Title: What is the approval process to attend the tourney
Post by K`Hare totlh on Jan 23rd, 2006, 11:31pm

To join the betleH tourney you need to go here:

http://betleh.batlh.com/cgi-bin/db/db.cgi?shipname=b4

and click the sign up button.  Filling the form out will add your character to the tourney roster at the bottom, in a section for 'unapproved' attendees.

During the week of January 23, K'Hare will review each character bio and make sure there isn't some conflict that would prevent the character from attending.  Some non-standard characters cannot be allowed.  As characters are reviewed and approved they will be moved up into the attendee section or the pending fighter list.

On or around February 1st, K'Hare will review the combat settings for characters at the tourney and settings inconsistent with the bio supplied for the character.

All players should edit their bio on the betleH 4 manifest to make it as complete as possible to ensure the character gets approved.

The order the characters are being reviewed is mostly random.  The characters K'Hare is famliar with will be reviewed first, simply because he knows them and less review is needed.

Since I've already been asked, an example of a character that would be rejected would be a vampire or some race that generated the 'vampire' myth.  While some COs might allow such a concept on their simm, the tourney attempts to be more restrictive.  A character based on the salt vampire would also be rejected.  Such a character would be too dangerous for anyone in character, to allow in public.  The attempt is to make the tourney enjoyable for all players.

Not To mention Salt Vampires are Extinct, if you refere to the salt eating creature from TOS show (Forgot name of episode)

Yeah. Being extinct does tend to put a crimp in one's day. And the episode was "The Man Trap".

My Google-fu is strong.

Is anything in sci-fi or simming ever extinct?

We have characters who are grown up half breed members of races introduced in Voyager.  We have loose copies of races from other settings (my favorite is the 'neechians').

So given how ancient that one was, its not too out of hand to think that one could survive another few hundred years, and that's without cloning or time travel or a Q curse of a changling punishment or ...

Kind of related, but we have 5 people from DS7 trying for Fighter positions in the tourny (I decided to give it a shot not, so I changed my "pending" account to a fighter one from spectator). And since we have an almost 60 player simm, that's a pretty small number for us. I know that only one slot is guaranteed, and the others are only if there is room, but if a few of us get denied, can we still attend as spectators?

In the current scheme we don't limit who fights.  We leave that up there so that if the tourney becomes really well attended, we can trim some down.   In the first few years, we did a lot more by hand so it was a lot of work and we needed to limit the entrants.

The new system this year takes care of that.

As for rejection, you are either accepted or rejected to be present at the tourney.  I am doing those now.  Making sure that there aren't problem characters like vampires or jedi knights.  Making sure there isn't some character with some special power that would not be allowed in character as well as something that is against BF rules OOC.

After that, the fighters are reviewed to make sure we don't have dahar master ensigns and things like that.  So yes, if, if the fighting ranks are restricted for some reason, you can still attend.   You could also attend and say that in character, you just didn't win in the tryouts.
