  She did not elaborate.  "I am thinking of getting one made for myself to those specifications to practice with."

Ing nodded. After a pause he changed the subject. "And the girl? What will become of her?"

A smile flitted across Q'ol's face, "She will have a chance to learn and grow and become all that she is capable of becoming.  She will likely join K'Hare's classes and I will be helping with her training with bladed weapons."

Ing nodded. "I was just speaking with the half-Andorian former Admiral. Apparently he is sending his daughter to K'Hare as well."

"It seems the .. 'academy'.. is becoming quite popular.  This is good.  Perhaps he will allow me to stay around and help at times.  QaraH must need a vacation once in a while...?" Q'ol tried not to smile, she had heard of the various forms of 'tough love' that QaraH often used as persuation.

Ing shook his head. "What is it about K'Hare that causes people to send students to him for teaching? Isn't he supposed to be bigoted against non-Klingons?"

"Due to current circumstances I believe his views might change more quickly than they would have otherwise.  That said, I can think of no other I would allow to teach my children, be they full or half bloods or otherwise.  I hope when SuQ and maS are bigger that they will be allowed to join in some of K'Hare's classes."  She hoped K'rahl was hearing this conversation and paying attention.

Ing accepted her statement. "What is it that gives you so much confidence in K'Hare?"

"He is…"  she blinked, then took a drink, trying to think how to explain it, and she felt she should explain it the best she could to this student of her friend.

Ing waited patiently, and took a sip of his bloodwine.

"K'Hare is Klingon."  She thought about that, and then decided to try and explain it after taking a drink from her tankard.  "I know that no matter where I am, if K'Hare lives and I need him, he will come.  He will not forsake his honor for personal gain.  I know this.  He is my friend." the last said with conviction as if it was explanation enough.

Ing turned to look at where K'Hare was busily getting drunk as he considered that. Q'ol also looked toward her friend while taking another drink.

"I thank you for the talk," Ing said, "You have given me much insight."

Q'olavraH smiled.  "If I can give you other insights, all you need to do is seek me out.  Though I'm more likely to bend your ear with a tale than actually say anything useful."

Ing managed a smile and excused himself, "I regret that I have no time for tales tonight. I must get back to work on my investigation for K'Hare."

Q'ol nodded and went back to her drink. "Die well Ing."

"And you as well," Ing replied, and left the bar, leaving his empty tankard near Q'olavraH.

<<A few minutes later>>
<<Ing's room>>
Ing went straight to his room, where he entered a message programmed to be delivered to K'Hare when the totlh awoke. Then Ing went straight to bed.

The message read simply:
"I believe I have found DonK'Hare's motive. If I am correct, we are in no further danger. Summon me when you get this, and I will explain."

K'rahl turned to Q'olavraH as Ing left.

"Surely you know that I would always assist you in any time of trouble," he said.

Q'ol looked at K'rahl and grinned.

"Of course you would.  But it is likely you would already be there.  I know that if I needed him, he would come."

She handed K'rahl the tankard she held that she'd only taken a small gulp from and grabbed the one that the barkeep set almost immediately at her left elbow.

"What else was in the message about Stella, if I am allowed to know...?" she asked then took a drink.

K'rahl took the drink and swallowed a mouthful.

"Sinatra is not to be admitted to any of our properties, or offered protection.  Unless of course refusing either would cause issues with others."  He paused.

"The High Council have been informed, I only heard as I entered here."

Q'olavraH nodded while she thought about things.

"It would make sense that K'Trol would cut her loose..."  she said it to herself and then took a drink from her tankard.

K'rahl was pleased that this was not causing another argument.  Arguments just heated the blood more and that made the current living arrangements less comfortable than they already were.

"I feel like a bowl of qagh, they do do real qagh?" he asked hopefully.

Q'ol came out of her thoughts.

"HIja' they do real qagh.  I had Qul DIr the other eve and it was quite good."  She said, taking another drink from her tankard and glancing around.

"Shall we get a table?  Or will you sit at the bar?"

K'rahl grinned at the thought of qagh.  He would order a full meal, qagh included.

"Lets get a table, for two.  We should eat together."

He beckoned a member of the seving staff to make his wishes known.
