ON:<Quarters, Red 1>

The room they'd been assigned was spacious to say the least. That was one thing Ro missed about Starbase living - she'd been on SB565 before her assignment to the Wildcat B (actually her first assignment had been to the Wildcat A but that had blown up about 2 weeks before it was due to dock, which hadn't been the best omen for her first proper starship job), and although her quarters there had been Ensign rank they were still bigger than her first room on the ship had been.
AND, she thought with a wicked smile playing across her mouth, on starbases they had WATER for baths and showers. Starships couldn't deal with the weight of H2O required for over 400 crew, and so only used what could be obtained from hydroponics and re-cyc.
She and Tomas had 'tested' both bath and shower not long after they'd arrived here - she'd insisted, partly because he was beginning to smell like a dead yak from all the faux-leather in the flyer, and partly because they both needed to burn off some excess energy.
That had worked quite well, she thought, eyeing her sleeping fiance, who still had a  faint smile on his face as he dreamt - possibly about glory and honor, but equally possibly about his idea that she ought to 'dress the part' while watching the competition.
She wasn't totally sure he'd been joking.
Stroking the ridges of his forehead (to a full-blood Klingon they would appear child-like, diluted as his genes were by Vulcan and Human DNA), she kissed him, dressed, and exited the sleeping chamber into the main lounge of their room.
It was good he should rest before his first battle; she, however, needed nothing more than her favorite warm drink to unwind.
Raktajino - the beverage she'd become almost addicted to since her days at the Academy, when Klingons had made up the majority of her small social circle (when she wasn't being hauled over the coals for her 'dangerous aerial manouevres' by one tutor or another, or fighting with her father). She replicated a cup at least once a day and had come to almost rely on its stimulating properties.
Today, however, she wasn't going to use the replicator. Today, she was going to find an authentic source for her daily 'fix'..and what better place than the games?
She'd already accesed the Station site menu via the LCARS interface in the room - making a note of any good location to get blood wine (another favorite since SB565 and her friendship with Marek, one of the Klingon security contingent).
She remembered that was how she'd met Tomas in the first place - although neither of them knew they were to be crewmates back then - although he'd seemed wary of the brew - he hadnt known one should drink it quickly so it didnt get cold.
Now though, he seemed intent on embracing his Klingon 'side'. She was glad about that - and equally glad he had his Human/Vulcan 'sides' to temper his more dominant Klingon one. In her experience Klingon's only had one side and that was 'excitable'.
Enthusiatic, honorable, brave, loyal certainly but excitable seeemed to her to sum it up.
On SB565 she'd spent most of her free time in the 'Targ Pit'..the boisterous Klingon bar in which at least one fight broke out nightly, sometimes including the chained up Targ in the corner (which regularly escaped, much to the enjoyment of the patrons, and seemed as excitable as any warrior); she'd loved the place and it was one thing that she missed now she was ship-bound.
Smiling as she found a place that sounded Klingon and wasn't too far away, she closed the interface menu and let herself out of the room as quietly as she could so as not to wake Tomas.
She had made herself a promise not to 'wander down' to the Base's Engineering section (although she felt the pull of it in her veins as surely as if it had been part of her circulation), and was determined to keep to that promise.
If she gave in she knew she'd be down there for hours poking around, and would no doubt miss the opening ceremony later today, and Tomas wouldn't be impressed either.
In the turbo lift she quickly changed her destination (for some reason she appeared to have said the word 'Engineering' out loud much to her embarrassment), and fixed her mind firmly on thoughts of genuine Rakajino.
As a precaution she also raised her mental shields briefly, 'tethered' herself to Tomas' concious mind which was currently submerged under the weight of his slumber, and tightened her telepathic shutters once more.
As soon as he began to stir, to swim upwards from his sea of dreams, she'd know to head back.
Maybe they'd have time for another shower before the official address began....
