K'megh VS. Q'olavraH
« on: Feb 17th, 2005, 9:46pm »

ON:

Q'olavrah had spent the time after her first match trying to find out where K'rahl was.  No one knew.

She had contacted B'muan and spoken to her about the what had happened, though she had not told her most of it, only the basics.  She did not know why, but she wanted to tell K'rahl about wovqut before she told anyone else in his family.  She did not wish to conceal the existance of the girl, but she did not wish for her mate to find out from anyone but her.

She had seen and spoken to the children, who were now toddling around, mostly SuQqej chased maS'wovetlh as quickly as her little legs would take her, and on the rare occassions that she caught him, she would inflict some sort of wound with her teeth or nails.  For his part, maS' would push her away and carry on after she had plopped down on her behind and started yelling in a rage at him.  B'muan spent the better part of an hour telling Q'ol all that the children had been up to while Q'olavraH watched them in the background, wrestling and chasing the pet targh around.

Since last year's tournament she and K'rahl had seen very little of each other, and when they were together it seemed that they could not reach any accord on anything.

Q'ol's feeling of betrayal which stemmed from K'rahl's match with ta'pez was still within her, though she had tried to make it go away, had tried to talk to him, but he could not see past his own actions to understand why what he had done bothered her so much.

She had looked into several things about K'rahl's family as well, things that were not knowledge that any outsider could gain.  Things about the internal politics, the fact that they had their own network of spies, in particular she had examined all that she could find about K'trol, K'rahl's grandsire.  She did not like any of what she had found.  Stella could answer some of her questions, since Stella was one of the agents working for the house of K'brd'Lok.  That information had taken Q'ol months to ferret out, but she had discovered it, and now she had even more questions.

She could tell no one any of this.  Not even her friend K'Hare could she share this burden with.  It was not that she did not want to admit that she had chosen poorly, it was that once Q'olavraH made a vow, it was almost impossible for her to break it.

She knew that at his core, K'rahl was mostly an honorable male, but she feared that in some situations it would be to easy for him to push his honor aside in order to win.  He had proved it at the last tournament and then used the excuse that a tournament was not 'real'.

In her heart, Q'olavraH knew that she could not stay with him if that was proven to be the case.  Honor was honor and one did not bypass it for expedience.  Ever.

The memories of the other Q'olavraH and her death rolled over her and she let them as she sat there in the quarters she was supposed to have shared with her mate and children, alone.

With each remembered hit of the betleH of the other ta'pez, the scar on her body that matched it twinged as if the pain was being inflicted again.  She let it happen, she did not fight it, did not even try.  Q'olavraH, she and the 'other' had both fought with honor, neither had forsaken it.  Neither of them had been broken.

When she came back to herself she took a deep breath and felt the twinge of the ribs that the other K'Hare had broken when he had so easily and carelessly thrown her into a wall.  She still wondered if he had given her the chance to save his daughter or if she had only imagined it.

She stood and shook her head.  She should go and see if the girl could leave sickbay yet, see if she wanted to come and watch the match between Q'ol her next opponent.

She reached sickbay only to be told that the girl was having to endure several tests, but she was allowed to see wovqut for a while, and so she told the girl about the tournament so far and in describing her own non-match she had felt a tug at her heart when the girl laughed at her telling of how small and puny and scared the terran had been.. and then the look on his face when the betleH flew from his hands.

****

Now Q'olavraH stood in the ring after practicing with K'Hare's betleH for an hour, getting the feel of the heavier blade and modifying her style to compensate.

Now it almost felt natural to her.  She had recieved some strange looks on her way here, and so she was certain that word was out that she had brought back the child, and who's child it was.  She had heard the word Romulan in several whispered conversations but as she had drawn nearer to the speakers they had stopped talking.    She assumed they were talking about the other K'Hare.

Q'olavraH now stood in the ring, waiting for her opponent to show up.  She had decided to wear only a simple sleeveless tunic of tan leather, tan breeches and her combat boots with requisite toe spikes.  She wore no baldric, no pins or adornments this time.  She was simply Q'olavraH.

She had heard that her opponent was an honorable warrior, and she had read the bio that was provided to everyone at the tourney.  She continued to do a few simple figures with the betleH to keep her muscles warm as she waited.

OFF: TBC.. K'megh and I are writing it right now. Smiley

K'megh as donned his full battle gear. He wore his command uniform. He gripped his betleH by the middle handle. As he approached the ring he tossed it in the air then caught it with both of his hands. He began swinging it back and forth, in tactical movements. K'megh was confident that he'd be able to take Q'olavraH.

K'megh entered the ring and approached the center. He grunted and awaited her next movement.

Q'olavraH watched the male as he entered the ring.  He was confident.  He had more reach, and he was taller than she was by a few inches, and he looked formidable.  She quickly assessed her own tactical plan and decided that since she was using a heavier than normal blade she would let him set the pace.

"K'megh!  Fight well!" She gave him a grin to show him that she was ready and took a defensive stance as she began to circle.  She would treat this as if it was a spar between her and one of the weHwI' under her command, many of them much larger than she.

"As should you Soghla'! Qapla'!" K'megh took a fighting stance and began to circle in the opposate direction of his opponent. He was going to let her make the first move.

Q'ol grinned at the male and made a textbook feint to the right and then came in high with an attack that first year students at the academy learned.  She figured that between them, she and this male could give everyone here a very good example of how fighting with betleHmey should be done.

The two of them continued on through the forms.  She attacking, he blocking, and then they would change rolls and he would attack and she would block.

The blades of the two fighters made beautiful music as they clanged and slid, in perfect rhythm to the battle that they were engaged in.

The worked through the classic warm ups and then began sparing in earnest, watching each other for a sign of mistakes that they could exploit.  Almost by tacit agreement they moved into the style of qor and qolotlh.  Q'olavraH taking the part of qor and K'megh the part of qolotlh.

They were both sweating, grunting and laughing, clearly they were enjoying themselves as they passed from one discipline to another, neither making a mistake as they moved back and forth through the forms.

This was good practice for Q'ol with the heavier blade.  She decided they needed to work harder and so she subtly introduced specialized moves that the weHwI' used, and was not surprised when he began to falter, but his blocks were always there in time and so they continued, Q'olavraH only throwing in a new move now and then.  He would remember them for a later time, when his life depended on knowing them, and so they both benefitted from this.

K'megh was not happy with the female's greater skill, but she did not hide her intent and showed it to him clearly in her eyes just before she used a move she thought he would not know, and he was learning from this fight.  'Time to show her something new' he thought and whirled quickly, using an attack that was particular to his family, her blade made it up barely in time to block him.

Q'ol had almost been caught by his last attack, and her arms were begining to tire from the weight of this betleH.  When she blocked his move she noticed that he was slightly overbalanced on his left leg and so she continued her spin after the block and came inside his guard and then hooked his blade with hers, turned to face outward so that she was standing in the circle of his arms and thrust outward, ripping his betleH from his hands and sending it flying out in front of both of them.

She took a long, quick step out and pivoted to face him, just out of arms reach, holding the betleH she weilded at her side, sweat dripped from her and she was breathing hard.  "Well fought!"
