Award ceremony
« on: Feb 28th, 2005, 3:48am »

On:

The main hall was again packed as Wade walked up to the podium to address everyone for one last time.  A technician gave him a cue from the side, signifying the transmission was ready to broadcast.

Durkis: I would like to take a brief moment to thank all those who helped with this years competition.  From the judges standing here next to me, to the crew of Xavier Fleet Yards, and to those out there that did their part to add to our competition, my sincere thanks.

A polite applause went threw the crowd before he continued.

Durkis: Now for the awards. In third place, Ta'pez HoD,  IKS meH'Haj, Task Force 44.

The crowd cheered as Ta’pez cam forth to receive the bronze trophy.  Wade handed the trophy to Ta’pez and gave a respectfully nod to fellow CO from his former Task Force. When the applause slowed, the admiral continued.

Durkis: Second place, Lt. Commander Kieran Michael O'Donnell, USS Tomar, Task Force 58.

Again the crowd cheered.  Wade shook Lt. Commander O’Donnell’s hand and presented him the trophy.

Durkis:And the winner of the Third Annual Bravofleet Bat’leth Competition, K’tar Sogh, IKS meH'Haj, Task Force 44

The crowd roared loud as K’tar came forward.  Handing the gold trophy over to K’tar, Wade merely stepped back and aloud the Klingon to have his moment.  The crowd cheered for a couple minutes until K’tar stepped down.

Admiral Durkis then turned to K’Hare and motioned for him to proceed with the next award.

K’Hare:  It is said that there are things more important than victory.  Some would say that a warrior can lose a battle, but that if they do not compromise, they do not turn from who they are, even in death they are not defeated.  This is the Klingon way.  We do not seek death, we seek challenge, and to die while performing a great deed shows what is most important to every true Klingon.  It is my pleasure to once again present the Honor Award to Q’olavraH, daughter of q'marI.

He smiled to himself at the personal joke that only Q’ol herself would understand.

OFF:

Some of the awards we give out are out of character.

The Role Playing Award - awarded to the player who most contributes to the tournament due to exceptional writing, some OOC activity, or both.

This year, the role playing award goes to Ing of Task Force 86.

The RP award is voted on and debated by the judges.  The judges also each pick their own favorite individually.  The RP winner is not elligible and we don't allow duplicates.

Wade's Judge award goes to Q'olavraH for exceptional role playing.

Valren's Judge award goes to Tauvits for exceptional role playing.

K'Hare's Judge award goes to Sajida for demonstrating the spirit of this event.  She could not attend to fight but got others to show up, she still joined when she could, and she participated in lots of unplanned scenes.

This year we are also introducing a new award, the Newcomer Award to the player who has not attending the tourney before and has the biggest effect.   The Newcomer Award goes to Ing, of Klach D'kel Brakt.

In addition to the honor award, I wanted to highlight the honor and dishonor of the participant to recognize those who fought with honor but did not have the skill to fight for as long.

There are the warriors who fought only with great honor or fought for several round with honor.

 Great Honorable mentions:
  T'Linda
  roS'neQar Ross McEwan
  K'megh son of Kohrel
  Charlie Reynolds
  K'Vok
  Kira Naul Gordon
  A.J. Bernard

These are the warriors who fought honorably overall.

Honorable mentions:
  Falco Tauvits
  M'rek
  Jason Pepper
  Jean Chandler
  Shaydara

While we are not awarding this in character, the warrior who accumulated the most dishonor was:

Most Dishonorable:
  Kieran Michael O'Donnell

And this one stood out from the rest.

Great Dishonorable mention:
  Tomas Wolfe

The follow warriors had honor totals that leaned to the dirty side.

Dishonorable mention:
  Ta'pez
  Davidian
  Talora
  Jake Ness
  Loj Hartson
  James Tal'Vur

We have only had 8 votes for the Player's Choice so far so it will be awarded later.

We will be making a site for the awards in the next few days.  The tourney site will stay up for at least another week.  After that it will be available read only.

ON:

Valren stood quietly behind the two judges.  He had been given the opportunity to assist in the awarding process but had opted against it.  He sensed a lot of distaste from K'Hare totlh and knew that both K'Hare and Rear Admiral Durkis were both far more engaged and more appropriate.

Once the awards had been handed out, the applause and cries heard and K'Hare's parting remarks given.  The new CO for Xavier took the podium.

"The Alliance between the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets is a proud and long standing one.  Our cultures are very different but our friendship is strong nonetheless.  This event, hosted by an arm of the Federation Starfleet is a great example of the affection our two organization have for each other.  Despite trials and breakdowns at certain times, by and large our alliance has lasted nearly 90 years and I am sure it shall not fade anytime soon," he paused a moment as there were some applause.  Despite being none too keen on the culture of Qo'nos, Valren Arelwynn respected their ways and appreciated their raw emotion.  This might not have been his idea of fun, but it was a worthy event nonetheless.

"We have witnessed a great deal of honourable combat here these past few days.  I do not have a very keen eye for it myself, but we've seen a fair bit of dishonourable combat too I am told," he paused as there was some laughter, though the Klingons were not that amused.  "Whether you were here to compete or to observe, whether you have Klingon blood in your veins or Klingon culture in your hearts, I think we can all join in excliaming `Qapla'!`  I wish you all well and on behalf of Xavier Fleet Yards and Task Force 44, I thank you for your spirit and dedication."

OOC:
Your list is not complete regarding Honour...  For example Q'olavraH is not mentioned.  Can we have a full list please?  Unless the cheating was purely through sources that we could not see in the ring pretty much any skilled warrior could tell who was dirty and who wasn't, an armchair fan could spot Kieran cheats.

OOC...  OK, I should read posts correctly...  Missed that.

K'tar and S'ol were not mentioned in the OOC either though.  I didn't check for all the competitors when I made my misread but I did check to see if it was only Q'ol, as I expected her to get the award and thought at first K'Hare had forgotten it...  I musta skipped the whole paragraph.

Did those not mentioned average out as being neither without honour or with extra honour?  (which means they still had some hounour of course...)

Those sound like fighting words there Wink

BTW, Kieran didn't cheat, he just took advantage of specific moments in time, but never did anything illegal in his moves, he just used alot of moves that aren't looked too kindly on in a tournament setting. If he had cheated, don't you think he would've been kicked out? So Tongue to you K'rahl.  Smiley

BTW, I don't get how reynolds got an Honour mentioning when he didn't even fight his second fight, he got arrested instead, or are those based off what they chose as their fighting stance?

Yes.  I generated that list purely on what people chose OOC as their fighting stance.

Making that list based on IC posts would be difficult and would become an assessment of posting quality.

=/\= Xavier Fleet Yards, Section Blue Two, Award Ceremony =/\=

James had woke up in a strange sickbay but had been greeted with a familiar face. He had regained consciousness and been well enough to be released for the awards ceremony.. Ta'pez had taken a toll on his body and his muscled ached with a dull pain.

He had made it to the ceremony with minutes to spare before it began and he had watched in silence as the awards were handed out. One more place, he thought, and he would have been one of the people on that stage.

After the speeches and the awards, James snaked through the crowed to Ta'pez and gently tapped him on the shoulder, his other hand by his pocket.

James reached into his pocket, slowly, and pulled out a pair of isolinear chips and offered them to Ta'pez.

"Our match was amazing, one of the best I've ever fought. Hopefully there are no hard feelings."

James held the chips out, and waited.

Ta'pez looked at the chips then the human presenting them.

"You are ignorant of our ways," Ta'pez said. "were you klingon you would be dead by now."

The klingons tensed around him. " However as you have just shown, you have learned something and that makes me content."  Ta'pez continued.

He looked around easing the tention on his minions.

"Next year perhaps you will know more about the klingon way." he finally said pocketing the chips from his the Qels hand.

Again the crowd cheered. Wade shook Lt. Commander O’Donnell’s hand and presented him the trophy.

Kieran (this time wearing his Starfleet uniform, Engineering yellow with 3 pips on his collar), who had been in the back of the hall when his name was announced, was surprised that so many cheered, and didn't actually boo him. He walked with his head held high. He did what he had to do, what he had came here to do, and even though some of the Klingons present had decided that he fought with dishonour and would be out for his blood in the future, those whom Kieran needed to impressed were impressed, and his future in II was assured.

Kieran had some fences to mend however before he left Xavier, especially with Q'ol and perhaps K'rahl as well, as he was sure his former CO wasn't pleased with him, and the human II agent hoped that Q'ol would understand; and he also had a meeting with the red-shirted Commander after the ceremony.

Kieran shook hands with Admiral Durkis, and held the 2nd Place trophy high for a moment, so the Federation and Klingon News Feeds could see him and his trophy, then he made his way down and back into the crowds, amid some back thumping and congratulatory remarks, and also amongst some stares of anger from some of the Klingons, especially those of the meH'Haj.

Also, I would like to congratulate everyone who received an award, IC AND OOC. This was my first tournament I was able to attend and participate in (I lurked last year), and it was great.

Thank you all for a great time.

James smiled at the Klingon before him. He had accepted this act of contrition. James didn't want bad blood to exist with someone as skilled with a blade as Ta'pez.

And of course, honor dictated that he hadn't made copies of the chips. He hadn't even had time to look at most of the data due to his little 'encounter' with security and the ensuing inebriation that followed.

James frowned. "I never actually saw your data...I never got the chance between the little meeting in the security office and the matches, and those iso chips came straight from my tricorder. You're holding the only copies," James said, pulling his hand back. "You klingons assume too much."

Ta'pez just shook his head. " Maybe we do."

Hu turned around and left thinking that this conversation had been concluded. A few feet away he turned around and looked at Talvur.

"You have been warned, don't make me regret this decision."

Talvur realized he had heard Ta'pez yet the klingon had not spoken.

From the back, in the shadows, Verghese watched the proceedings quitely. He uttered nothing and his features betrayed little, his only thoughts being that of the tournament.

He watched as the others cheered the winners, and internally, he cheered them on as well. But still, the fact that he had lost in the first few stages of the tournament itself was beggining to nag him.

But I didn't loose the thought struck him. This was further re-enforced when Admiral Valren spoke up.

Although Verghese had not won anything here, with no victory, he realized he hadn't really lost anything either. If anything, the tournament had left his mind sober and clearer. He had watched the fights and observed his opponents, picking up new techniques along the way. But more importantly, at least he had come away from the tournament richer in honour, if nothing else.

Yes....the year would pass by quickly, and before anyone knew it, it would be time for the tournament again. This year, he may not have had much of a chance. But now he had another full year to practice and once the great game began again, he was sure as hell going to do better than this year.

Once the ceremony was over, he slowly walked out towards the exit. It was time to leave, and he had to get his belongings.

IC:

Q'olavraH smiled at her brother as she came forward to accept the honor award.  She grabbed him and gave him a friendly hug before taking it.

She saluted K'Hare and then the other judges, Klingon fashion before decending back to her place in the crowd.

OFF:
Thank you Mr. Durkis for the judges award.  That others like how I role play and write means a lot to me, so, I guess I'll stay at it for another year. Smiley

Everyone, as usual, I had a wonderful time, and not only because K'Hare FINALLY revealed one of his deep dark secrets that I've been waiting 2 years to find out.

Every year I am amazed at the exceptional writing that this event generates.  I enjoy reading everyone's stuff and learning about thier characters more each year.

See you all next year!

Thanks for the awards.  Cheesy

Ing is a sneaky little fellow who really doesn't like interacting with other people much, so I'm kind of surprised to win the "Best RolePlayer" award. Heck, the only time I could get him into the bar was when he needed to pump some people for information.

Anyways, as Tauvits has probably figured out (OOC) by now, it wasn't his daughter Ing was discussing with him...

M'Rek watched the award ceremony and roared excitedly in as several of his favorates and those of the meH'Haj crew were rewarded.  They earned it.  He knew that for sure.  It was good to see that Saj had one something as well.  He hoped to see her the next year.  It would be a even more Glorious Tourney next year for sure.

After recieving her award from the judges she thanked all of them with Valren sneaking in a little wink at her. She smiled back and left to be with her friends M'rek, G'Trell, Kira and a few others congregated around them.

M'rek all smiles at Sajida congratulated her first.

"Thanks" she replied "I really didn't see it coming it is indeed an honor"

K'Tar stuck around for awhile, receiving congratulations from various people attending the Awards Ceremony.  He smiled at the golden trophy of a smaller Bat'leth set in a platinum round ball set on a gold-pressed latinum stand.  A trophy obviosly designed by a Ferengi, KTar thought.  He then handed the trophy to Ceres.  "Take this to my quarters aboard the Meh'Haj.  I will be back shortly."  K'Tar then left the Ceremony and headed off to find his sister.

T'Lai watched the awards, and cheered Tapez on as he recieved the 3rd place.  She frowned slightly though, feeling she could have done better.   She then found Tapez after the ceremonies was over with and bowed slightly.  "Congratulations for getting 3rd place." She told him.

Tag back M'rek

M'Rek smilled slightly.  "You did well.  You deserve it.  Will you be here next year?"  He asked.

OOC: Not to rain on your parade, Saji, but I think that was an OOC award.

roS cheered with the rest when the winners were recognized but left right after the awards.

He was still very angry at how he had lost his match and was very determined to do better the next year.

Part of him was also very upset at how the match's had played out.

After all of K'Hare's talk of honor... the winners of this competition had all acted with dishonor to win their hardest match's.

Did this mean that klingon honor was just a matter of time and place?

With these thoughts roS headed for his room to get his things ready to ship off in the Scott.

He had much to ask K'Hare once this place was behind them.
