ON:

Tauvits sank down onto his chair behind the desk in his quarters on Xavier, subtly locking the door behind him to prevent any intrusions. Although he had faith in the people he would communicate with to remain subtly and undetectable, he was still aware of the fact that a simple eavesdropping of the non-technical kind could throw a spanner into the works. Discretion was the name of the game.

So he keyed the screen to life, and was rewarded with the Federation symbol changing to show the slightly off-centre figure of a man in neat civilian clothing which put Tauvits' dusty jacket to shame, shifting about before the screen to settle in front. "Ah, Blue. Good to see you. Nice to know you return my calls."

"Well, you know how it is, Chris. I just can't control the excitement I feel at the idea of hearing from you," Falco deadpanned, raising an eyebrow across the communication at his old friend.

Captain Chris Sanders smirked faintly, reaching forward for a moment. The image shifted, then was oriented upwards slightly as he adjusted the height for his lofty frame on his end. "How're you doing with the tournament, then, Falco?"

Tauvits grimaced, gingerly touching the bruise on his forehead from his defeat. "Not well. Already been taken down in the second round. A fall from third place to... oh, being lost in the masses. Quite depressing."

Sanders waved a hand dismissively, but not unsympathetically. "You've seen more than most of these buggers in real combat. I bet few of them have taken on three Klingon pirates single-handedly."

"Single-handedly?" Tauvits raised an eyebrow. "As I recall, you were shooting at them rather angrily."

"Just support. Still outnumbered in close-quarters combat," Sanders commented, as if his contribution was irrelevant.

"And Lockley was right there with me with that pair of Daqtaghs he still keeps as souvenirs. So that's three on three. And you act surprised that I did alright? I think I'm offended, Sanders." Again, Tauvits' tone was a deadpan.

Sanders grinned at last. "Just trying to help contribute to the image. People are more scared of you if they think of you as some conquering, vengeful fellow driven violently mad in his plight against pirates. People don't feel sorry for the pirates, but they don't want to cross you."

"But when it's you and I talking, you don't need to glorify me. It gets creepy." Tauvits leaned back in his chair. "What can I do for you, anyway? You suggested this was... important. I assume you have more on Forrest?"

"Yes." Sanders nodded. "I assume you've located him on board?"

Tauvits returned the nod. "Wriggled the location of his quarters out of a quartermaster last night. He's here, I know where to find him. Question is, should I, or will you be sending the boys in gold over and save me the trouble?"

Sanders grimaced, obviously shifting PADDs about off-screen. "Well, most of his connections are of the 'true yet unproven' flavour, which Security is REAL happy about. Every time anyone tries to investigate him or his files, a higher-up swoops in and stops them. You know Forrest has been a desk jockey his entire life? The favourite of some Admiral, and he's a senior advisor to Starfleet Security. All down to favouritism."

"You're just encouraging me to kill him, Chris."

Sanders smiled thinly. "It's hard to pin down anything. I did, however, get some people to poke around in his computer files. Nothing legal, so nothing we can bring up in a court of law, and something they would have my behind kicked out of the fleet for if these favouring higher-ups knew about it."

"And if you were officially 'fleet," Tauvits said.

"That too." Sanders nodded. "But Cyrus Doyle really wasn't kidding around with Forrest's affiliations with his kid brother. I got to the man's accounts... when Marcus Doyle died, a whole lot of his network fell apart, and has been falling apart since we took down the Blades, because his base of support has faded. Fronts for funding which were once secure have since been proven as being his alternate identities. Forrest's had an awful lot of transactions with many of them."

Tauvits frowned. "That sounds suspicious alone. I assume you want me to deal with him?"

"I'd like it." Sanders grimaced. "Falco, you know I can't officially sanction you to take action. Even under the flag of Theseus. You get a lot of lee-way on this mission, but if you step out of line Command WILL come down upon you. People are worried as it is that you'll stop playing pirate and turn serious. You have a neat deal here, with Starfleet funding, and only so long as I vouch for you one hundred per cent can you be guaranteed a Get Out of Jail Free card. Don't make me worried about what you're doing."

"So what do you want me to do?" Tauvits frowned. "I have to do something to please Cyrus Doyle. This could be our foot in the door. If I kill Forrest for him, we could see the Coalition collapsing within a MONTH."

"You are optimistic, I think, but your point is valid." Sanders nodded. "I never told you that I think it might be good if you snooped around more and anonymously linked information to security. I never told you that I think Commander Forrest is a scum-bag Starfleet would be well-rid of.

"But if it went to trial, he'd be locked up for a good while. Not killed." Sanders looked at Tauvits warningly.

"I'll use my own judgement. Thanks." There was a discreet pause as Tauvits regarded Sanders. "Is there anything... particular in the files regarding his involvement in what happened to the Thunderchild?" He sounded nervous just asking.

Sanders grimaced. "There's a lot of funding going into his account before the disaster. And, also, before the disaster, some funding - not as much, half the amount, in fact - going out of his account and into one which we suspect may have been used by the Kahless Blades. Nothing conclusive."

Tauvits' expression closed up. "Conclusive enough," he mumbled. "I'll deal with the man, don't you worry, Chris. He won't be an informant sitting in the lap of Security for much longer. I can guarantee it."

"Falco, you go off the rails and I CANNOT protect you," Sanders warned harshly. "You go vigilante against him and you WILL be arrested and the Theseus mission shut down. You hear me? You can't do your heroic justice-against-the-system gig this time. If you must act, act in Doyle's play. Hear me?"

Tauvits scowled, his expression darkening further. "I hear you. I'll... look into it. However much I can. Thanks, Chris." He reached out to turn the screen off.

"Wait." Falco raised an eyebrow at him. "There's one more reason I need to talk to you. It's about your daughter."

Tauvits leaned back, his angry expression fading to a worried one. "Clare? What's happened?"

Sanders grimaced, now looking even less happy. "We think she might be a target for someone amongst the remnants of either Marcus Doyle's group or someone with connections to the Kahless Blades. Someone trying to get at you."

Tauvits paused, glaring at a spot just above the screen for a few moments. "Can't you have people look after her? Watch her?" he asked tautly.

"We can. I just don't like her being on Earth. She's got your house, and your flat in San Fran, but she's still mostly on her own, and Earth's a busy place."

"What about Lara?" Tauvits folded his arms across his chest. "I'll get her to look in on Clare more."

"Your sister's got a JAG assignment elsewhere. And she's solid, I trust Lara, of course I do. But she's still a very busy woman with her own problems. It's not just a matter of her dropping in on Clare in the evenings, I don't like her being alone." Sanders took a deep breath, preparing for the inevitable explosion his next words would bring. "I want her to go back to Tina."

The explosion came, but subtly. Tauvits stared for a few seconds, his expression disbelieving, before he finally spoke. When he did, his voice sounded like hot needles plunging into flesh. "You want to send Clare back to my psychotic ex-wife where she can try to shape her mentally AND physically into some sort of CREATURE just as depraved as her?"

Sanders winced. "When you put it like that, Falco, I find it hard to believe you two are divorced," he said, shifting down in his chair. "But you have to understand, Clare would be safe with Tina."

"From criminals, maybe. From Tina? No. If I had to choose between my daughter being vulnerable to vicious, dangerous, vengeful mercenaries and pirates and being vulnerable to my wife, I'd pick the pirates any day of the week. And what's perhaps more telling is that I think Clare would choose the same thing." Tauvits rubbed his temples weakly. "I can't bring her on to the Theseus. That'd just be like throwing her into broken glass. But she's old enough to have a degree of choice as to what she wants to do."

"I wouldn't tell her about the risk until you know what do." Sanders sighed. "I can bring her underground if it's really, really necessary. But I know you want her to have some semblance of normality." He looked around. "Find me someone who you trust whose care she can be placed under, and I'll make it happen in terms of security, if necessary."

"I'm low on people I can trust, Chris. You're not safe, neither am I. Lockley's not viable, and neither's O'Neal. Everyone else I can REALLY trust is either on the Theseus, or dead, or, for about the two or three people who are left, they're not viable in other ways. Petersen does border patrol along Chak space, for Christ's sake, I might as well shoot her myself as send her there." Tauvits sank in his chair, scowling in defeat and concern.

Sanders shrugged helplessly. "Get me somewhere she can be by the end of this tournament, Falco, or I'm going to have to send her underground. Unless you want her to wind up dead."

"Of COURSE I don't want her to wind up dead!" The explosion came at last as Tauvits jerked upright, sounding just as afraid as angry. "I'm not losing her on top of... everyone else." He glanced away.

"Not... not everyone." Sanders frowned. "Did Tilia explain things to you?"

"Some." Tauvits shifted. "I never claimed to understand that Prophet stuff. Is it science?"

"In a way." Sanders shrugged. "I sent her to the Theseus because I knew she could help you. I know what you're like. She grounds you. You need that. Don't push her away. That could screw up your mission as much as yourself. And you know that's unacceptable."

Tauvits smiled humourlessly. "Of course, it's all about the mission." His words were sincere, and he nodded slowly. "Alright, Chris, I hear you. I'll look into Forrest, and have a think for Clare. And, I promise, I'm done kicking Tilia out. Whatever stands between us, I promise to at least listen to her."

"Good. I need you sane. And for that I need your mission working, your daughter safe, and your mental state taken care of." Sanders grinned encouragingly. "Take care, mate. I'll be in touch. Sanders out."

Tauvits sank back in his chair, scrubbing his face with his hands as he collapsed into silence for a few long moments. Once upon a time, he'd come to the betleH tournament as a holiday. Not anymore. Now, it was a job for him. Not competing just meant that he had fewer distractions from focusing on what was REALLY important here.

So he decided to head to the bar, for tonight, to have a think and do some asking around and see if he could deal with the issue of his daughter. Forrest could come in the morning. Clare was far more important.

But who the hell could he entrust a difficult, independent, and endangered seventeen year-old to in a galaxy of dangers with few friends and many people who'd love to kill him and anyone connected to him?

This was the question he pondered as he sat in The Lounge with a pint of the finest bitter he could find on tap up there, the burdens on his shoulder a lot heavier as they had been the day before, thinking and keeping an eye out for anyone who might appear and magically provide a solution.

Or just anyone who might appear and get drunk with him.

I assume you meant The Legion and not the Lounge Wink

Hask Gheuty was in bad, bad need of a drink.  He'd been the busiest he'd ever remembered the past few days but now the greying Tellarite dock master had a repreive and he intended to take advantage.

He sat down at a stool along the bar and ordered a glass of Saurian brandy and drank it all down at once before nodding at the bartender, who'd not yet had a chance to leave to poor another.  He took a sip and turned to the blue skinned fellow beside him.

Gheuty: Hask Gheuty's the name, drinkin's the game.  What do ya call yourself?

Oh, I think I meant the lounge, but capitalisation went mad.

ON:

Tauvits glanced up as the bar-stool next to him was taken, but returned to sip his drink as he failed to recognise the man. He heard the order for a brandy, smirked into his beer as he heard the drink disappear quickly and the demand for a second be placed, and glanced up again as he was finally addressed.

Tauvits: Drinking? A good idea for a game, indeed.

He shook Gheuty's hand firmly before taking a large gulp of his bitter and setting it down on the bar, enjoying this drink probably more than the whiskey of the previous day.

Tauvits: Pleased to meet you. I'm Tauvits. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you the dock manager on this monstrosity? I bet you've had fun dealing with the traffic this tournament has produced. It's pretty mad out there...

A voice spoke from behind.

"Wouldnt you think that the Dockmaster responsible for angering half the klingons on statation would be hiding somewhere other then the most frequented watering hole on this base?"

Tauvits considered this one briefly, before turning around, and calmly taking a large gulp of the warm bitter once more. "Perhaps. Or maybe he's not one to cower from Klingons. Not everyone is." He grinned at last, giving a deep nod to Ta'pez as he stood there. "Good to see you again, HoD. It's been too long. And I believe there's a man in your house to whom I owe my sincerest thanks...?"

Ta'pez chuckled he was clearly glad to see the blue creature. "His name is PoQ, and i believe he wanted to see you aquire another scar."

Tapez proceeded to join them. "Perhaps you should come to K'Hithomer next year and let my master bladesmith make you a true blade."

"If I have the time." Tauvits looked wistful. "My senior staff bought me that blade. Though I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that it was of a poor quality when I consider that my old bartender acquired it for me. He probably bought something he was sure would be 'acceptable' and pocketed the extra credits. Always his way." He shook his head nostalgically, before taking another gulp of his bitter and shaking his head firmly. "Doesn't matter, anyway. A relic of a dead past is gone. I'll survive. But I will need a new blade. Maybe it's for the best I'm not in the tournament any more."

He nodded to Ta'pez firmly. "I saw your match, against G'Trell. Very impressive. She was a fine fighter in my round against her last year - better than I, in all honesty - and she's only improved. A great fight."

"That bardender didnt happen to be related to a ferengi?" Ta'pez replied with a chuckle.  "Speaking of bartenders."  He turned towards the human behind the bar. "Bring me some REAL bloodwine." he  said tossing a few strips of latinum onto the table.

"Do they do real Bloodwine here? I'll say the Terran bitter's rather fine, dark and strong, but it doesn't knock me over like the proper Klingon Bloodwine does." Tauvits grinned thinly, gulping down even more of his pint.

He shifted around to glance at Ta'pez evaluatingly. He didn't know him very well, save the one match last year, drinking afterwards, and that fateful final match which had confused him more than anything else. Still, his respect for the Klingon warrior was intact.

"How's life been treating you over the past year, then, HoD? The meH'Haj and her crew still intact?" He raised the pint glass to his lips again.

"The meH'Haj is fine, and her crew is doing well." Ta'pez replied. "In fact I will walk upon the dreaded bridge in a few days time, she will be here soon."

The bloodwine Keg was brought, a fairly small keg, but a keg none the less and a couple mugs followed. Ta'pez eyed the bartender was done and then threw a few more strips of latinum.

"However recently my fortunes have been mixed.  This tourney has become a blessing and a curse in one." he added while pouring himself a full tankard.

"Oh? For me it's been more of an embarrassment. Say whatever you like about honour being in how well you fight, to tumble from third place to being lost in the masses in the second round is... not the personal growth over a year I had hoped for." Tauvits didn't allow himself to consider that there wasn't much of the personal growth he'd had over the year which he was hugely fond of.

"Alright, then. Blessing and curse in one. Which first?" He waggled his pint at Ta'pez in a manner which made it clear he would suffer no resistance to his inquisitive alcoholic nosing.

"Watching my enemies squirm for one" Ta'pez said. " learning that K'Hare is romulan  was a very pleasant suprise. Finding my father murdered was not."

Ta'pez emptied the near full tankard in one swoop after mentioning that.

Tauvits blinked, and looked deep into his own pint. The faint remnants of foam refused to give him any sort of answer. The head of the House of Chang dead? K'Hare a Romulan? Grief and... confusion. Tauvits was familiar with both, though the latter seemed to be its very own special brand. He decided to settle upon the first issue for his reply.

"I'm sorry to hear that," he said sincerely, sipping his bitter. "What happened? I'm assuming that vengeance upon whoever's responsible will be swift, brutal, and bloody." He said all of this in the same sincere tone. Revenge was something he could relate to.

Ta'pez was overcome with murderous rage not directed at Falco or the Dock master but rather at the assasins and his eyes showed it. "That revenge will be one that stories acrross the empire will be told about, even Kang would aprove. (see reference below).

Ta'pez continued to answered the  the question  with a level if forcefull tone. " I was attending the meH'Haj dinner when K'Hare was revealed to be a romulan."  Ta'pez  chuckled derisivly."You should have seen the face of that biggot learning that his own blood was soiled with romulan heritage."

"That would indeed be... ironic," Tauvits conceded, more neutrally. "He didn't know? That's a rather... interesting turn of events." He sipped on more of his bitter, the pint of dark liquid now almost empty. He could certainly feel a taste for another pint coming on.

"Certainly not something I would have expected. I'd assume this would have rather perilous political ramifications as well. His reputation affected. His station uncertain?" Ideas that had formed in his head all of a sudden were slowly threatening to crumble. Could K'Hare provide refuge and protection, or are his days in a position of authority and stability numbered? he wondered.

" I do not know of  whether or not the KDF will do anything about the fact that he is romulan. Hiding this fact might cause them to do something about it, but that is something for the Imperial Intelligence to determine." Ta'pez said and showed a mug towards Falco whose empty beer glass was screaming for attention.

Tauvits' reaction of picking up the fresh mug was automatic, despite his considerations in regards to Bloodwine and the affect it had on his vertical status. He took a large gulp, paused with the liquid still in his mouth as he allowed his taste buds to realise he wasn't drinking bitter anymore, then swallowed, and nodded at the vintage. He doubted he'd be up to see any of the early morning fights tomorrow.

"What brought on this discovery?" he asked. He knew that the fair thing to do would be to ask K'Hare himself of the matter, and he would, but he was happy to delay decency a conversation or so for the sake of establishing a safe place for his daughter. The lad S'ol had spoken well of what was offered to students at Klach D'kel Brakt, and Tauvits could see the plan being ideal. Unless Ta'pez predicted a sudden collapse of K'Hare's powerbase and status, in which case more exploration of the situation would be required. "I mean, I doubt it just came out because the man had too many mugs of Bloodwine..."

"It was discovered by accident. K'Hare had accused me of hiding my true self and I answered by telling who I was and what heritage was flowing through my veins." Ta'pez replied sipping on his wine in the process. " One of the federation qels had scanned me to confirm my tale as a son of Klingon and betazed parents. Since K'Hare was right next to me the Qel scanned him aswell."

"Your tale?" Tauvits asked with surprise, before common politeness could remind him that interrogating drinking buddies was not always deemed acceptable. But instead of backing off, he decided to simply soften the intrusion. "And if it bothers you, you're sitting with a blue-skinned man who's stuck in between two species. I got over judging on this sort of thing over forty years ago." He grinned, in that faintly silly way of his he had discovered was disarming some time ago and had proceeded to thus promptly over-use, though this time he ensured the sincerity of his words remained.

Ta'pez chuckled. "I never realized how tolerant curious Andorians could be."

He topped off  Falco's mug and continued.

"Well my maqoch, where shall I start." Ta'pez said. "K'Hare had learned a while ago of my betazed heritage and sought to blackmail me with that knowledge since not many beyond my House know of my biological parents." Ta'pez continued. " Apperently he thought I would hide in the manner he has hidden his own heritage."

Ta'pez interupted his telling while a klingon was getting some drinks from the bartender. Once this newcomer was gone he continued.

"I have nothing to loose, my house and those above me know of it." Ta'pez said " He on the other hand did not, not even his cha'DIch knew of it. I assume he will have to do a lot of explaining now to those who had interest in his success."

Tauvits nodded in gratitude at the refill, but was not unobservant of the pause in conversation with the Klingon passing by the bar. "Curious news indeed. I would imagine K'Hare is not taking the news well." He eyed Ta'pez evaluatingly for a moment. Traces of non-Klingon blood were not visible to him, but some trace of telepathic or empathic awareness would, most likely, be present with Betazed blood. This was, perhaps, even more curious an attribute with a Klingon warrior.

"Do you consider his future to be stable?" It was, Tauvits reasoned, a question which could be about more than just his daughter. Klach D'kel Brakt was close enough to the Triangle to concern the Theseus' operations; a commander of the base other than K'Hare would be an additional concern for his mission.

But right then, he would settle for Ta'pez's opinion of the situation. He himself found it dimly amusing that these two rivals, when discovering a similar foundation upon which they both stood in a sea of differences, could see nothing more than how to use it against each other, and were unable to even consider bridges.

"Nothing is certain these days," Ta'pez said " he is a  strong and deadly warrior yet noone has trust in him."

He took a big gulp and continued. " A double of him is prowling the sectors close to the romulan border and Klach D'kel Brakt itself. His boss wanted to arrest him because they though he was the double, you cannot work or trust with such a warrior."

Ta'pez knew he hadn't answered the question directly, but then again he didnt need to.

"A double?" Tauvits again consulted his drink for some advice. Although the Bloodwine appeared more understanding than the dark ale had been earlier, enlightenment was still not found in the drink. Perhaps at the bottom of the mug.

As he swallowed the next gulp, he mulled over the situation further. "Very curious times indeed. I think I shall have to have a word with the good totlh." He supped on his bloodwine further. "And you? I cannot imagine matters to be easy with discoveries being made and what has happened with your father." Tauvits gave Ta'pez a firm nod. "I am sure you have many strong warriors at your disposal, but if you ever require my assistance in hunting those responsible for his death, or wreaking bloody vengeance upon them, I have some experience with such matters. Especially the latter." His curiosity was sincere, as was his offer, but shifting away from the topic of K'Hare would probably also be wise at this juncture.

"My house will gather soon and we shall pursue the matter in the gravest manner possible." Ta'pez said. "I have heard of your aquisition of the Thethus, such a ship might come in handy for things that my house might not be able to do on its own."

Ta'pez stopped and motioned to the bartender. "Brings us some Heart of targ for my friends here, and make sure there is some Racht after that."

He turned back to Falco. " I apreaciate the help, and if there is need for you to seek help, remember me."  he said with a look of an agreement in his eyes.

Tauvits smiled thinly. "I wouldn't be so quick to make such a statement. I might just take you up on that offer when I've investigated some business I have here."

Then he paused, considering what had just said. "Racht... that's like gagh, but bigger, right?" He took a hefty gulp of bloodwine before the rather more important consideration had sunk in. "And heart of targ? Well... I've never tried that before." It was the best diplomatic answer he could summon. "Should be interesting." Tauvits blinked in confusion at the culinary delights it seemed he was about to be subjected to. Perhaps, with a little more bloodwine, he might cope with the wriggling.

" I might be making a mistake in ordering klingon food on a federation starbase," Ta'pez said " but I am sure that offering you a helping hand is not something I will come to regret."

Ta'pez said taking up his tankards. "Cheers"

"I'm not a connoisseur of Klingon food, just so you should know. Wriggling dinners are a novelty to me. But I'll try my best. And wash it down with plenty of bloodwine, mark my words." Tauvits happily clinked tankards with Ta'pez, looking mildly apprehensive as the food, probably replicated or drawn from suspicious stores, was brought out.

He eyed it all dubiously.

"How the hell do you eat this stuff?"

"With your hands!" Ta'pez roared in laughter and then dug into the targ meat.

He chewed on it for a while on it then said. "Not quiet as good as a klingon would prepare it but then again - not quiet as bad as some Federation might prepare it."

He moved the plate with it forward towards Falco. "Try it, and if it gets stuck in your throught do as i do now." tapez continued and then emptiet the tankard.

"Plenty bloodwine needed, then," Tauvits said, eyeing the targ meat, and knowing he really couldn't possibly decline unless he wanted to make an impressive faux pas. Or at least cause unnecessary offense.

C'mon... you've never tried it before! It might be great! You ate haggis, for God's sake, what's a little Klingon cuisine going to do to you? Your stomach's already solid through excess whiskey and has been lined with bloodwine. What could go wrong?

So he followed Ta'pez's lead and grabbed himself a handful of the meat, shoving it into his mouth and setting about chewing before he could allow himself to think. It was a little chewy, forcing him to work on it for a short time and allowing him to savour the taste, which wasn't as terrible as he might have guessed. Still, if sober, he wasn't sure he'd have dared to get this far, and although it demanded a little more bloodwine to wash it down, it was fairly edible for a half-empty stomach after a long and trying day.

"It's good," he said when he finally had an empty mouth, and was surprised to find he didn't have to lie through his teeth to say it. Maybe extend the meaning of 'tolerable' about as far as it could go, but fuelled by alcohol, he could have done a good deal worse, and decided to punctuate his approval with another handful, which went down a little easier than the last.

Ta'pez was impressed by the Andorian halfling. He could clearly feel the Falco's disguist and yet  here he was eating and bearing his  his burden rather impressivly.

"Drink some bloodwine my friend, it will make it go down easier." Ta'pez encourage the blue man.

"I'm not going to argue with that." Tauvits raised the tankard with both hands and drained half of its contents in one go. His posture had been slightly slumped for a short time now, and although he hadn't faltered with words or movements they were both becoming increasingly deliberate, his concentration to remain in control rather clear. He didn't have a match tomorrow. He could get as hungover as he liked.

"Now, this Racht stuff, looks interesting..." He picked up one of the large worms, observing it writhing for a moment before he felt his stomach trying to compete with it, and shoved the thing in his mouth rapidly. Once it had stopped moving, that went down fairly smoothly as well.

"I think I'm getting the hang of Klingon food. Get it before it gets you, right?" He chuckled faintly, returning to the slightly safer heart of targ, which didn't taste so bad as his mouth was being numbed with alcohol.

K'Hare spotted his blue friend and wasn't going to let his poor choice in company stop him for talking to him.  Besides, someone had just announced they were covering all the drinks tonight... what more could a Klingon need?

He walked over to the mongrel pair and started to interrupt when he realized, in some sense, he was one of them.  That realization could have made him sulk off but he was spotted, and he was determined to be in a good mood.

"Falco of House Tauvits, my fine bolian friend.  How are you?   Someone has just volunteered to cover the drinking tonight... shall we make them regret it?"

"K'Hare!" It was entirely possible Tauvits' reaction to the other Klingon's arrival was a little unnecessarily enthusiastic. "It is good to see you, my friend! Have a seat!" He gestured promptly to a spare bar stool, his expression suggesting he wouldn't take no for an answer.

"We seem to have an awful lot of targ heart and some Racht, which as far as I can tell is gagh on steroids, and is twice as angry about being eaten. I don't know, we don't have this food where I come from - the Bolian homeworld, of course. However, your talk of free drinks intrigues me. I'm running low on bloodwine." He wasn't, not when he spoke; but he certainly was when he next lifted the tankard for a hefty chug.

Ta'pez had said nothing so far but mererly watched the newcomer, it had been so long that and K'Hare  had been enemies that he was unsure how to act now that K'Hare held no grudge. What he had not decided was whether Ta'pez was ready to forgive K'Hare for the many insults and petty stings both of them had done.

Tauvits' tankard came clattering down onto the bar, and he gestured at the bartender until a refill came along, which he took another generous swig from. "So, tell me, mate, how're things your end? I mean, with judging this tournament and all, that's got to be pretty mad, but Klach D'kel Brakt? How's that monstrosity working out for you?" His pronouncing of Klingon words suffered somewhat for the alcohol, as did any subtlety now that his intention to establish K'Hare's suitability for dealing with his daughter's safety was settled.

Ta'pez couldnt not hold a smirk away from his lips. Whether intentional or not Tauvits was walking into a finely crafted embarassment for K'Hare. To hear him speak of the recent events would be most enjoyable.

He grabbed his tankard and drak hopping his composure would return by the time he was to lover  it.

Q'olavraH had gone and retrieved the girl from Sickbay.  They were being followed by QaraH and a Federation security officer as well.

She took the girl first to the betleH arena and they watched several of the female fighters practice with the males either fighting against them or cheering them on in their work.

The child watched with rapt attention.  Gasping once or twice in her excitement.  Q'olavraH merely watched her, gauging her reactions and finding that she couldn't wait to start teaching the girl how to weild the betleH and the meqleH.

They watched for a while and then Q'olavraH heard her own stomach growl.  "Come wovqut.  K'Hare awaits us for the evening meal."

The girl, being reminded that they were to meet her father's double tensed and her hand trembled as she put it into Q'olavraH's.

"Do not worry.  You will like him.  He looks a bit different than your father, but there are simularities as well.  And K'Hare tells wonderful tales.  He will probably ask you questions, do your best to answer them honestly."  Q'ol told her as they walked.

The girl nodded.  "I am not frightened.. much.  My father changed after mother went away."

Several memories flashed through Q'ol's mind.  Things that Khoal had put there.  She could not supress some of it, but the memories were getting clearer and falling into order somewhat, though there was still much to confuse her.

They entered the establishment that she and K'Hare had agreed on.  She had not seen him since she had told him the tale of the kidnapping, so she herself was not certain what to expect.

She spotted K'Hare and caught his eye.  She had no desire to go anywhere near ta'pez so she and the girl moved toward a more private setting while she waved at a wait person and told them she needed bloodwine and a mug of 'awje' for wovqut.

OFF: Tag K'Hare.

OFF:

Tauvits is off for the night so I will post for him here, just a bit, to make this scene flow right.

ON:

"The judging of the tourney is actually a welcome burden, but there are little details, a horde of small things that always take up too much time.  As for the base, the answer is mostly the same but I have grown into the duty.  I do miss the days on the Hegh'ta though."

K'Hare spotted the pair of females enter.  "I see my timing was poor.  I have a dinner appointment and I had hoped for more time to talk to you.  Perhaps later."

Tauvits looked over and recognized Q'olavraH but not the 8 or 9 year old child with her.  "Who is that?"

K'Hare frowned.  "It would seem she is the child of Q'olavraH and K'Hare..."  He laughed at the expression on the blue man's face.  "But the truth is far stranger then what you imagine.  I am still trying to understand it myself.  We will continue later."

Then K'Hare crossed the room and joined Q'olavraH and his 'daughter' for a private dinner.

K'Tar entered The Legion with his brother, G'Narr and sister, Baretha.  He had taken time to bandage the wound on his arm and the bleeding had stopped.  K'Tar was smiling as he entered and approached the bar.  "Bartender, get us some bloodwine!" K'Tar roared, slamming his hand down onto the bar and laughing.  "K'Tar, son of M'Rok is victorious!"

The bartender set down three large tankards of bloodwine as the pair of three grabbed them, taking a sip as they looked over the patrons of the bar.

"Have you heard anything of the House of B'reml?" K'Tar asked his sister.

"No.  Their purpose here still eludes us.  But if they dare to attack you, they will regret ever being born," Baretha said with a toothy and dangerous smile.

K'Tar smiled.  "Indeed, they will."

OFF:

Whoa, a man goes to bed and has a busy morning at work, then he's missed THREE PAGES OF POSTS SINCE HIS TAG??!?

Out of control -- good old Bat'leth tourney.

I'll do my best to fit this in, hopefully the comments from earlier in the conversation won't have interfered with what followed.

ON:

Quote:
"Wouldnt you think that the Dockmaster responsible for angering half the klingons on statation would be hiding somewhere other then the most frequented watering hole on this base?" said Ta'pez as he walked up to the bar from behind.

Tauvits considered this one briefly, before turning around, and calmly taking a large gulp of the warm bitter once more. "Perhaps. Or maybe he's not one to cower from Klingons. Not everyone is."

The Tellarite chuckled heartily, this was the sort of brashness that the Tellarites shared with the Klingons.  "Or maybe, you should be hiding from me?  If I'd even a touch of skill with the blade, I'd take the lot of you after the trouble you've caused me!  I'd think the ferry service I've set up for yas would make you quite happy indeed."

The Tellarite chuckled again as he listened to the two, who clearly knew each other from the past, catch up.

Another Klingon, called K'Hare, came and went telling an odd tale indeed.

Finally, the pig-like creature interjected as he ate some of the meal.  "This heart of targ is very good.  It reminds me of some Terran canine treats.  It's sad but they do not serve that here... it is very appetizing but the replicator cannot do it justice."

I apologise profusely for the actions of my character. I blame Ta'pez, for the bloodwine, and the Klingons in the corner, for starting the singing. Tauvits is an active drunk, and I'm sure he'd be very embarrassed if he were sober enough to see straight.

...also, the idea of Tauvits singing the Blues Brothers (or Spencer Davis, depending on your mood), was too funny to let go.

ON:

Tauvits grabbed his tankard of bloodwine again and reached across the bar for a refill, a little oblivious now to the conversation between Ta'pez and Gheuty after he'd lost some of his drunken momentum and after K'Hare's 'explanation' of who needed his presence more.

"...daughter of K'Hare and Q'olavraH... who's about eight or nine," he mumbled to himself, aiding the thought process occasionally with a gulp of bloodwine. "So that would mean, nine or ten years ago... the timer was started for my head to explode, around about now..."

Ironically, this coincided with the singing starting on the other side of the room, and Tauvits watched in absolute confusion as G'Trell, along with others he only recognised vaguely get up and commence the highly respectable feat of drunken singing, in Klingon, which he had to struggle to catch all of.

By the time they were done, his mind had gone completely on holiday and he had hopped up onto one of the low stools on a nearby table, bowing deeply and dramatically to the other table and almost losing his balance. "Finely sung, ladies," he declared smoothly. Or what he thought was smoothly. "But surely we can broaden horizons beyond the Klingon?"

He paused for a moment, rooting around in his repertoire for a song, before one finally emerged. It was just as well his singing talents weren't painful; nothing brilliant, but just enough so that he wouldn't embarrass himself. Further.

"Well my temperature's rising and my feet on the floor,
Twenty people rockin' and they wanna go more,
Let me in baby, I don't know what you've got,
but you'd better take it easy, this place is hot...

"So glad we made it
So glad we... Bugger!"

The last word wasn't in the song, for certain, but it was in Tauvits' vocabulary as, when he became far too involved in the song, the law of gravity finally became too much for him and he tumbled ungracefully from the stool to land in a heap on the floor.

The biggest miracle was that he didn't spill his bloodwine, and indeed found that a horizontal position was just as viable for the enjoyment of his drink, as he drained the tankard and slowly found he didn't have much inclination or ability to get up.

OFF:

Tags to any, he's just made a public fool of himself, I'm sure many have noticed.

Ness from the other side of the room watched Tauvits, someone he had heard of but never met before, and laughed.  He walked over, "nice performance, buddy."

Tauvits finally found the energy to sit up. This, of course, had nothing to do with the fact that he'd run out of bloodwine. He just felt like sitting up, that was all. And then clambering to his feet and looking anxiously back at the bar. All because he felt like it, of course. Of course.

Still, he focused on the man who'd approached him, who he didn't recognise, and grinned broadly. "Thanks. I thought it was. Next time, I'll pick a more stable stool." He nudged the offending piece of furniture with his foot. The stool sturdily resisted his efforts to move it.
