Kieran VS Q'olavraH
« on: Feb 22nd, 2005, 10:17pm »

ON:

Q'olavraH entered the arena with several others.  She knew that there would be many here to witness the next fights.  This was where things started to get interesting, and she could feel the excitement in her blood.

She was to fight Kieran, someone she was familiar with from the days when they were both on the Hegh leng.  They had trained together and he had always challenged her with his new ways of doing things, as she had challenged him with the skill of a battle hardened weHwI'.

They were evenly matched physically, she had more technical skill, but he had the gift of innovation.  It would be a good match.

She moved to the wall and took the borrowed blade and moved to a practice ring and began her warm up.  She wore the simple, unadorned black that she had chosen from the first of this tournament.  As she warmed up her thoughts were with her children and wovqut and all that had happened lately.

A JP from Ta'pez and Blue

ON:

Ta'pez entered the Arena and headed to the western stands. He had come to watch Q'ol battle and study, if she was to win  she would face him and Ta'pez wanted to study her tactics and see whether there was anything new that he should pay attention.

Tauvits was already there, sipping on a fresh cup of coffee and having obviously tried to claim a decent spot for the next match. He glanced over agreeably at Ta'pez as he saw him, and gave the Klingon a brief nod. "Here to see who you've got to fight next, HoD?" His voice was amiable, yet curious.

Ta'pez chuckled. "It is always a good fight when a fighter has insurmountable odds, few believers and a hopeless task ahead of him." He chuckled. "I believe humans would call him the underdog," Ta'pez continued, "Do you think  Kieran think of himself in that way?"

"Probably not. I never did when I was the underdog last year." Tauvits grinned, and sipped his coffee. "I do hope he gives her a run for her money. If only to stop it from being a dull fight."

Ta'pez chuckled. "I must say I hope for more then that, predicatbility is so boring." The fact that he would prefer the human over Qol as an opponent was obvious.

"And you don't find it dull to win every year, I'm sure." Tauvits sounded wryly amused. "I do like a good surprise, so I wouldn't be too horrified if Q'olavraH lost. Then again, it would be a shame to see such a fine fighter knocked out of the tournament."

Ta'pez smiled "There is no greater honor then victory.  But yes it gets dull."  He looked around - namely at the other and of the stands where Q'ols supporters had been seated. "But the outrage over my success is never dull."

"Yes, you do appear to have... irked some people over time." Tauvits followed his gaze, the corners of his mouth twitching. "And impressively so. Finding the line where outrage becomes death is a delicate skill, one I have yet to perfect. People just seem to want to stab me all-too regularly." Despite his words, his voice was still light and whimsical.

Ta'pez laughted. "You amuse me Captain,  it is a shame the Federation hasnt recognized your worth."

"They did. Then the Federation showed itself to be spineless and cowering behind its desk." Once upon a time, Tauvits had merely been performing when he uttered lines like that. These days, the feeling behind his words had become increasingly sincere. "They recognised my worth, and then I realised that they are the worthless ones. One cannot live in in a dreamworld of happy shiny people and ultimate peace forever without disaster striking, and yet with all the pain, the Federation refuses to realise that the galaxy is a dark and dangerous place and they are not the beacon of light they claim to be." His smile faded a little, and he sipped his coffee lightly.

Ta'pez nodded. "That my dear friend is the reality. That is why I will rather die then be promoted into some PADD pushing job within the KDF"  he scoffed. " I am aftraid the Klingon empire is growing weak in this semse too many things are being adopted from the Federation." He looked at Falco with a boyish grin his hand indicating at the arena. "This tournament is but a mere childs play and yet it represents so much what we are all about."

Arriving at the Wall of Honor, he was a bit surprised at what he saw. His next opponent would be a comrade, the wife of K'rahl `ech. Q'ol, married into the House of K'brd'Lok.

Kieran was in this to win, and ally or not, he intended to win. Taking his batleH he entered the Arena and walked over to the practice ring. He smiled at the woman, the wife and mate of his former Commander, and though he was Intel, he still held onto some aspects of loyalty, especially with members of an Allied House, though one not formally Allied, at least not yet. She noticed him and nodded, apparently, she already knew that he was her opponnent. This would be interesting to say the least. Taking a place in the practice area, Kieran warmed up a bit, again making sure that he felt comfortable with his weapon, while mentally reviewing possible strategies he could use against Q'ol, whom he had spa'd against before, on the Hegh Leng.

As he was getting himself ready, he noticed that there were some spectators in the practice area, some watching Q'ol, but some watching both Q'ol and himself. ta'pez HoD and the half-Andorian Tauvits among them. ta'pez, be'thal's brother, also from the House of Chang. Kieran also knew that his sister was on base. He would have to meet with his former Executive, to catch up, but for now, he put out of his mind the Chang and the merc Captain and concentrated on his technique, and readied himself to fight Q'olavraH, daughter of Pok. It would be an interesting fight indeed.

Q'olavraH grinned at Kieran as he began his warmup.

Her eyes then turned to take in the spectators.  Again wovqut was there with K'Hare, and many others that she knew well and recoginsed.  She saw ta'pez seated with the blue man that she remembered from both years past, Tauvits.  She did not let her face betray any emotion as she wondered what they were up to.

A memory flashed through her mind and suddenly she realized she had the tool to keep ta'pez out of her mind, provided to her by the Klingon/Romulan, Khoal.  She concentrated for a moment, it did not take her any effort to find the lock that the 'other' Khoal had planted in her mind.  She let all of her internal thoughts focus on the picture that Khoal... no, now she realized she had chosen the picture, the lock, and she smiled.    She knew without having to be told that Khoal had seen what ta'pez was from her mind and had given her this gift.

Satisfied with knowing that he would not be able to read her, she continued in her warm up, unconsciously moving in counter point to Kieran who was warming up near her.  This would be a good fight.

Q'olavraH glanced at the chrono on the wall and then she grinned a toothy grin at Kieran.  "It is almost time.  Fight well and with honor Kieran, son of Michael."

K'Hare climbed into the stands with the child confident in match judge that had been appointed to oversee this round.  As the match started he explained the subtleties of the moves of each combatant to his companion.

"It's a half-breed event. It's a matter of Klingon culture being held on Federation terms, and although the cause of co-operation is furthered by it, I can't help but feel it would be more powerful if conducted in a more... truly Klingon manner." Tauvits shrugged. "Being at Klach D'kel Brakt last year did help somewhat. I enjoy the event, and yet I often feel that all we do here is scratch the surface of the true heart of the meaning of such fights."

"I share your sentiment, however I believe that those with the power to decide such things hope the  moving of the  event around will sprinkle the benefits of such an event fleet wide."  he chuckled "I guess they are trying to scare as many natives as possible"

"It's true that a lot of the station seems more bemused and worried than supportive." Tauvits grinned. "The crowds we see here are just a fraction of the populace. A battle tournament is such a non-Federation idea that people seem to have trouble wrapping there heads around it."

"I have noticed that as well." Ta'pez stopped  as K'vok brought him a fresh cup of ractajino, he had asked for it earlier hoping to completly clear his head from the bloodwine he had drunk with Sajida and her friends.
"Maybe fostering understanding about what the Klingon society is about is a noble goal, outweighing the benefit of a klingon setting." Ta'pez added after tasting his ractajino.

"I suppose it broadens the mind. Then again, Federation minds can be so broad that you can fall in and get lost." Tauvits shrugged. "I guess there'd be more deaths in a truly Klingon tournament. Or, rather, more grievous injuries..."
Ta'pez nodded, "Aye I agree, although the best benefit in my opinion is meeting a kindred soul and share a barrel of bloodwine." noticing the amused look on Falco's face he added. "or two, or three".

"Or maybe a small vat." Tauvits smirked. "Or even a large one." He shook his head, sobering slightly. "I often wish we could resolve matters with a good fight more than we generally can in the Federation. It'd make life a whole lot easier. How DO things like that work in the Empire by the way?" He glanced over, in absolute curiosity. "You can just challenge someone to a fight to the death if they've wronged you in some way, and that's perfectly legal?"

"Yes, the preferable notion is to do so in open and public." Ta'pez said. "so that other klingons bear witness to the dispute."

"A much simpler way of dealing with matters." A different day, Tauvits would have presented arguments about this favouring might over right, but his focus was elsewhere. "Guess I'd get myself locked up if I tried it here, mind." He forced a wry chuckle, presenting the appearance of merely musing idly rather than plotting quietly.

"You probably would,  the station was close to witnessing such an even at the meH'Haj dinner but K'grath tolth' interfered" Ta'pez  said with a notable regret in his voice at the last part , he looked at his  blue friend  and continued. "Often disputes are settled through mediation between the offending parties, not in person but via their house as no action is without consequence. Often the House elders will settle the manner or they will seek the councel of some superiour figure. This happens on the ships frequently, as HoD I have often settled such disputes, or let them proceed to a duel."

"I suppose it wouldn't be very clever if you just had people running around challenging others to the death left, right and centre," Tauvits conceded. "I should have guessed there was a whole etiquette surrounding it. People look at just the surface of the Klingons and dismiss them based on a simple glance far too often."

"Indeed, it has largerly do with the fact that anything a house member does reflect upon the house, so there is always a lot at stake when such challanges are issued. " Ta'pez replied

"Political... or at least social... concerns at hand. Figures." Tauvits nodded, sipping his coffee again. "It's almost a shame these rules only apply on Klingon territory, and so not within light-years of here. It would make life... easier." The last part was said as a mumble which, although perfectly audible, was more of a note to himself than a comment to Ta'pez.

"Actually klingon territory is closer then you think." Ta'pez said.

Tauvits considered this, a faint frown on his face. "The Klingon ships here count as the territory of the Empire. Of course." His voice was still deeply thoughtful, the cogs working within his mind practically visible at this point.

"Yes" Ta'pez chuckled. "Infact a big  chunck of it already here,  the meH'Haj arrived this morning."

  "The meH'Haj is here?"

Ta'pez nodded. "Yes, it was in the Yards at Klach D'kel Brakt for the past couple of weeks"

"Perhabs you could spare some time for a tour."

"I'm sure I could spare the time. I'm sure it would be most interesting." Tauvits levelled his gaze towards the arena as O'Donnell appeared, and the roar of the crowd around him was such that he was reminded of the occasional safety of discussing matters in the open. "If possible... there is a matter for which I would like to make use of your ship. Or, perhaps, just a small room, and some blades."

Ta'pez smiled grasping his cohorts intent perfectly."I can show you the weHwI' training areas, lots of blades there."

"That sounds certainly worthy of a glance on any tour, I think." Tauvits smiled a rather feral smile. "It should help me deal with a little problem I have."

Ta'pez nodded. "I would be more then honored to oblige such a request."

"Then you may call upon me for any favour you may need. I am sure you have plenty of able-bodied Klingon warriors ready with blades and disruptors, but if I can be of any assistance, then I am at your service." He glanced over at Ta'pez, his expression sober once more.

"Such help is apreciated and I am sure your help will be pricessless once  such need arrises" replied Ta’pez.  The two turned their attention to the turnament as it was about to start.  They had come to an ironclad agreement, one warrior to another.

Verghese had barely made it in time for the tournament to start, and was squeezing his way through the crowd to find a good seat. This would be an interesting tournament, at the least. However, as such things happened, it could swing either way.

Finally finding a seat near the bottom rows, he steadied himself and waited for the match to start. Looking around, he noticed Tapez here, along with Tauvits and even K'hare. There were a few others here, including a group of supporters for Q'olavrah to one side.

Predictable or not, this was going to be interesting, at the least.

James had filtered up from sickbay. T'lai would be doing fine in a few days and that made him glad. He hadn't wanted to injure her more than was required and he felt bad that fate had fallen the way it did. Now he was coming to get an eye on a match of particular interest to him and to gather a little intel.

He had taken a seat behind Ta'pez and an Andorian who he did not know, keeping an eye on both the ring and on the other competitors still in the competition. He needed to know weaknesses if he was to continue after the next round and he was determined to find out as much as he could.

OFF:

K'Hare is sitting with an 8 year old Klingon female.  Of course, your Andorian could be Aklev or some random one.  But with Tauvits sitting next to ta'pez, K'Hare sat a few benches away.

ON:

As the pair of fighters warmed up K'Hare pointed out some details of the arena until the child started asking about some of the individuals in the crowd.  She knew about andorians and the other prominent federation species but had never heard of most of the others.

The girl looked around, pointed, and K'Hare told her a little about their homeworlds until she spotted Tauvits.  As soon as she looked in that direction she shrunk down and shivered.  It took some coaxing but K'Hare had to get her to focus on the match to calm her down.  Seeing Q'olavraH seemed to help greatly.

It made K'Hare wonder about DonTauvits and what would scare the child so much.

I knew that, I just got to thinking about K'hare and Tauvits scene in the bar and got confused. I lied and I shall edit that last post to make sense. Thanks for reminding me why I should double check when I wake up.

Quote from Q`olavraH   on Feb 23rd, 2005, 12:24am:
Q'olavraH glanced at the chrono on the wall and then she grinned a toothy grin at Kieran. "It is almost time. Fight well and with honor Kieran, son of Michael."

Kieran nodded, and replied, "And to you, Q'olavraH, daughter of Poq, fight well."

Kieran made his way to the ring that he and Q'ol would be using for their combat. He entered and took his place and waited.

After Q'ol was ready, Kieran asked, "How would you like to end this, first blood, disarm, knock out?"

K'rahl entered just as Q'olavraH and Kieran exchanged pleasantries in the arena.

He took in the crowd.  Saw Tauvits sat with Ta'pez.  Saw K'Hare.

There was not as large a Klingon representation in the audience as there had been last year.  The fact that last year was at Klach d'kel Brakt had obviously accounted for that.

He was about to take a seat when he saw Kur'rk.  He beckoned his Father to join him and the five sat together.

Q'olavraH smiled at Kieran.  "I think that between us to disarm would be the greater challenge."

She moved to a defensive stance and as she prepared she saw K'rahl enter and make his way through the spectators.. she was distracted by this.

He gave K'rahl a derisive aknoledgement look.
