Message from a forgotten friend

<<Taylor’s Quarters>>

The computer let out a shrill bleep informing Taylor that a new message had arrived for him; he groaned and turned over to look towards the clock. He barely managed to open his eyes before they snapped shut again. He had managed 2 hours of sleep before something awoke him, the computer let out another bleep which was followed closely by another groan from Taylor.

He threw back the covers turned his body and swung his legs over the edge of the bed. Sitting up he fought the urge to lie down again and close his eyes, instead he proceeded to rub the sleep from his eyes before slowly moving over to the desk in the room. “Coffee black” he said to the replicator, it hummed to life and materialised a cup of dark coffee in a standard Star Fleet mug. Taylor took a hesitant sip of the scolding hot liquid; it was enough to jar his senses in to action.

Reaching forward Dan activated the terminal on the desk, it slowly slid from its housing and displayed an authorisation required message “Authorisation Taylor Delta One Seven” said Taylor sleepily. He read the message header he quickly realised it was from an old friend, one he’d not heard from in months, what ever the message was about he knew it had to be important.

The mug fell from his hands as he read the first paragraph, boiling hot coffee ran down his leg and on to the floor. He ignored the searing pain focusing instead on the message before him, if it was true. Taylor's mind stopped, if the message was true it could mean many things not one of them could be considered good for Taylor or the Federation.

He stood up and grabbed a towel to wipe away the excess coffee, now fully awake he returned to the desk and the message displayed on the screen. Picking up a PADD Taylor began making plans.
