OFF: Too late to post my arival I guess.  At least I'm just a spectator.

ON:

Aklev finally made his way to the local establishment (well, the largest one), after having stopped in his quarters just long enough to drop off his belongings & straighten his hair.  He'd aparently missed the opening ceremony, so much for doing a couple of 'little' last-minute tweaks to the Scott's systems although the ship did desperately need it. He had achieved his other objective, of avoiding the grumpy boarding crowds, but that wasn't turning out to be much consolation.

He made his way to the bar & got himself food and a jug of his favourite ale (he made sure it was a jug, not a mere pint) before a couple of faces caught his eye. So'l aaaand... Admiral Tauvits (in civilian garb this time); plus a big guy who had his back to the bar.

He went over.  "Yo So'l; Admiral," he said with a smile and a little more respect on "Admiral"; & was then pleased to find the other guy was Loj Hartson. "Loj!" He raised his ale to the guy he'd fought with last year before he noticed his mood.

OFF: Aklev's a tad oblivious in social situations, may not notice Loj's mood immediately, nor Tauvits' reaction to being called Admiral.

Tauvits didn't react at first to the 'Admiral' address tagged on after the greeting of S'ol by the newcomer, but as he looked up automatically to see how it was, the explanation was clear. He recognised the Andorian from their discussions the previous years, and grinned, gesturing to a seat for him to take.

Tauvits: Aklev! Good to see you again. But it's not 'Admiral' any more. I'm a civilian these days. I'm just plain old Falco Tauvits. Can't even scrape a 'Captain' out as my ship's nowhere near here.

He gestured to the last glass of whiskey Loj had refused. It was just as well large amounts of funding for his mission was coming from Starfleet; then again, his own personal accounts could easily allow him to buy drinks for a few people every night of his life if he so desired.

Tauvits: A drink?

Aklev. He remembered this Andoran from the previous tournament. Someone who once sparred with him in last year's tourney with those dual wielding blades he claimed to be of Andoran heritage. And he remembered of a time when they chased shadowed assassins down on Klach D'kel Brakt, a thought which led him to begin phatoming whatever shadows this Andoran might bring him to chase here.

Loj reciprocated Aklev's raised mug of ale and gave what he thought was a better representation of a smile than what he had shown Tauvits earlier. And as the former Admiral offered the new member of this unlikely quartet the empty glass that should have housed the beverage known as whiskey, Loj shifted his gaze to the other Klach D'kel Brakt student amongst them.

Aside from being kidnapped, losing a first mate already, and having to kill an old friend who turned out to be a traitor? Tauvits thought it best to not mention these parts of recent events. It probably wasn't something he should spread around.

Tauvits: Everything's going great. It's nice, for once, to actually be your own boss instead of having to answer to higher-ups with everything you do. Don't get me wrong, no matter where you go you're going to be running into a hierarchy. There's definitely one in the Triangle. It's just less obvious, rather than less rigid, than Starfleet's.

He took a generous gulp of whiskey, and grinned in a reassuring manner. And it was true; despite the nature of the mission, despite all that was going wrong, he felt a good many times more centred than he had this time last year. He knew what he was doing. He knew what his purpose was.

That was, provided he didn't think about Adrian Forrest that much.

Tauvits: You guys ever find yourselves in need of employment, look me up. I could always do with extra hands on the Theseus. Both she and my crew have a habit of breaking themselves. Competitive wages and a guarantee of never being bored. And you can hold me to those promises.

So'l: Maybe, maybe. But I've got a pretty decent gig right now. K'Hare lets me tinker with the Hegh'ta, QaraH doesn't beat me too hard unless I really screw up, and I've gotten used to the smell.

Aklev grinned back at Tauvits. There was something about that grin that he couldn't put his finger on, something that made the offer of employment move from interesting to exciting, and just why was it reminding him of Klinon grins?  Ah... freedom.... Still, Tauvits' words about a hierarchy made Aklev a little uncomfortable.  Better the Devil you know...

"I'll pass too, although it certainly sounds like fun.  As it is I'm just starting to have fun with the Klingons on KDB, and... I dunno, sort-of got plans, but I'll certainly keep your offer in mind."

ON:

Tauvits: Fun with Klingons? I've been there.

Yes, but I don't think the fun you're remembering and the fun they refer to are quite the same.

Tauvits: And a shame. But if K'Hare ever decides to fire you both, or work you too hard, you know where to come to. I guarantee you, the Theseus has barrels of bloodwine which my crew aren't making much headway on... Well, my first mate may have tried to drown himself in one of the barrels once, but I don't think that cut down on how much we have.

He grinned again, that easy grin of whiskey and pushing bad thoughts to one side and just focusing on the present, before pouring himself another generous glass.

Tauvits: So, Aklev, you taking part this year or just trying to make sure a ship doesn't fall apart? *sips* Who're you guys looking to be up against in your rounds? I've got a marine sergeant in my firt round, and if I get through it looks as if I might be against some Fed type, or maybe one of Ta'pez HoD's fellas.

OFF:

(Conversations about upcoming rounds is harder with an NPC game in there first. So I guess Falco can't bluster about beating K'Tar just yet!) Wink

So'l: I'm going up against a Romulan science officer, and after that, Q'olavraH.

Speaking as if he knew he was going to win the first round felt strange, but right somehow. The wiskey was fuzzing him up too much to think about what that might mean. Speaking as if he knew Q'olavraH was going to win her first match was just repeating common knowledge. She was the heavy favorate after her showing at last year's tournament.

Aklev looked up and was immediately startled. He had to work not to stare, and realised he'd seen no-one further from... 'federation humanoid average', until now, not even on KDB.  Gorn were technically stranger but he'd never actually met a Gorn, and non-humanoids somehow didn't grab the attention in the same way. He flashed what he hoped was a pleasent smile and tried hard not to stare, (three eyes?!!) although her attention appeared to be on So'l for the moment anyway. At least he could tell which way she was looking, very much unlike a Gorn.

Kira slanted her head towards  Aklev,  he had a pleasant smile but had the same problem as most when seeing a Dracanain for the first time.

kira could only hope he did not think of her as a member of the gorn race. she had to make sure not made that mistake.
turn to face the andorian " im a Dracanian, were from the delta quadrant ." offering her clawed hand.
" my father was marooned on earth a hundred years ago when the Borg smash our home world." picking up her blood wine
" i m not surprise you have probly never seem one of my kind. I think my father and brother  and me, are the only ones in this quadrant. all Starfleet of course."
taking a drink"are you here as a fighter or just watching."
Nodding" im to fight a klingon by the name Loj Hartson im looking foreward to the fight. it will be fun to meet a worthy opponent. me friend Sajida has said many of good word about him."

Loj looked up at the somewhat reptilian humanoid that had, for reason, managed to wander to the table he was at before continuing to douse himself in the Klingon beverage.

A Dracanian - never heard of them. Not that he cared much. The more one stands out makes it easier for them to get slashed down and it did not matter how large you were or how shiny your scales seemed. And no, a third eye did not improve ones chances either.

A familiar name and he was sure he had seen it somewhere before but no matter. Few things mattered as of late and all that truly mattered were the void and the hunger and a past he did not want. Then again who wanted the past that was theirs to keep, regardless of how much one moulded their future. Taking another gulp from his tankard Loj replied in somewhat of a mutter.

"Loj Hartson."

And with another gulp he turned towards Tauvits for some inexplicable reason even he could not fathom. "And I'll be up against some engineer of some desolate station from who knows what star system." Refilling his tankard as he paused, Loj's form slunk more into his chair. "Let's hope he knows how to use a betleH. Or even knows what a betleH is."

OFF:

Two things, with all due respect.

Loj, looks and smells like a full Klingon. However, if  Kira can detect by some other means then please ignore this remark Smiley

Oh yeah, though we are paired up to meet, all of us need to fight a qualification match against an NPC of our own creation first before we actually meet up. Smiley

off: yess she a great sense of smell for races she has commin in personal contact with. klingon and human above all other. but i did not mean in to be disrepectful. kira as you may or may not see is inlove with thing that are not of the norm. so there you go. but you would never hear her say anything about your race stock ..ever this is the respect she give all... and yes im look forward to the fights as well as the npc one...

OOC:

Smelling DNA is a bit over the top.  Now, smelling a phermone and recognizing it isn't outside the bounds of trek sci-fi, but such a thing would need CO approval and anyone in a joint mission has to be careful about bring such things into another game.

Just like recognizing Tauvit's (former) rank, stuff just isn't obvious.  At best, I would think that someone with such a smell could think the Klingon had some human smells about him.  But Loj lives and works on XFY.  You might think he smells odd for a Klingon, but I don't think you could tell me.

I guess its a good then you didn't go sniffing K'Hare too...  *heh*
