"She was a gift to K'Hare from the Emperor. Such is the universe I live in. K'Hare taught her combat secretly. He trusted her, and she him. After the child was born," here Khoal put a picture in her mind of a young girl, "Q'olavraH decided she wanted a better, more equal life for her daughter and she secretly joined the resistance. She taught others what she knew, and K'Hare found out because some of the women knew an attack that was a family move that K'Hare had taught Q'olavraH." "She became an exhibition match in the Emperor's tournament, she was to fight against the best fighter in the Empire, ta'pez. ta'pez killed her, but he did not have to. The point was to break her, but ta'pez knew that would never happen." Now they saw in their mind the fight and felt a sense of having seen it before, only they had not, they had lived it. Almost every strike that ta'pez made on her counterpart was a place where now she carried a scar that the real fake ta'pez had given her. Q'olavraH shook off an odd sense of dread at this information and the connection wavered for a moment. "Since Q'olavraH was murdered, it was murder since she could not hope to defend against a battle hardened fighter like ta'pez when she had only been trained for 10 years, since it happened, K'Hare has not treated their daughter well, and he stopped training her. Now he plans to take her to Romulus." Q'olavraH could sense Khoal's anger at this idea. She also felt his sense of loyalty to the 'other' Q'olavraH and the affection that he had for the child. "We will help you, but we must take the girl with you." they said in her mind. And then knowing they were almost out of time he found her questions and dumped the answers into her mind to quickly for her follow. It was alarming how often ta’pez’s image went by. She was confused and dazed and tried to make him slow down or stop but he would not allow her to withdraw until he was finished. She, yes she, realized that he had been in control, she could not have left the meld but she also knew he was sincere. He finished and suddenly withdrew, leaving Q'olavraH dizzy and with a pounding headache. Khoal stood and moved to the door, leaving Q'ol where she was, knowing that with what he had, had to do it would take her time to gather her wits. Khoal came in and knelt by Q'olavraH, then frowned at the 'other' Khoal who merely said "I had to feed it all to her quickly, we were wasting time and if you are going to escape we have to do it soon. We will be at the place where your betleH tournament is going to happen in one hour. I told the girl to meet me in a cargo bay. He will be busy with weekly weapon’s lessons in twenty minutes. We will go from there to the transporter room." "How will you know where to transport us to?" Khoal asked. "We have done extensive recon and infiltration. We have certain points where we can beam to in your universe. You will arrive safely on Xavier, you can be sure of that. I have set up a program in the computer that will begin running in a few moments that will allow us to get to the cargo hold to get the girl, and then to the transporter room. We must leave now." The 'other' said. For a moment she had the image of a circuit and ... no, her head hurt when she thought of it. Q'olavraH got to her feet, Khoal supporting her for a moment, then she shrugged him off and the three of them moved out. She was unsure if they had changed clothing back, but it did not matter right now. She saw a scorch mark on the bulkhead and remembered when ... she concentrated on keeping her head on what they were doing and not the thoughts and memories that were running around in her mind. Very soon they were in the cargo bay, Khoal and Q'olavraH were off to the side when the girl entered. Khoal who wore the armor told the girl that he was going to help her find a better life, and asked her if she trusted him. When she nodded he waved Q'olavraH and Khoal into the light. The girl was shocked and ran to Q'olavraH, wrapping her arms tightly around the adult female's waist and howling. Q'olavraH reacted instinctively, stroking the girl's head and murmuring nonsense words that her own mother would use to calm her when she had gotten so sad or angry that there were no words to explain it. When the girl calmed a bit Q'ol knelt and spoke to her quietly so the males could not hear, but whatever she said calmed the girl and caused her spine to straighten. The girl nodded at Q'ol, and the Khoals could tell that some agreement had been reached. Q'ol put her arm around the girl's shoulder as then moved to where the males stood. "We are ready, are we not Qa'Hom HumwI'?" The girl nodded, stiffening her spike even more, "I am ready SoSoy." Khoal opened his mouth to say something but was rapidly cut off by the girl, "I know she is not my mother, but she is my mother, even though she and my father are not mated in her world." Khoal wondered how Q'olavraH had filled the girl in on the situation so quickly, but did not ask. Females were a mystery to him. The four of them moved out, the Khoal in the armor leading the way, so that Q'ol thought that he must be the one from this universe, though somehow they glanced at each other in unison every so often for no reason she could see. Q'olavraH moved with the girl behind the males, her mind whirling with the implications of this. She and K'Hare had, had a child in this universe. The child had her facial features, but K'Hare's eyes, and his stout build. She would be taller than either K'Hare or her, but stouter than Q'olavraH was. She had promised the child that she would have a home, with her or not, as she choose. But she would have a home that allowed her to be the warrior she could be. Only now did it occur to her how K'rahl might react. But she would not leave a child of 'her's' to be treated the way that she had seen from Khoal's mind that this girl was being treated by her own father. What would K'Hare think? She wiped these thoughts from her mind. It was to much to think about right now. She would do as she always did, follow her heart and work out the details later. It was not always the best way, but it was her way. The four of them heard the running footfalls at the same time coming from behind and so they all began running for the transporter room, armored Khoal in front, the girl next, Q'olavraH after her and Khoal dropping back to guard their backs. They ran into the transporter room and armored Khoal waved the females onto the transporter pad, he was already working over the controls when the other Khoal came in. In unison that hit controls without saying a word to each other. Together they checked the controls and the armored one ran to the pads. Suddenly, the doors slid open again. It happened so quickly... K'Hare and one other were there.. K'Hare met her eyes, as she stepped in front of the child. She saw such pain and sadness in that gaze for a brief moment, and then he was aiming his disruptor and shooting. From the controls Khoal leaped up and into the path of the weapon. She felt the beam grab her as she saw armored Khoal grab Khoal and bound the last half step onto the pad, then she saw the second beam lance out of the disruptor, aimed at her... the last thing she saw was the look of stark agony on K'Hare's face. Had she imagined the hesitation that allowed her to dematerialize safely? She looked around the room at the assembled group. Now they knew and soon, this whole station would know. Word would travel fast. But if she had waited to tell the story, she might have decided to keep parts of it private but better to live in front of the stars than hiding in shadows. She looked at her friend and his face revealed nothing, and that told her everything. He was thinking of the child.
