Title: Serenity Promenade
Post by Grenn on Feb 7th, 2006, 3:50pm

<<Serenity Promenade, Lunchtime>>

Walking in with her sister, Rolf, his friend from the Denver, and several other people, Yolen'da looked around the area, and reveled in the massiveness of it. It was bigger then some of the indoor plazas on Atlantis, and that was something to be seen.

As they walked, she saw someone that she thought was familiar. Excusing herself from the group, she walked over to another Caitian admiring the plaza in her own way.

"Excuse me. Admiral Clawson, am I right?" she asked the stranger as she turned towards her.

<tag Clawson>

"Colonel Yolen'da Grenn." she said, extending for a shake. "My brother is your CIO" she said with a slight laugh.

OFF: Ok, there. Now you have no excuse to not post here :)

Jackie was as lost on the promenade as she was in her own mind, but the Caitian made it look like she was just taking a casual stroll , looking around the area as she let her thoughts settle. She was still unsure if she was insane for 'agreeing' to coming here, let alone going all the way and fighting in the tournament.

Her own bat'leth, at least the one she replicated aboard the Astadler on their way to the tournament, now hung amongst the rest on the 'Wall of Honour' in one of the furthest spots she could find. After seeing all the weapons there, the Caitian had to wonder whether she was truly insane or if it was her way of dealing with her current situation.

'gotta be' she thought, 'promotion and a Task Force to deal with, and attendance to the tournament I've not heard much about, of course I'm gonna go the extra step of trying to get myself killed' she pointedly thought to herself as she walked by a few places on the Promenade.

Jackie's thoughts where shattered by a voice adressing to her.

[snip]
"Excuse me. Admiral Clawson, am I right?" she asked the stranger as she turned towards her.
[/snip]

Her ears twitched just a bit at being referred to as 'Admiral'; the Caitian still found it hard to be used to something like that.

"Indeed." she replied looking at the other Caitian.

[snip]
"Colonel Yolen'da Grenn." she said, extending for a shake. "My brother is your CIO" she said with a slight laugh.
[/snip]

"Ah...how did you..." she began as she extended her hand to shake the other Caitian's offered hand, "well suppose you two keep in touch" she smiled a little.  There was little point in saying her name, as the Colonel seemed to know it. "here for the tournament too I reckon?" she asked.

"Ah...how did you..." she began as she extended her hand to shake the other Caitian's offered hand, "well suppose you two keep in touch" she smiled a little.  There was little point in saying her name, as the Colonel seemed to know it. "here for the tournament too I reckon?" she asked.

"Yeah. Emerson pushed me into it." she said, motioning to Rolf, his friend, and her sister talking over by one of the stands. "Said I should give it a shot. Been practicing off and on since Sao Paulo." she said, referring to the Marine Corps Engineering Acadamy in Brazil on Earth.

"He told me you just got promoted and that you'd be at the tournament. Figured I should say Hi if I saw you, so I checked your bio to recognize you." she said, glancing back at the group moving a little farther down the promenade. "Well, I'd better get going over there. Nice to meet you! See you around!" she said, exchanging a parting gesture then heading back to the others.

OFF :p :)

Rolf listened quietly to the two getting acquainted before replying.

"Admiral, it's a pleasure to finally meet you." Rolf replied.

"Oh, by the way this is Major General Bill Buchanan, he commands the 15th fleet."

"Pleasure Admiral." Bill added

"You took over from Tauvits did you not?" Rolf asked. "I here he may be here at the tournament. I hope so, I'm a real big fan of his. I hope I get to meet him." Rolf added

Jackie smiled lightly, half wondering what exactly did these people hear about her.

"Rear Admiral Rolf Emerson, I take it." she noted, hoping she got the name right; socnidering how short on time she was to study the personnel files of some of the key members of the fleet so as not to look like an idiot whilst at the tournament. Not that she wouldn't look like one with a bat'leth in hand, considering she was going to be fighting.

jackie was still not quite sure whether that was secretely a suicide wish, or her way of dealing with what just happened. Maybe a bit of both, she had to admit.

"Yes" she nodded. "I believe I did take over from RAdm Tauvits. "I hope I get to meet him too, might get a better idea of what I'm in for, with fifty eight" she smirked.

Rolf could tell that she was nervous; he remembered how he felt when he first made Brigadier General. He was extremely skeptical about his promotion.

“I can tell you’re nervous about something Admiral. Let me assure you that what ever it is, you can confide in me. When I got my first flag promotion to Brigadier General, I was nervous and afraid. I was a division co in a task force and I felt like I didn’t know what was going on. However, I had a good teacher; Vice Admiral Nick Haig had promoted me. He felt I was ready to run a division. Haig’s a good guy.  There have been so many changes in the fleet this last year, I’m sure everyone has been taken by surprise.”

Little did Rolf know in a few more months he would be reporting to Clawson.

Jackie smiled.

"Not nervous, RAdm" she noted slyly, smirking. "more like lack of caffeine in my system. I was actually looking for a bar or something where i can get a tripple raktajino...."

She nodded lightly.

"Change is... inevitable. slightly annoying at times. " she noted, well aware how much she missed her old posting aboard the Rayden, and not just because of Harmon.  "however, it happens...who cares if I'm to several tripple shots of raktajino a day since my non command days" she smirked.

As Patrick walked into the restraunt he saw the place was crowded with brass generals, admirals, a caitian col.  Oh well he got a bite to eat for the girl and started to walk over to a table.  He then ran smack into the catian col. "Uh, I'm uh very sorry ma'm," he said hoping he wouldn't sufer to bad.

"Sure, thanks for the help."  Grinning, Kenin stuck her hand out, hesitating an instant before giving her real name.  No one here would know any difference...well, except for some of the DS7 crew, and she wasn't currently in trouble..."Kenin.  Pleased to meet you, sir."

<tag>

"Thank you, sir, for showing me the way.  The station is so big."  Smiling, she fell in stride beside him.  "So, are you going to fight?  I bet you'd do real good...I mean, you look strong and everything..."

*Oh, great!*  Kenin recognized both Emerson and Grenn, although she was hoping they wouldn't recognize her.  Looking at the floor, she shifted uneasily for a second, then looked up and smiled, standing a step behind Cash.  If they did recognize her, she'd just wing it.  Besides, they were Fleet...how smart were they?

Yolen'da looked at the person who had just ran into her.

"Uh, I'm uh very sorry ma'm," the CWO2 said to her with an embarassed look on his face.

"No harm done, Warrant Officer." she replied, whiping a bit of something off her uniform from what had just happened. "Just watch where you're going. Wouldn't want to run headfirst into one of the Klingon officers around the station. Unless you're planning to compete, that is." she said, waiting for an answer from the so far unimpressive young NCO.

Patrick pursed his lips, at 32 he had been in the marines for 16 years.  He had enlisted underage and became a demolitionist.  He'd been good enough to become a warrent officer.  He still had a dislike of officers from the day he had been a CWO.  They always seemed to look down on them as officer pretenders.

"I'll make sure that doesn't happen ma'm," he said tusrly saluting.

He turned to the girl, "Heres a table."

Ensign Lynch continued his patrol of the promenade he had allready relieved several guests of weapons and broken up a fight between a bolian trader and something called a zorgorn........That was interesting to say the least....His shift was supposed to be over five hours ago but the activity on the station required additional time.He rounded the corner and came to the wonderfull smells of the restaurant area of the promenade it was always and easy patrol not much going on just people trying to enjoy a good meal.By the looks of it most of the establishments were enjoying a surge in business.Michael walked over to one of the security stations and checked for any activity reports....Lt.chadwick was still in the lucky strike monitoring for any possible developments the rest of the promenade security force was on regular patrol.

Kenin looked down, feeling bad for her companion.  It had been an honest mistake, not something he'd done on purpose.  But it did seem that the higher rank an officer had, the more of a jerk they were.  Of course, Marcus was proof you didn't need rank to be treacherous.  Shrugging, she followed Gage.

He turned to the girl, "Heres a table."

"Great!"   She smiled brightly, trying to lighten the mood as she set her tray down.  "Thank you for buying lunch, that was very kind."  After taking a sip of her drink, she looked over at the man. "So, are you fighting?"

"After all I am a gentlemen and an NCO.  Looks like I may be fighting a senior officer miss," Zippo said eating at his Bourbon street chicken and sipping his glass of lime juice "Some people are just jerks."  He didn't tell her that an officer was the reason he didn't have a wife anymore.

"Isn't it true everyone is equal in a fight?"  Kenin shrugged.  "You are too nice to be an officer.  All the ones I know wouldn't give you the time of day except to give orders."  Sighing, she took a bite of food and chewed guiltily for a moment, then confessed, "I was really only trying to get a free meal from you at first..." then she added hastily, "not that I'm needy or anything...I just wanted to see if I could...I'm sorry, I can pay you back..."

"Yeah well after sixteen years in the marines i've seen everything and blown up most anything.  Seem's to me that most officers just care about their carrer then people.  Especially the one who ordered my wifes death," Patrick said brushing the bread crumbs and BBQ sauce out of his handlebar mustache. "That's why I turned down the appointment to the achademy," he grunted "Meal's on me.  I may only have a CWO's pay but i've got the hazzard pay to make up."

He seemed almost as bitter as she, although she pretty much hated Starfleet as a whole, with the exception of a few individuals.  "Thank you..."  She was curious about his wife but didn't want to upset him.  "I'm sorry you've had such a hard time..."  She shrugged, suddenly feeling a little depressed.  "Hazard pay, huh?  At least they give you that!  I'm surprised they bother."  She looked up at him as she munched on her pasta.  "What do you do that is so hazardous?"

"Yeah well, a catian dissadent group desided that a Starfleet engineering team would be the perfect target.  WHen they discovered one of the "traitors" was among them, so much the better," he sighed deeply "At least your mom may be alive.  I watched as some officer said, 'We don't deal with terrorists' and cut the transmisson.  They sedated me and dragged me of the bridge."

Kenin shook her head. "Do they ever even think about the consequences, about the people who have to live with it..."  She sighed.  "My mother was killed later in some bombing on the city...but she really wasn't my mother so much any more.  I hadn't even seen her in a couple weeks..."

Then she shrugged.  "But we're here to have a good time, right?  I mean, I can worry about stuff at home.  What is there to do for fun around here?"

"Hi...wow!  You look great!"  She grinned, then shrugged.  "I'm sorry, I don't have much else besides this...I mean, at least not on the station...I hope it's all right?"  She was still wearing the black pants and loose 'pirate-style' shirt.

"I assume you know how to use a weapon.  This is a Henry repeating rifle, and this is a Colt navy revolver," he said almost gleaful "If you ever took history this is simulation is just before the American Civil War. "  Patrick tapped a few numbers and inserted a data disk.

The doors opened to a desert trail near a mesa.  Two horses, one paint and one grey.  "Come on get up,"  Patrick swung up on the grey "Riding a horse is simple.  We've got to get into town before the bandits.  They plan to rob the Overland Stage, come on!"

"Ah, sure..."  She nodded, knowing now some of what he was talking about.  She had been a good student and had enjoyed history in particular.  "Like cowboys and stuff?"  Well, that sounded exciting!  Something she and her brother had played with their friends, but never with the advantages of a holodeck...as a matter of fact, the holodeck was not something she had a great deal of experience with, and she was looking forward to it!

The doors opened to a desert trail near a mesa.  Two horses, one paint and one grey.  "Come on get up,"  Patrick swung up on the grey "Riding a horse is simple.  We've got to get into town before the bandits.  They plan to rob the Overland Stage, come on!"

"All right!"  Grinning, she grabbed the horn and cantle on the saddle and finally managed to climb onto the horse.  Gripping the horn, she turned the horse to follow after him.  "So, how does this gun work?"  She'd used a phaser, and a dagger, but never anything like this...

"Yeah like cowboys except... in here i'm Sargent Sam Edison 2nd United states Dragoons.  The Henry's a lever action rifle.  You load the cartridges in the butt of the rifle in a tube, when you want to reload you force the trigger guard down and the cartrige comes into the chamber.  With the pistol, it's a cap and ball I cartridge converted.  All you have to do to pull the hammer back and squeeze the trigger.  To reload you fick open a hatch on the left side and insert the cartridge boxes.  On your saddle horn there should be two cartridge boxes," Patrick cantered the grey untill the reached the edge of town.

He swung down off his horse leaving the Hall in the saddle holster.  He took the reigns and walked down the street to a building that said 'Diamond Saloon'.  Just then a young man came running out smack into Patrick knocking him down.  "I'm sorry Sarn't!" the young man exclaimed.  "Were's the fire Tom?" he asked.  A women came running out with a double barrel shotgun, "Get out of here Tomas James Haney!"
"Whoa Miss Lilly, what's Tom done?" Patrick said putting himself in the line of fire.  "He broke my new clock from Denver, and i've had it.  I'm chasing him out of here for good!" the women yelled freinzied.   "No you don't Lilly, here's what i'll do.  I'm gonna put Tom in the Miner's Hotel for the night to let you both calm down," He said keeping his voice quiet. "Alright Sargent," she uncocked the gun and went inside. "Go Tom, i'll talk to your mother take this gold five dollar and get a room."

Tom walked away and Patrick went inside.  Miss Lilly was behind the bar and smiled as he came in, "I see you got yourself a women Sargent."  "No ma'm, this here's my cousin Kenin," he said smiling back.  "Oh really Sam I thought you'd finally got a life," a man at the bar slurred.  "Drunk by noon Sheriff, thats even early for you," he grimaced.  The man stood up, and prompally fell down.  "have you heard anything about Red Harrison Lilly," Patrick said nonchalantly. "Yeah, he's alreadyn ridden to rob the Overland at Will's Springs and Sheriff didn't stop him," she frowned

"Come on Kenin let's go," Patrick stood up dashed out and jumped on his horse, hitting his flanks and riding out of town.

For this first scenario, Kenin tagged along, staying in the background, watching, ready to intervene if he needed it.  Then she grinned and scrambled onto her horse, holding on for dear life as it bolted after his.  She was grinning as her hair flew in the wind, having a great time playing!  And the scenery was different, unlike anything she'd seen on Allura...and a small part of her enjoyed seeing this glimpse of the homeworld that she had never been to before.

Patrick galloped up through a high pass, the higher they went the snowier it got.  When they finally got to a small low lying building it was snowing heavily.  He had put on his overcoat a few miles back so he was warm.  Patrick opened the door to the stage station, inside there was an old man throwing wood in a stove.  He stamped off the snow and adressed the man, "I'm back Pecos!" "Good, good, sarn't," Pecos said absently.  "Have you seen Red Harrison? he plans to rob the Overland," he frowned.  "No, but the stage is due in.... twenty minutes," he said standing up and turning to the side.  He pulled out three venison steaks and put them on the stove, "Supper's in thirty minutes," Pecos said.

Patrick stood up, "Thanks Pecos."  He stood up, as he walked out he tossed Kenin a fur coat.  He went outside and pointed up to a minor ridge on the left.  "We're gonna set up a cross fire, I want you to go up on that ridge, i'll be on the right.  Harrison will probably come out of that draw.  Harrison's got red hair, he travels with an arapaho indian," he unslung the carbine from his horse "I suggest you hide your horse.  Patrick took it back to the stable and put him in.  He started up the ridge on the right.  He layed down and flicked the back sight up and zeroed it in.  He pulled back the hammer and put the cap on and waited.

Huddled into he coat, Kenin looked down at the trail and house below.  This was a great deal of fun!  Well, it was cold laying on the ground, but the coat was keeping her warm.  Her heart was racing at the thought of getting into the shoot out.  It would be cool, playing...of course, there was the little niggling at the back of her brain about the man she had killed, but she'd had no choice...he would have killed Rael, then done worse to her...

Enough of that!  This was play, and no one was really going to get hurt.  Controlling her breathing, she waited for the bad guys!
