Title: Welcome Ceremony Post by Wado on Feb 10th, 2006, 6:55pm The large arena area the Serenity crew had put together for the competition was quite impressive. Despite the constant 'battles' Rear Admiral Duerkes was having with Vice Admiral Jefferson, he did have to give the man credit there. His crew did a fine job preparing. Even if there was some difficulties behind the scenes. On the main floor of the arena a platform was set up on one end. In the center of it stood a glass podium with a tiny microphone. Scattered around the main floor stood all the warriors competing. The rest of the arena seats were full to capacity with any general attendy that managed to get there early enough. Camera were again in place to broadcast the event to others in the starbase and across the galaxy. The head technitian gave the signal thar broadcast was reday to begin. As Admiral Jefferson approached the main podium, the rumbling of conversations in the crowd started to subside. A small pinging sound vibrated through the arena to bring everyone to order. "Ladies and gentlemen, it is my honour to welcome you all to Serenity Base for this the 4th annual betleH Competition. I must say it is an honour to have been chosen to host this event. Now please let me hand you over to the head judge, Rear Admiral Duerkes" The crowd appluaded as Duerkes approached the microphone. Wade looked out to the competitors the same way he did for the previous three years. As in years past it didn't matter if he recognized them or not. He could tell by the look in their eyes the type of warrior they were. They were all ready to get things started. As was Wade. "Greetings. I would like to echo Admiral Jeffersons comments and welcome you all. Three years ago I approached Bravofleet with a vision I had. I wanted to bring together the best that Bravofleet had to offer into a single competition. A competition that would challenge, enlighten and change all those who attended. In doing this, not only would it be a demonstration of the fine members we have in Bravofleet, but it would also act as a means to strength us. To bring those in Bravofleet closer together as a community. If we could do this just once, then it would be worth it. And to be able to stand here now at the start of the fourth competition, to me just proves that if you want to see the best in action, you will seem in here in Bravofleet!" A roar of approval went up in the crowd. Granted it helped that a majority present were members of Bravofleet, but Wade wasn't just playing to the crowd. He was just speaking from the heart. "I would like to again share with you some words of wisdom that I have kept with me over the years. 'That which does not kill us, only makes us stronger.'" *Wade then paused before he continued* "Use these event as a chance to make something stronger. Be it your heritage, your fleet, or yourself. Whatever your reasons, may you do it with honor. Thank you." As the crowd cheered, Wade stepped to the side to allow his blood brother to step forward. |
Title: Re: Welcome Ceremony Post by K`Hare totlh on Feb 11th, 2006, 3:22am K'Hare stepped up and looked at the crowd. So many were not Klingon, but at least they tried. He'd been one of the skeptical ones. He’d come to the first tournament as a fighter because no one from his ship, a ship he’d just learned no longer existed, would go. He’d been ready to resign then, to walk away from this duty that forced him to be around so many from the federation. It had not started well. He was forced to injure his first opponent to such an extreme that she was forced to withdrawn and he didn’t even try to fight the next one. Another young human just looking for the win. So he gave it too him and he still didn’t learn the lesson he needed. So long ago it was. When it was done he attacked this Captain Duerkes and told him everything that was wrong with the tournament… and for his reward, the next year, Wade made him a judge and simply said, ‘put up or shut up’. This crowd, the last few years, showed that something good had come from it all after all. How had he become friend to a bolian and, he grinned, a not-bolian. And now this Duerkes was his brother and a member of the House he had looked outward for, and finally found in himself. “If you cannot fail, you cannot succeed.” He paused about to drink until he realized he didn’t have a tankard near. “Those are my personal ‘words of wisdom’. Many are here to compete for the combat award but only one can take it home. It is not always the one who gains it who put up the best fight. In my first year I saw a small human female accept her first round defeat with honor. That was not what I remember though… I remember how she stayed conscious and walked proudly off the floor and out of view before she passed out from the compound fracture of both arms. She had done more than she thought possible through will alone.” He paused so that the crowd could consider that point. “You will win matches, you will lose matches. But the test isn’t in that one match. It is against yourself and your own ability to hold to your honor. You may lose matches many times here, but only you can determine if you are defeated. To be Klingon you must know your limits. That is why we test ourselves. To be Klingon you must overcome your limits. That is why we test ourselves. If you cannot fail, if there is no chance to lose, then what can winning mean? We are here find our limits, to make each action improve ourselves, to be better now than we were a moment ago. This is what it means to BE Klingon.” They stared back at him while they thought about what he said. It wasn’t the speech they expected. So he gave them what they wanted. “There is test enough here for everyone. Even those who are watching the matches can learn. This is not simply a game, it, like everything is a test if you can hear the questions. You are surrounded by the chance to learn new things. This event is a target rich environment. So watch and learn. Be better when you leave here than when you arrived and you will have been victorious! Qapla’!” |
Title: Re: Welcome Ceremony Post by K`Hare totlh on Feb 11th, 2006, 3:27am OFF: This thread is locked. Other judges or officials might add something to what happens on the stage but you can now start theads for reactions to the speeches and bumping into new faces. Each little group of people can start a new thread in this area so that the conversations of people can be followed. So if you are out of ear shot of one group, make it a new thread. New threads in this area should be things that happen right as the welcome starts, after it, but before dinner time. |
Title: Re: Welcome Ceremony Post by nadrojneirbo on Feb 12th, 2006, 10:37pm After K'Hare stepped down, Droj took the podium. It was impressive that his event had continued to grow massively inside. "Welcome all of you to the fourth betleH tournament! My colleagues, one of the Starfleet and one of the KDF and myself a humble civilian are pleased to be able to preside over this honourable test of mettle." He smiled over the crowd as some grunted and cheered in approval. "I will not ramble on, you've heard all of the important points from my honourable colleagues and your not hear to hear speeches but rather the cries of battle. To the competitors, I which you the best of success. My honour find us all. Qapla'!" |
