Nez stood near the edge of the crowed, the words spoken my Jefferson, Duerkes and K'Hare meant nothing to him. There was no profit to be found in speaking like that. Nez had found the profit in betleH earlier in the day, watching the ships appear had given him a brainwave, only someone with lobes such as his would ever think of it. Certainly idiot's like Flim and Flam wouldn't, betting? How would that net them a proper yield?

Looking in to the crowed he scanned for a suitable mark, almost instantly he saw a Bolian who had crossed his path a few times already. More money than sense was definately a label for this guy.

It made Nez wonder if it would be possible, it certainly seemed that way.

"In for a strip, in for a bar" he muttered to himself as he surged forward to begin his patter.

Always up for a challenge, Kenin was in pick-pocket heaven! Not that she'd actually do that here, or anywhere, for that matter, after promising Rael she would stop such things...and she really didn't need to anymore, now that she had a home and food and stuff. But it couldn't hurt to keep her skills...she could certainly practice...

Picking a mark, she started toward him. The man was a Ferengi, a species she had heard about but never run into personally. He sure didn't look very imposing...kinda wrinkly, and short...

Taking a breath, she concentrated on keeping her gait and her appearance casual as she bumped into him and slipped a hand into his pocket...

The feeling of someone picking your pocket was something a Ferengi never forgot, in their younger years they practiced lifting things of each other in the playground.

Despite his rapidly advancing age Nez knew someone was picking his pocket, moving quicker than anyone would expect a Ferengi too he plunged his own hand in to his pocket only to find a soft hand already there. Momentarily he froze, this was the first time he had ever found a pick pocket with hands like that.

Turning Nez found himself facing a rather beautiful young lady the chide that was on his lips disappeared as his mind was filled with thoughts of her hands and his lobes.....

A few moments passed in silence before Nez said "Your quite skilled, ever thought of making a career out of this?"

Kenin let out an 'eep' and tried to pull her hand away, then she froze, waiting to see if he would call out to Security. But when he didn't, she relaxed just a little. "Once, I did, but things have changed and I really don't need to any more..." Then she smiled innocently, something the seventeen year old was good at. "I was just practicing, honestly. I wouldn't have taken anything..." Of course, there was no reason for him to believe her...

"Pull the other one hewmon" Said Nez still holding the young girls hand "You were looking for an easy mark"

The Ferengi looked up and grinned "To coin an earth phrase, it's sloppy to try and play a player"

Nez wondered if she would get his meaning.

"I'm not playing..." She raised her chin defiantly. "I did make a living at this, and picking locks and..." When would she learn to keep her mouth shut? Softening, she smiled at him, finding it a little hard to take someone who looked like that seriously...Of course, he was an adult...a very old one from the looks of him, and he was dressed nicely, so he should be taken seriously.

"I could tell by looking at you, sir, that you were anything but an easy mark. That's why I chose you. Where is the challenge in an easy mark...sir.?"

Nez smiled showing his crooked teeth to the girl, his teeth while perfect for eating tube grubs wasn't so good for endearing himself to hewmons.

"No little girl, what I meant was you don't try and pick the pocket of a pick pocket. I admit your good, but there are more" he coughed "Lucrative ways of making latinum at this event"

Nez left the conversation open for Kenin to question him further, she could be of use to him in his endevours. Especially if he needed someone to put in the way of stampeeding Klingon's.

Phoebe caught sight of the young girl her pirates had taken in some time before. And what was this? Kenin was with a ferengi. There was no necessary bets as to what a ferengi plans was during such a active tournament. Maybe she was just stereotyping but she doubted it by the way he grinned.

Pity she did not have supernatural hearing to hear what was going on. Phoebe had only beamed down to the starbase from the casino ship a mere hour ago and already she saw she would have to flex her proverbial muscles. Yes her clan may be still small compared to people like the orion syndicate but she still knew all things on the wrong side of the law and she wasn't going to allow Kenin to be manipulated.

She moved forward through the crowds, her hand moved for a moment before she reached Nez and Kenin. "There is not a problem here is there?" she spoke before raising an eyebrow in question.

Nez couldn't believe his luck two beautiful hewmon females had crossed his path in the same day and from the looks they were giving each other he guessed they knew each other. His brain in motion Nez began trying to figure out what to say or do in reply, telling them really couldn't hurt being an Ambassador meant he was bullit proof on the station right now. Even if Security found him he couldn't be arrested.

"I'm not a little girl, old man." She glared at him, then shrugged. "You have ideas for making latinum, huh? Are they legal? I kinda have to keep my nose clean, you know..." Grinning, she stuck her hand out at him. "Ken..." Oh, heck, she'd done it again! "Kenin. Pleased to make your acquaintance, sir." Maybe he would at least ease the boredom for a while! "I'm sorry I called you old...I mean, you really don't look that old!"

Phoebe moved forward through the crowds, her hand moved for a moment before she reached Nez and Kenin. "There is not a problem here is there?" she spoke before raising an eyebrow in question.

"and most likely hoodwinking the poor girl" replied Phoebe immediately. "Kenin is under my protection and unsullied by certain practices" she spoke before whipping some stolen slips of latinum out of Kenin's pocket. "well at least not completely turned rotten" she added after a moment. "Any venture that you mention requires a definite fifty/fifty split, with no negotiations if it is accepted"

Nez sucked some air through his teeth, he was unaware that he had picked up the manuver from the Human's he had lived around "Well, I was going to offer the girl a 60/40 split, but I'm sure I can let you have 10% for taking part too"

He grinned again at his joke.

Phoebe grinned as well before her expression turned serious at the flick of a mental switch. "As long as you know that I will be watching you and I will find out if you try to do anything backhanded. I am fully capable of dealing with you and getting away with seconds before anyone realises what happened" she spoke this last sentence with a seemingly serene smile on her face. "of course there is a 3% extra purely for Kenin" she added as a afterthought. "which you will accept won't you" she questioned with big sad puppy eyes. Phoebe was the manipulative type and was currently testing what would work with the little ferengi what would not.

"But..." Kenin frowned. "Hello? I'm here, you know?" Stupid adults! And stupid, pretty, old enough Phoebe!

Sighing dramatically, she rolled her eyes. "I was not stealing! That's my money, I had it when I got here..." Of course, they wouldn't believe her, likely, and that was her own fault for what she had started out to be..well, and for spending time with pirates. "I told....someone that I would stay out of trouble, and I meant it...mostly..."

Nez just kept smiling, he wasn't going to stick up for the girl. A few more strips in his pocket would be fine by him, even if it came at the expense of the poor girl

Plus he was sure she'd be happy with the bars she would recieve, 3% of a starship was quite a big prize.

Smiling at the second woman he spoke "Well, actually since you have just cheated her out of a 40% cut it would be fair for you to pay the girl her 5%, you've also dealt me out of 10% so I can't see why I would pay extra?"

"3% for her, I will lower to 48% that will allow you get a percent more than everyone else" she replied before glancing to Kenin "I'm not stupid girl I can telling when you have been or have the intention of taking things. Raiding vessels is much more satisfying and yields you more, I show you how to do that" she murmured to Keniin before looking back at Nez. "I may allow Kenin more but such negotiations would happen back on Allura 9"

"But it's my money..." Kenin sighed and shook her head. Well, she had certainly learned her lesson on this, and would be more careful in the future. In the mean time, she was going to have to do a lot more mooching if she was going to have any fun on this trip!

Nez screwed up his eyes for a moment before replying "Done" He said as he took hold of Phoebe's hand to shake it, and of course to take the strips from her.

Leaning accross to Kenin he grinned "Keep watching, maybe you'll learn a thing or two about the business"

Frowning skeptically, she nodded. Still, she liked the man, and if he was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt that she might actually have some talent and ability despite her age, she was willing to relent. Besides, he was old, so that meant he had a good deal of knowledge and experience, right. "You realize that isn't much of a challenge, don't you?" No sense letting him think he had the upper hand. "I know some, but not nearly enough...and I'm a good learner...we'll have to see what kind of teacher you are..." Of course, she may not have been so bold without Phoebe here.

Phoebe stood back and allowed Kenin to kind of take some control. But not before she loosen the strips that Nez had taken from her hand. Did he expect she would allow him to just take something that wasn't his? that waas indeed a contradiction when it came to Phoebe "why yes, this one could possbily not know anything at all about anything" she commented with a small smile before slipping the slips back to their rightful owner Kenin.

ooc - the way I interpretated it was that he went to take them, it didn't say if he actually got hold of them as there was room for Phoebe to prevent him from taking them. But I can change it but it would changed to Phoebe taking them back as they are Kenin's in the first place.
