The Hunger & The Void
« on: Feb 15th, 2005, 6:43am »

Loj missed his opponent’s name and rank as it was being blared out through the hall, being busy inspecting the sharpness of his blade. He had a good look at him though. Relatively tall and medium built but with disproportionately large shoulders, as if this person had been a frequent visitor to the gym and frequenting one particular machine more than the rest. His weapon appeared well balanced for a man of his height and weight despite the apparently timid nature of said person. Garbed in the gold collared Starfleet uniform, Loj’s opponent stood none too steadily amidst the near chaotic mixture of cheers and jeers from the partisan crowd.

And as soon as the signal was given, it began. Loj rushed in blade tip cutting through the air like a hot knife through melting butter. An attack that was parried aside before the mild mannered engineer – Loj had always assumed it was an engineer – jabbed in with an attack of his own, slicing the large half-Klingon’s knee. Staggering slightly back the Lieutenant was then and there oblivious to the stinging pain that throbbed within his leg, more infuriated with the fact that a mere human had been able to breach his defenses, or lack there of.

With a deafening roar Loj assaulted again, this time at a much greater speed. Blow after blow kept raining down upon his human opponent, each more precise than the next, giving the ‘engineer’ almost no room to counteract. And yet most that landed, apart from the clanging of metal on metal were those of flesh on flesh. Elbows meeting cheeks and knees finding their ways to the abdomen. This was more akin to non-tournament styled betleH duels but it was his way of incorporating what he knew of Terran martial culture into this killing art. Yet at that point in time, such things mattered little to him. All that concerned him was seeing this pretending betleH wielder squished under the weight of him. Such was the only thing that fed the void. Such was the very thing that nourished the blade.

Slowly but surely the slashes began finding their way unto his opponent’s beaten form. Splitting cloth and flesh alike, drinking from the blood of the fearful. And the human was scared, Loj could smell it. Yet still the blows rained upon the near hapless man.

Loj expected a counter, which he easily parried aside before placing a hard headbutt, stunning the man to the brink of unconsciousness. And in that same motion he struck, body shifted slightly to the left as he let the blade dictate it’s own swing, biting the man’s wrists.

He did not care for when the betleH fell or when he was declared victor. Cheers or jeers from the crowd were but the soft buzzing of insects to his ears, for after all that, it remained empty and the hunger still yearning.

The buzzing of the crowd dimmed as Loj strode, stinging pain still ringing clearly in his thigh, towards the wall of many betleHmey. He saw the half-Vulcan amongst the crowd, with some others but he ignored them as intensely as they focused upon him.

Pain or no, his blade would find its mark upon them should they approach him now - or whenever. Hunger fed and void filled just the same in either case.

Sweat glistening arms covered in dark cloth hung his weapon up upon the wall. Its new position now indicative of who he was to fight next. Not that he cared much of it.

Picking a spot in the crowd - far from those that stalked him - Loj proceeded to rest upon an empty seat some ways off from the tournament mats, unaware of the mended wound that once rang on his thigh.
