T'lai vs Tal'Vur

James had grown weary of this day. First he had to face Bernard and then he had nearly too much to drink after. He walked to the wall of honor and looked up at his bat'leth, now quite a bit further toward the end of the brackets. He reached up and pulled his weapon off its hooks and gave it a cursory swing.

He had negated the effects of the booze with the hypo, one of the plusses about being a doctor, and yet his muscles ached. He would have to find somewhere to relax after this match.

T'Lai was in her quarters with Taj and she sighed.  She looked at the twerp and picked up her bat'leth that was leaning up against her seat.  So she and Taj left her quarters and made her way to the battle arena.  As they arrived there, Taj took his seat in the bleachers, and T'Lai walked off to go meet with her opponent.  She smirked when she realized she was up against yet another human.  She then bowed slightly in greeting.  "Hello human.  I am T'Lai, from the house of Chang.  And you are?" She asked.

James looked up from his bat'leth at the Klingon before him; there was a look of arrogance in her eyes. "I'm James Tal'Vur, chief medical officer for the USS Saturn. I'd take it you're my opponent?" James knew the answer before he even asked, and he waited for some snappy comeback, no doubt directed at either his profession or race.

T'Lai nodded.  She noticed how he was acting a bit different towards her than most humans do.  "I am first officer aboard meH'Haj.  And yes, I am your next opponent.  Please do not take me as rude.  It's just; you're the second human I’ve had to battle today.  I didn't think that so many humans would show up to this sort of event.  This is my first year here." She said.

James smiled at her. "I was here last year, got eliminated in the third round...by a shipmate no less." James thought about it. "There does seem to be an explosion of humans in the tournament, but just think of it as a better chance for the Klingons. Not only a chance to advance but an opportunity to defeat some of Starfleet's best."

"Indeed.  So far I have won all the battles I've came up against.  And I would assume the same for you.  So... may the best warrior win." She said and held out her hand to James, hoping she was using the right human custom for this sort of thing.

James took her hand, a little thrown off by this. Then he closed his hand into a fist, pounded it against his chest and looked up at her. Thought it wasn't exactly the most appropriate greeting, it would still work. "batlh bIHeghjaj" With that, James turned and gestured to the ring. "After you."

T'Lai chuckled as he said that.  "Thank you." She said as she stepped into the ring and walked to the center of it.

James stepped into the ring and took a defensive stance. "So, shall we do this to disarm, first blood or knockout? I have no real preference..."

"Hmmm...  Okay the first one to draw blood wins." She said.

James looked over to the judges, who nodded their understanding. This match would be to the first blood, same as his match with Bernard. Hopefully, if he did win, it wouldn't be on such a technicality. He liked nice gaping wounds when it came to bleeding...more work for him later, he thought. The judges signaled the beginning of the match, and James kept to the defensive, not knowing how he was going to go about this match...

T'Lai raised her bat'leth and began to circle him.  She then aimed for his chest and swung at him swiftly.

James jumped back, the blade swinging uselessly before him. He smiled as he pump faked his weapon and then swung low at her left knee. "You'll have to do better than that..."

T'Lai quickly blocked the attack, and then swung at him again, this time aiming for his right arm.

James quickly blocked and then mirrored her attack, hoping to catch her off balance.

T'Lai was taken back a bit from his attack, but barely blocked it, slightly locking their blades together.  She then pushed him off her and quickly swung at his left arm.

James quickly dropped to the mat and rolled off his right side, quickly jumping up and making a quick jab at her exposed side. "You know, the rhythm reminds me of a song...care to hear it?" James asked very aloof as he swung. Perhaps conversation would help throw her off.

"No thank you." She replied, remaining silent so she could concentrate.  It was starting to show that she was lacking the energy to make proper attacks.  T'Lai jumped back, barely dodging the attack.  As she jumped back, she tumbled to the ground.  But no sooner had she landed, she jumped right back to her feet, this time taking the defensive stance.

James smiled. It seemed to be working a little. "Qoy quylls puqlod, Qoy puqbe'pu'..." he sang as he brought his blade overhead, just intending to make some contact with her blade.

T'Lai was starting to grow agitated as the human refused her request to not sing.  She pushed him off her, and swung at his chest again as she pushed him.

"yoHbogh matlhbogh je Suvwl'..." James brought his blade to a vertical position and thrust it out to meet her blade. He then thrust it again, hoping to get her weapon back close to her chest. "Say'moHchu' may' 'lw"

T'Lai wasn't expecting him to use his strength to push at her, and the push caused her to fall backwards. As she landed, she had dropped her bat'leth.

James looked down at her and motioned for her to pick up her bat'leth. No reason to hit an opponent while they were down. He waited for her to regain her footing, stepping back as she did to and assuming a defensive posture once again.

T'Lai reached over to grab her bat'leth but as she did, she winced and pulled her arm back.  Apparently she had landed on it a wrong way.

James looked down at her. She was either feigning an injury to make him back off in his attacks or she was legitimately injured..."You all right?"

"Ah darn it, I can’t move my arm." She said as she attempted to get it "back to normal".

James looked down at her struggling. She was definitely not faking. "You going to be able to continue or shall I get the judges?"

"I think I can." She said as she got up using her other arm and picked up her bat'leth.

James smiled. True warrior spirit, indeed. "Then shall we continue?"

T'Lai nodded, and put the pain in her right arm in the back of her mind, so she could focus on the battle. T'Lai then took her offensive stance once again, and without giving the doc time to make a formation, she swung at him at a rather forceful rate, for just using one hand.

James ducked and made a deliberate swing at her good arm while picking up where he left off in his song. "masuv, manog, leg maHorchul, nI'bel yInmah lach wovqul"

No sooner had she swung at him, he had swung at her un-injured arm.  Not prepared for the sudden attack, T'Lai once again dropped the bat'leth, as a massive pain struck her arm.  She looked at it, and watched as blood trickled down it.

James frowned as the judges called the match. He looked over at his opponent and picked up her bat'leth, handing it back to her.

Exhaustion was starting to take over her body as she had very little energy left.  T'Lai was about to take the bat'leth from James, but her knees gave in causing her to tumble to the ground once again.  She then suddenly passed out from the pain that was searing through her arms.

James quickly motioned for a doctor, who rushed over. She scanned T'lai and gestured to a few security types, who came over to help get her to sickbay. James handed one of them her bat'leth. "Make sure she gets that as soon as she wakes up." He made sure they started to get off ok. He felt bad; he had just wanted to irritate her into making a few mistakes not knock her unconscious.

He turned to face the audience they had drawn and spread his arms. “I never got to finish my song...” and with that he began to sing. “Hatlh maHeghbej lej yo’ qljdaq vavpu’ma’ DImuv.” As he got deeper into the song, quite a few Klingons had joined him in singing. “pa’reH maSuvtaHqu’. mamevqo’. maSuvtaH ma’ov.” James took a little bow and made his way back over to the wall of honor, hanging his bat’leth back on the wall. He felt much better about his day now. That match had made it all worth it. He turned and headed towards the bar. He would grab a quick drink and then head to sickbay to see how T’lai was doing.
