To Kill a Mocking Bird (or klingon in our case)...
« on: Feb 19th, 2005, 5:00pm »

((This happens before the morning matches))

After a few long hours have passed, T'Lai stirred and decided to head towards the bar to grab a bite to eat.  When she got there, she noticed that there wasn't too many people in there yet.  She shrugged at the thought for it was better than being too crowded.  She then walked over to the bar table and grabbed herself a plate of targ meat that was set out for the morning meal.  She then grabbed herself a pitcher of water and an empty glass and sat herself down at am empty table.  After she settled herself in, she began to eat her breakfast.

Taj approached T'lai's quarters. His tricorder said nobody was inside. He took off the door sensor panel, realigned some isolinear chips, and closed the panel. When he pressed the button, the door opened.

The first thing Taj noticed was a spot of blood on the floor on the one side of the room. He entered and began systematically searching around. He opened the drawers one by one. First drawer: empty. Second drawer: something but nothing incriminating. Third drawer: nothing of interest. The fourth drawer, when Taj opened, smelled foul. He found bloodstained armor inside. The blood was pink, definetly Klingon.

"This is definetly proof," Taj said to himself, "its different than the armor she wore to the matches. And no other blood has been spilled here as of late." Taj grabbed the armor and headed for PoQ's quarters. He pressed the door chime.

PoQ was inside writing his umpteenth report for today.

"Come in" he said.

The room was darkened and smelled of bloodwine and sweat, the old men had been here for too long.

"Father, I believe I know who killed Chang," Taj said proudly.

Tlai: PoQ looked up at his son.

"You do?" he asked somewhat guarded.

Taj held up the armor, "I found this today."

PoQ looked at him. "Where?"

"T'lai's quarters!" Taj said proudly, "this is not the armor she wore to the matches."

PoQ looked at him disaprovingly, but said nothing. "Bring it here."

Taj brought it to PoQ and handed it to him. Taj obliged and PoQ took out his hoqra'. "This is indeeds changs blood.  He looked up at Taj then back at the armor.

"Bring her to me. Say nothing of this." PoQ answered.

"I will, father," Taj said as he turned to leave.

:: OFF::  This is a JP between Taj, and T'Lai.

:: ON::

A short time later, Taj found T'lai at the bar. "Greetings, T'lai."

T'Lai had just took a bite of targ meat and finished eating it, when Taj approached her. After drinking some water, she looked up at him. "What do you want?" She asked. "I'm trying to eat." She said.

Taj sat down next to her and ordered some targ. He knew his was eating next to the person who had killed their joH, but he couldn't let her know that was why he was taking her to PoQ.

"Did I say you can sit there?" She snapped as she drank some water.

"This is a public bar," Taj answered as the waiter brought him his food

T'Lai snorted at him and finished the last bite of her targ. Not even bothering to wait for Taj, she stood up and left the table.

Taj left his plate and got up as well, "PoQ's quarters are this way."

"Well the restrooms are this way." She replied.

T'Lai shrugged. "What ever lets get this meeting done and over with." She told Taj.

Taj and T'lai walked to PoQ's quarters and Taj pressed the door chime.

:: OFF::

This is a JP between PoQ, Taj, and T'Lai, and Tapez.

:: ON::

The room was quiet. PoQ had notified Ta'pez of the events, not detailing the evoents but mererly letting him know that his new House member was in trouble and he should be there. Ta'pez had not commented but mererly aknoledged and said he would be there soon.

Taj and T'lai entered.

"Father, here is T'lai," Taj said

T'Lai was behind Taj, she kept quiet, for she felt there was something going on after the serious expression that PoQ was giving her.

PoQ looked up, He didnt say anything.

"PoQ, I brought T'lai as you asked," Taj said.

T'Lai smirked at Taj as he repeated himself. She was half tempted to tell him he had already said that and call him some childish name, but decided against it for it would have been inappropriate.

"I am not deaf or dumb." PoQ said to Taj.

He turned to T'lai. "And considering why you are here I dont see any reason why you are smirking like some half brained petaq!"

T'Lai looked up at PoQ. "And why am I here?" She asked.

He was growing angry with Taj. "Hold your tongue. BOTH OF YOU! Ta'pez will be here shortly, you all will find the time to tell him what you need."

That was enough for Taj. He shut up.

T'Lai stood straight up and glared at PoQ. She severely wanted to tell him off, but remembered what happened when she spoke when Ta'pez told her not to, so she remained silent.

The three of them stood for a while, the akwardness and anger boiling under the surface was making it all seem almost sureal.

T'Lai was struggling not to say anything till finally she gave in to the silent madness. "Will someone tell me what's going on in here already??" She blurted out. She then gasped and covered her mouth and backed away from PoQ.

"We will wait till Ta'pez is here." Ta'pez walked in a few minutes later. His face was non descript and his demeanor didn't tell much about his inside feeling. Those who knew him well would recognize the controlled rage, a trait that had been passed from Chang toTa'pez. A most dangerous and deadly silence.

:: OFF::

Yet another JP for your entertaining pleasures, brought to you by Tapez, T'Lai, Taj, and PoQ.  Enjoy!!

:: ON::

Ta'pez walked to PoQ, who handed him a hoqra soundlessly. Ta'pez didnt say anything and mererly read the report.

Ta'pez looked at PoQ, then Taj and finaly returned his gaze to T'lai.

T'Lai watched in silence as her HoD entered and walked over to PoQ. Her face was expressionless as he looked over at her.

"HoD," Taj began.

T'Lai glared at Taj. "He is not your HoD. Do not address him as so." She demanded in a harsh growl.

"It is his rank," Taj shot back.

T'Lai was going to call him a rather rude name, but she decided against it and looked at Ta'pez as though she were asking if she did the right thing by defending him.

"Silence!" PoQ spoke after unfurling the bag with the armoron his table. "I have tested the blood on this armor, it is that of Chang."

Ta'pez looked at PoQ with a stern glance which silenced the old man himself. PoQ continued in a much quieter tone.

T'Lai quirked a brow with confusion. She wasn't sure where he was getting with this.

Taj was clearly annoyed by how slow this process was going.

"Taj brought this armor to me" PoQ continued.

The attention of the room turned toward the young warrior. "Where did you find this armor Taj?"

T'Lai nodded. She continued to listen to what he had to say. Though it was becomming slightly evident that she was growing nervous as to what he was about to say.

"T'lai's quarters, sir," Taj replied proudly.

T'Lai's eyes grew wide. "THAT'S ABSURD!! I Never took Chang's things!!" She blurted out.

Ta'pez looked at him without emotion. "Was anybody else there when you did that?"

His hand was raised as he spoke motioning T'lai quiet.

"No, I was alone," Taj replied

Ta'pez was silent for a moment.

T'Lai remained silent and her gaze went over to Taj in a sharp and deadly glare.

"These are serious charges." Ta'pez said. " I am not the head of this house."

PoQ cleared his throught clearly objecting to this statement.

Ta'pez looked at him for a moment then continued.

"I would offer each of you to prove your honor and your skill with a challange" Ta'pez said. "but others not here might object."

PoQ stood up, "My SON is NOT A LIAR!"

T'Lai glared at PoQ. "And I am not a thief." She retorted.

Ta'pez turned around somewhat suprised at the old mans anger. " The council will gather tomorow, the House captains are on their way. We shall listen to their council tomorow"

PoQ glared at Ta'pez for a moment wishing to object but then changed his mind. "It will be so"

T'Lai glared at all three of them. It was evident that she wasn't happy with neither one of them. "And what will become of me while we wait?" She asked.

"You will not leave Taj out of your sight. If he attempts to leave kill him. " Tapez ordered.

PoQ glared, it was obvious that he disliked this development but Ta'pez stood fast and the old man knew that Ta'pez was following the ritual and tradition.

Ta'pez turned to Taj. "Should T'lai attempt anything similiar you shall make sure she fails. "

"Understood, HoD," Taj replied.

T'Lai glared at Taj. "Gladly." She sneared. She then looked up at Tapez. "Is that all sir?" She asked.

Ta'pez glared at her. "That is all."

T'Lai nodded.  She then turned to leave.  "Well come on, I have to practice for my next round." She told Taj.  "I am going with or without you." She commented.  She then waited for him to follow her out the door.

"I'm hungy," Taj said to T'lai as they were walking in the corridor, keeping an eye on each other.

T'Lai rolled her eyes.  "So deal with it." She snapped.  "I got to practice for my next round." She snapped.  Her voice was cold and harsh, as though she was ready to slice Taj in half with her Bat'leth

"I am going to the bar.  As you, a criminal, are not allowed out of my sight, you are coming with me," Taj said

T'Lai looked at him and crossed her arms.  "And who do you think you are telling me what to do?  I am older than you, there forth, what I say goes.  And I say I am going to go practice.  And who are you to call me a criminal when you're one too.  Or is breaking and entering not a crime in this world?" She sneared.  "Come with me to practice first, then you can eat till your hearts content."  She demanded.

"Fine," Taj said, "but you are still a murderer."

"And you're still a criminal." She retorted.

"I was conducting a murder investigation," Taj replied, "and if you have a problem with me searching your quarters, you must have known you had something to hide."

"What I have a problem with," She paused and faced Taj, whom was only a couple of feet away from her.  "Is the fact that you" She paused and poked him hard in the chest. She then continued. "Went through my stuff without my authority, and without your father's authority." She snapped.

"I suspected you," Taj said, "That is enough."

"If you wanted to 'investigate' you should have asked me permission to go through my things.  I would have gladly let you for I have NOTHING to hide." She said.

She then turned back around and began to walk down the hallway.  Before they knew it, they had arrived at the practice arena.

"Apparently, you did have something to hide," Taj said as he picked up his bat'leth.

"Oh did I?  Everybody in this house knows that I don't want to be here.  They know that I didn't get along with Chang too well.  And they know all about me.  Yet I know nothing about anybody in this STUPID.  RETARDED. House known as Chang!" She said in a loud tone of voice.  "I have nothing to hide if everybody knows everything about me.  It isn't FAIR!" She said as she withdrew her bat'leth.

"You had armor with Chang's blood on it in your quarters!" Taj shot back.

"Just because there was armor with his blood on it, doesn't mean that I put it there.  If you know anything about investigations, you should know that you NEVER assume anything." She snapped.

"Who else has access to your quarters?" Taj asked, "I broke in, yes, but I had to leave some tell-tale signs.  There were no signs of forced entry before I searched your quarters."

"You blindly accused me of something you know nothing about.  You only assumed because of my past history with Chang.  And, its none of your darned business who has access to my quarters." She snapped.  "You are a fool, not a warrior.  And for that." She paused for a brief moment and looked him down.  Her eyes narrowed to a dark and sharp glare that felt like ice going through your heart.  "I hate you." She growled.

Taj held up his bat'leth, "Want to express some of that anger?"

"T'Lai stood up straight.  "No.  Only a fool fights through anger." She said.

"Well, fight logically then," Taj said as he attacked.

Very quickly T'Lai blocked his attack and easily pushed him off her blade.

"I am still hungry," Taj said, "If you don't wish to fight, then we should go to eat."

"Oh so now you're too... what's that word that human used..." She paused a moment to think.  "You're too chicken to face me?" She said with fire in her eyes.

"Attack me and see how scared I am," Taj said.

No sooner had Taj finished his sentance, T'Lai swong at him swiftly and skillfully, aiming for his chest.

Taj blocked and twisted his bat'leth around hers.

T'Lai was taken back from the move, how ever as she lost grip of her bat'leth, she immediately rolled over and caught it then jumped up in a defensive position.  "Is that the best you got kid?" She asked.

"Not a chance," Taj replied, as he swung his bat'leth towards her neck.

T'Lai easily blocked the swing, and then swong at his right arm after she pushed him away from her again.

Taj barely blocked it.  "You're pretty good.  I can see how you would be able to manage to kill Chang," Taj said.

She then remained silent and swong at his other arm, not giving him time to block her next move.

The blade penetrated his left arm.  The pain seared through his nerves.  "You have no honor, T'lai.  You are trying to make it impossible to stop you when you run from me like a coward," Taj'vl accused.

T'Lai sliced his arm, but did not cut it very deep for she held her strength back for the young klingon, unsure of how strong he was.  "Stop what?  If I had no honor, I would have sliced your arm off." She said.

"Of course, then again you're right.  I have no honor.  There forth I am free.  I am free to do what is in my will and blood to do.  I can decide what is right and wrong.  Not Honor." She sneared.

Taj replied simply with a swing of his bat'leth.

T'Lai quickly blocked the attack.  "And besides.  I would never kill a man that is on his death bed.  That is just wrong." She said.

"I am not about to die," Taj said as he swung again.

"I was referring to Chang, you idiot." She said as she blocked his attack.

"We must go to sickbay," Taj said, "I need to be prepared to kill you if you betray us again."  He lowered his blade as he stepped out of the ring.

T'Lai rolled her eyes.  "You're no warrior.  You are a coward." She sneared as she stood there.

"You killed your joH because you disagreed with him.  You are no better than a Romulan," Taj sneered back, "I need to be prepared to kill you.  Though now that I think about it, We don't need to go to sickbay.  I could kill you with one hand any day."

T'Lai looked at Taj.  "If you kill me now, you will be killed too." She said coldly.  "Not by me or my minions,  But by my HoD.  For I didnt kill OUR JoH.  I have no reason to." She said, deciding to add some dirt into the hole that Taj was digging her in.

"Your history is well known," Taj retorted

"What does that have to do with this?  You know what.  I should have never came here in the first place.  Ta'pez was wrong.  He said I would be accepted into this house, but obviously I am not." She said.  She then threw her bat'leth down at the floor.  It slid across the floor and landed a few inches away from Taj's feet.  "Well, forgive me for even bothering to try.  And while you're at it, excuse me for even attempting to take Chang's advice.  I guess all you care about is my past.  All you want is for me to be dead.  So you can clame glory and be that 'warrior' you've always dreamed of.  You never seem to think about anybody but yourself." She said.  "No one even WANTS to try to get to know me now.  No one gives a crap about who I've come to be and how I'm trying to  gain people's respect.  You dont give a care that I am alive right now, and I am here right now, and I am willing to TRY to be apart of this family.  You dont even care that Tapez made me his first officer.  One of the most honorable positions aboard a starship when he could have easily thrown me in the brig and had me tossed in the stacades." She said.  Her voice was more hurt as she continued.

"I was willing to throw my life away to meet this family.  It's the only family I have.  Atleast you have a father you can turn to.  I have no one.  Weather or not you like it you're stuck with me.  So deal with it." She said.
"It is not effective to earn someone's respect by killing their joH," Taj said.

T'Lai looked at Taj with a very hurt expression and walked up to him.  She then slapped him harshly across his right cheek.  "How dare you." She growled.

Taj didn't respond.

"You have no honor." She said before heading towards the door.  "Let's go." She sneared, holding back her fiery anger.

Taj just followed silently.  He had a lot to think about.  The evidence was clear.  T'lai had murdered the joH.  But she didn't seem like a dishonorable murderer.  Did she kill Chang?  Was this all an elaborate act?  Or had he wrongly accused Ta'pez's first officer?
