Talora vs. So'l
« on: Feb 16th, 2005, 4:24pm »

<Fighting ring>

Talora stood in the fighting ring, stretching, waiting for her opponent.  She had never met the man named "Sol Mackenzie" before, howeevr she did some research before coming to the battle.

Her Bat'leth, shiney and proud, sat by the edge, as Talora continued to stretch.  Her Honor Blade was in her hand, the short, sleek dagger, flying through the air.  Even though she would not use it during the battle, it kept her hands nimble and quick.

Her opponent entered the room.  Talora saw the lean, small Klingon come in, Bat'leth in hand.

Talora: *extending her hand* You must be So'l Mackenzie.  I am Talora.

So'l: nuqneH.

Talora: So?  What shall it be, So'l?  First one to be knocked down three times?  First blood from the torso?

So'l: First blood sounds perfectly reasonable, Talora.

Talora: Agreed.

Talora readied her bat'leth and looked at her opponent, who did the same.  They stood in the proper fighting stance.

Talora: Defend Yourself!

The two began to circle each other.  Talora, holding the blade as her uncle had instructed, thumbs outward, making gentle swinging motions in unison with her opponent.

She was the first to strike.  She moved in close with remarkable grace and speed, and swung the left end of the blade at the Klingon.  Just as rapidly, he moved and parried with the centre of the bat'leth, followed by a fast attack from the bottom.  Talora saw the attempted attack and jumped back, parrying.

Next, So'l made an attack, not entirely unlike Talora's first.  She moved out of the way, caught his bat'leth's tip with her own, and swung her Bat'leth around, hoping it would force his blade from his hand.  Instead, he kept a hold of it, and rolled, keeping it in his hand the entire time.  By the end of the maneuver, he had returned to his feet, blade in hand, and poised for the attack.

Talora:  Impressive.  *sarcastic and threatening* Now, Mr. So'l, shall we dance?

OFF: This was posted before I had a chance to respond to respond to the begining of the JP I was sent. Classes have just started up again this week, and I had some real life things to get out of the way before I could do recreation stuff like this. Posted below is what I responded to the JP with once the time was avalible, which was after this thread had been started (I went straight to my PM box, and didn't know this was here).

And for future referance, So'l doesn't say nuqneH.

The two fighters approached each other in the ring.

"You must be So'l Mackenzie. I am Talora." said the Romulan.

A hint of alcohol fumes reached Talora as So'l replied. “My name's So'l.”

The ref gave So'l a dubious glance as he read off the rules, the cadet didn't notice. He didn't appear to be noticing much of anything. The two fighters took their opening stances, the ref blew his whistle, and the match was on.

ON

The battle continued like this for many minutes, with one attacking, the other parrying.  Very few hits were made, and most of them weren't enough to break the skin.

During the next attack, So'l attempted again to strike at Talora's abdomen,. with greater fury than she would expect from a simple battle.  That's when she noticed something.

It seemed that every attack he made,he launched forward from his right foot.  If she could only take advantage of that...

Next time, though, she thought, as she needed to focus on deflecting the attack.  Talora's blade was locked with his for a moment, both pushing in with all their strength, hoping the other would fall.

Talora: You fight well, So'l.  I see now that alcohol does not impair a Klingon's ability to fight.   That explains much.

So'l:

Talora quickly ducked and pulled away, leaving So'l to go forward a bit under the weight of his attack.  He regained his balance, and poised for his next attack.  Talora knew what was coming.

With haste, as So'l pushed off his right foot, Talora knew to drop to the ground and swing at his left foot as he was in the air.  Forcing away his landing foot, So'l fell to the ground, and Talora took the moment to make the strike.

While her opponent was on the ground, with one quick motion, Talora made a quick cut to his torso, making certain no lasting damage would occur, but also making sure some blood was on her Bat'leth's blade.

Talora: First Blood.

She turned away from So'l, faced the ref, lifeted her bat'leth in the air and gave a loud yell of success.  She had won.

After the ref officially declared her victorious, she had turned to face So'l, who had slowly gotten to his feet.

Talora: *extends her hand* You fight very well, Mr. So'l.  I hope this is not the last time we meet in battle.  Maybe next time, we will face each other side by side.

Again, I was not consulted about the previous post, and again, it features my character doing things he would not do. I'm really quite angry about this, I feel myself and my character are not being treated respectfully. I'm not quite ready to assume that Talora is deliberately disregarding me for some unknown selfish reason, it seems more likely that she does not understand the concept of respecting other people's characters, and thinks she is behaving appropriately.

I'm really at a loss of how to deal with this.

OFF

Im sorry about not consulting you, but I we were requested to put the entire battle no later than this past wednesday at noon EST.  I, for one, am one for punctuality and cannot stand being late.  I began by sending the first JP, which received no reply until the deadline had past!  So I posted a beginning, which received a reply that almost went against the first post.  I made some changes to the original to account for your new words and lines, and then finished the battle.

I like being on time.  Nay, it's not that I like being on time, it's that I absolutely hate being late.  I was about to be extremely late, so I rectified the situation.

Im sorry if it conflicted with your character, but I have no frame of reference in this case.  Talora was supposed to evenly matched with So'l, and then take advantage of something.  That's what I did.

Once again, I apologize for posting anything So'l would never do.

Cheers,

-Andrew aka Talora

Yea, I know. I'm a real son of a b!tch for putting work and school ahead of play.

Even if a deadline had passed- which I disagree with you about- that doesn't excuse posting my character without even giving me a chance to review it. That's one of the most important rules of BF, and there is never an excuse for violating it.

I am locking this and the judges will discuss how to avoid this sort of thing in future tourneys.

This is basically the worst case scenario.  Both players being slow to communicate and misunderstandings happening.

Lets just move on and try to prevent it in the future.  Please, everyone in the tourney check your email and your PMs here at least once a day.

While you are in the combats, contact your next opponent early and avoid posting anything for them.  Worse case, just do a post starting with your actions and reactions after the combat is over.
