Loose Ends
« on: Mar 1st, 2005, 8:12pm »

...which I promise we'll try to tie up very rapidly. Honest! I want this all concluded and done too!

Anyway, a JP from the wonderful minds of Pez and Blue.

Part I

ON:

<XFY>

Forrest was enjoying another pleasant day in his temporary office. There was not much to bother him, everything was going to plan and he was in the process of  preparing a nasty suprise for that bastard running around the station.

He had known that Tauvits was here for something other than amusing himself at the tournament the moment he'd arrived. One was not broken free from capture with the assistance and information of crime lord Cyrus Doyle and then simply go on holiday. If you owed the crime lord, he would make you pay off your debt. Tauvits was a resourceful individual, it was obvious that he had skills Tauvits could use. And Tauvits, being stark raving mad, would doubtless be quite happy to follow the crime lord to enact his 'revenge' upon Starfleet. Doyle would use resources like that, just as his younger brother had always been happy to do. It was just a shame Cyrus was not quite as malleable as Marcus.

Still, he'd managed to keep tabs on Tauvits enough during his time on the station, and he'd done very little. It was highly likely his job was in the journey itself, for he had been travelling with one of Doyle's smuggler lackeys.

But that wasn't his concern any more, not with the tournament over. He'd get some food, then return to Betazed. But as he was to go out for lunch his combadge beeped.

=/\= Ta'pez to Forrest =/\= the commbadge spat out.

Forrest was suprised hear from the Klingon HoD. The House of Chang were not known for friendly ties to the federation however that also meant that they were often not involved with the federation officials. It gave them a certain level of independence, and Forrester like that.

=/\= How can I help you HoD =/\=

There was a brief pause and then Forrester recieved the responce.

=/\= A sensitive matter has been brought to my attention,  I was hoping you could join me at the meH'Haj some time later today to discuss this =/\=

Forrest was intrigued by this and considered it for a momement. Ta'pez HoD might have something interesting to say for himself, and there was no real reason to reject the offer. "I am heading out for some lunch, perhaps in an hour or so?"

=/\= That sounds agreeable, a member of my House will be avaiting you at the docks. Ta'pez out =/\=

<After lunch>

As promised by the Klingon HoD Forrest was aproached by a middle aged klingon.

"Please follow me. The HoD avaits us."

Forrester nodded and steped into the airlock. He had a funny feeeling about this and yet could not place it as to why that was the case.

OFF:

To Be Continued...! (dah dah DUM!)

Rapidly, I promise.

Forrest allowed the Klingon to lead him through the airlock and on to the corridors of the meH'Haj. He had never interacted much with Klingons in the past, and was not wholly used to their ships, or the state in which they lived. It was just as well, he reasoned, that he hadn't allowed the HoD to get him lunch, otherwise he would have been feeding upon gagh, which was not his idea of a particularly solid meal. Worms did not encourage hunger within him, unless it was a hunger for stamping on them. Perhaps they could deal with this 'sensitive matter' rapidly, and then go.

Forrest looked over at the Klingon leading him. "I don't suppose you could enlighten me as to the matter the HoD wishes to speak to me about?" he asked, peevishly.

"I am not privy to such matters" replied the Klingon after a moment. Clearly the klingon didnt wish to engage in conversation as his face indicated deep discontent.

Forrest sighed rather irritably. "Very well. Lead on, then." He decided to just wait and follow in silence.

<training halls - IKS meH'Haj>

Ta'pez had guided Tauvits to the weHwI' training halls.

The main was large, dwarfing the Areana on the Station.

"I am told they shall be here soon."  Ta'pez said to Falco.

The Klingon mongrel could sense the tension in his blueskinned friend.

"Good." Tauvits was stepping about the halls, eyeing any of the weaponry on the wall. "All of this is combat-ready, too, I assume?" He managed a sheepish smile, which was still rather tight for the obvious tension, and shrugged slightly. "I find myself lacking my own weapon."

Ta'pez looked at his like at a child. "Of course, we have no blunted blades here"  he said with a chuckle.

He walked over to the wall. "You can use my own blade, if you wish, but it is of particular design." Ta'pez continued indicating at the ornate weapon on the wall.

"I wasn't sure if they were just crafted for display. A foolish question, but worth double-checking." Tauvits' smile broadened a very little. "I will give Forrest the chance to choose his means of combat. He is not trained with a betleH, as far as I know. So he may prefer something more to his tastes. Perhaps a meqleH, or maybe even the Daqtagh. But we shall see." His eyes flickered over to the doorway regularly, watching, waiting.

Ta'pez chuckled. "As you wish. " He looked at his friend with a disarming smile. "Do not worry, he shall not leave this ship one way or the other."

Tauvits glanced over curiously. "Is it a part of the Klingon tradition to... 'deal' with the victor if the result is not the one hoped for?"

"No it is not,  but the man walking with PoQ died a long time ago when he betrayed you and your crew and everything he swore to protect ."

Ta'pez said sternly. "There is honor given to an oath  breaker."

"That sounds good." Tauvits nodded, looking satisfied. "Besides, as this goes on, he may be told of matters which should not leave this room, and certainly not this ship. It's for the best."

Ta'pez mererly nodded, placing his right hand upon his breastplate. "So shall it be."

Tauvits grinned, returning the nod. "Alright. Let's get this show on the road. Where is the bugger?" He turned back to the centre of the arena, his eyes still fixed on the door.

The two turned their attention toward the door, just at that moment  the company they had awaited arrived.

The mantis had found its pray.

Forrest's expression twisted into a scowl the moment the door slid shut neatly behind him and his eyes settled upon the scene before him. "Tauvits! I should have known you'd be behind this, you deranged madman! Makes sense that a traitor like you would find himself conspiring with a Chang!"

Tauvits' eyes flashed as he stepped forwards, his body language calm, controlled and relaxed, with very little giving away his inner tension. When when he spoke, it was in a light and casual and above all non-threatening manner. He didn't need to sound threatening for the situation to become deadly. "I find it ironic you call me a traitor, Forrest. A man in the pay of the late Marcus Doyle to give away Starfleet secrets shouldn't really be throwing around accusations of betrayal."

PoQ stepped back, indicating clearly that would not let anybody pass through the door that had closed behind Forrest.

Ta'pez stepped forward with a stern face. "There is no plot here human. I have summoned you to resolve a matter of honor without having to deal with bueracrats and ears not destined to hear this complaint. "

Forrest pinched the bridge of his nose, stepping away from PoQ almost instinctively, and approaching Tauvits gingerly. "What the hell are you going on about?" This was spat at Ta'pez, but his eyes didn't leave Falco's.

Ta'pez spoke up. " Falco claims you have dishonored your oath and sullied his honor by betraying the Federation. He has sought my advice and arbitration since he was denied this right in the courts of Starfleet."
forcefed sleeper: Ta'pez stepped closser, "A matter of honor needs to be settled here."
BFFalcoTauvits: Forrest forced a scoff. Of course Tauvits would think something like that, and of course he would act on it. He was absolutely nuts enough to try and bypass the courts. "And do you have any proof, mad vigilantes that you are?" he asked the pair of them.

Tauvits pulled out a PADD. "I have an interesting record of your accounts here. Funding from... well, technically from Tarkon Corps, but in the last few weeks that's been revealed as a front for Marcus Doyle. The man who was responsible for the destruction of the USS Horizon, theft of the Scrolls of Argaeian from the USS Thunderchild four years ago, and who hired the pirates group Kahless Blades to ambush the aforementioned USS Thunderchild and destroy her. Odd that you should receive money from him." Tauvits's voice was irksomely smug.

Forrest's expression settled into a snarl before he could get it under control. "What? Information... false information, of course... gathered illegally, as I assume that was if you found my private accounts, won't stand up in a court of law!"

Tauvits smiled a rather feral and toothy smile. "Hence why I'm here."
forcefed sleeper: "In a court of Federation, you would walk away traitor" Ta'pez spat out. "Were it in his place I would kill you on the spot."  He stepped closser towards him. "Your friend here is foolish enough to consider his honor demands and offer you challange instead of treachery."

Forrest looked over at Tauvits, furious. "You'll be wanted for murder for this, Tauvits!"

"Actually, I won't. Well, I doubt the Federation will like me, but they can't arrest me." Falco's smile broadened. "See, this here is Klingon territory. Klingon law applies. As such, a challenge to the death is perfectly legal."

Forrest scowled again. "What makes you think I'll accept this stupid challenge and not just walk away, then put out the warrant for your immediate arrest?"

Tauvits waved the PADD about. "Because I'll post this publically, and anonymously. And all your friends in the fleet won't be able to stop this from being double-checked. That, I doubt you'll be able to dodge. Fight me, kill me, and you get the PADD. Nobody knows anything."

Forrest spluttered for a few moments, before turning to face Ta'pez. "This is your doing, Klingon! Your barbaric laws! I have friends in the Empire, I'll see to it that you pay for this!" It was a bald-faced lie, but Forrest's fury right then was such that he didn't care.

"I am Chang you stupid petaQ," Ta'pez laughed harshly,  the echoes full of bitters and utter cold. "My House has never paid much attention to the likes of you. Accept the challange or die."

"This is Klingon law? Does it have to be to the death? I've seen the tournament, I'm sure they have other such tactics as knock-out or disarm." Forrest looked furtively about.

Tauvits shrugged. "I guess it's possible, if you REALLY want. Then you just have to trust that, alive, I won't screw you over anyway. I know I don't trust you that much. I'm in favour of death." He smiled at Ta'pez. "I'm SURE that's within the confines of the Klingon traditions, correct?" he asked smugly.

"Matters of honor are fought to death unless the victor decides that his honor has been satiesfied with less then that"  Ta'pez said.

"I don't think we'll be messing around with this." Tauvits' expression darkened.

Forrest looked at him curiously. "This is still about that darn crew you lost?"

The room was filled with one of those moments where tension flashed up like a bright light before being controlled, such was Tauvits' initial anger. The half-Andorian's face was a mask of fury, and his fist was clenched as he glared at Forrest. "This is about the fine crew whose murders you contributed to. You sold the Blades the codes to access the computer mainframe and turn off the life support! You might as well have shot them yourself! So, yes, my honour will need a little more than kicking your arse to be satisfied." He stepped back, almost shaking with rage. "About me are the weapons you may use for the tournament. You are the challenged, so you may choose. I insist upon bladed weapons, but am aware that the advantage would be unfairly mine if we were to combat with the betleH. Other Klingon weapons may be more to your suiting."

Forrest winced a little, but looked back at Ta'pez a shade more penitently. "Can I use any of the blades in here?" he asked, forcing politeness.

"Any" Ta'pez said. "Choose now."

Forrest's eyes scanned the wall of blades, and he stepped about them calmly, not wasting any time. Tauvits had read the man's file, and knew he was a skilled boxer, so close-quarters fighting was not a novelty to him. If the fight turned brutal, it might give him the advantage over Tauvits' own slightly more hands-off form of fencing. He still had a pretty good idea what Forrest would choose, and thus he was not particularly surprised when the commander moved to pick up a pair of Daqtagh. "Two knives are acceptable?"

"Sounds good to me." Tauvits scanned the wall himself, hunting for his own pair. Knife-fighting. A gritty art he had never mastered.

Ta'pez motioned them forward and they waled into a white circle. The center of it bore the Klingon Imperial Isignia. "Remain in this circle until the victor is know" Ta'pez annouced.

Falco was looking at Forrest when he heard Ta'pez "Make sure you finish the job blueman" He looked up but it seemed as if Ta'pe had not said anything.

Forrest chuckled a little, seeming more confident with knives in his hands. "Alright. Let's get this done. Let's see if your time as a pirate has taught you the nastier parts of brawling, Tauvits."

Tauvits grinned that feral smile once more. "We'll see," was all he said simply.

The meH'Haj is not docked with XFY, it is out in local space.  There just wasn't room.  There are two shuttles running full time to ferry people back and forth and of course, you could have a special shuttle sent or you could transport, depending on how secret you want to make his visit.

that makes no sense since you said that the meH'Haj would be the main ship to which all the klingon ones would dock - make up your mind - and let us know

OFF:

A section of the space around XFY was designated for all the Klingon ships.  It is near one of the space docks.

The meHHaj is on the XFY side of that area.  Smaller Klingon craft are docking to the meH'Haj.  Larger ones are sending shuttles back and forth.  The meH'Haj was acting as a central place for all the Klingons and Klingon ships.  (It's as big as a small city so let it be one.)

Two XFY shuttles or troop ships or something are acting as ferrys continuously from the meH'Haj to one of the docking points on XFY so the wait is short most of the time.  When everyone tries to come over at once there can be a small wait.  Also, there are transporters, but again, during the busy times, things queue up.

So, if you are a Klingon character from a ranodom Klingon ship, you leave XFY by taking a shuttle to the meH'Haj, then another one to your ship or you just walk over if your ship happens to be one that is docked.  Most runabouts and the like are simply inside the meH'Haj.

That is what I suggested at the start of the tourney.
