There have been a few changes tonight.

First, all Fighters will see they can no longer edit their combat skills. I did the final review tonight and having someone change their settings after I did that would invalidate my review.

Second, there is a new database in the db.cgi app. You will note it looks just like the challenge room. It uses the same engine but doesn't work exactly the same way. This area is populated by me. You will note there are 17 matches there. Those are the first 17 matches of the tourney. The matchups are there, the results are not. I have done this a little early so that each fighter knows who they are fighting next. This also allows the gambling to happen if you can find flim or flam long enough to make a wager.

Phase I still hasn't happened. I will make that area available tomorrow. Again, in Phase I, each fighter posts the text of a match against some NPC of his creation. You win of course. This is a qualifier to compete. In character, the judges are looking to make sure no one incompetent goes to the next rounds. Phase II is 7 matches in random pairings for all the PC fighters. The top 16 of these move to phase III and a standard bracket. Top 16 means best win-loss record and high glory and honor in case of ties. (Top 16 when clicking the Win button on the stat program.)

So, the first set of pairings is posted even though Phase I hasn't happened. Again, to give you extra time to find your way around. On monday (late) I will run the script to make those 17 fights happen and then post the next 17 matchups. This will go quick. For Round 1 of phase II I may be lienient on people who have problems with thier settings. After that, only your honor setting matters since you can no longer edit your betleH skills.

Do the fighters understand what the fighting stance thing is? Fighting with Honor and all that?

I'd expect most NPCs to fight with honor or neutral. Great Honor is a disadvantage but does add to your Honor. Basically, with Honor you don't take advantage of your opponent, and Great Honor you step back when he is about to fall so its harder to do the 'kill shot'. You have to get a good hit in. Dishonor you try to take advantage and great dishonor you cheat a little, but not enough to get caught.

You can look at the matches in the sparring room for examples.

And just so you know, there is a 1/500,000 chance that one fighter will knock another out. So far, its only happened once on KDB. But it is, however unlikely, possible for anyone to beat anyone.

I was kind of wondering about answering the challenge myself. How would we go about doing that or do we just contact the person we are supposed to fight here? I'm a little lost on that one

Exactly.

I will post the matches in the phaseII room. About 24 hours later (but I did it early this time) I will run a script to make the 17 matches happen. Your stance from your bio will be used... that's why its there. After the matches complete (you will get email for your match) I will then run the script to make the next 17 random matches. You get email for that, can examine your opponent, and then set the fighting stance in your bio.

I have to appoligize for the lack of FAQs and stuff to explain this. This year we are adding the combat app and the review of all the characters and their combat settings and such takes a great deal of time. Also, its a busy time in RL for all the judges and the Host CO is doing a great job picking up the slack.

But, that's why we have this question area. I am getting a lot of questions directly to me in email too. Please post questions here. Other players might be able to answer you quicker (seems that T'ealk has figure out the sparring room). In a few days I will be caught up. For next year, I should have plenty of time to add instructions as well as having the results of the sparring room and phase II to point out as examples.

If I understand this correctly well be fighting two matches then? In Round i and Round II. Sorry but I'm really confused on this.

Phase I was your qualifying match. You wrote and posted that.

Phase II is 7 matches. This is a change from last year.

So over the next 7 days you will fight 7 times.

Then the top 16 will go to normal single elimination brackets.

Personally I think this was a very clever change. *pats self on back and does Ego-do kata* It lets everyone have more matches and hopefully is more fun for everyone. It means you can lose and reface someone if luck is with you. It can setup rivalries.

Now that our second match in phase II is complete do we post that in the round 1 area or will a new area be made later on for that posting?

The round 1 area is for the first round fights only. I'd imagine K'Hare will put up areas (or maybe just a new forum header to save space) for each round of these seven.

There's some time to prepare a JP/Post before the area is put up. But the Round 1 area is for round one fights only (for example, my match with K'Vok would go there, but my match with Taylor, I would have to wait until a seperate area is put up for round two fights to avoid confusion).

Oops. I will add it now.

Or maybe Taylor took care of it. (:} If anyone still can't see round 2 tell me. It looks like it should be there now.
