Title: What to feed a Caitian?

<< Taylor's Quarters - Serenity Base >>

Dan had been waiting for Jackie to arrive for over an hour, thankfully the pain he had felt earlier was starting to disappate. He hadn't wanted to go see the bases doctor. Explaining how he got a knee in the neather regions or more importantly why he got them wouldn't have been fun.

Several asprin's and a cold pack had sorted him, at least well enough for him to start moving again. PErhaps by tomorrow he would be feeling the effects again, if so he could always take himself to sickbay.

'I'm kidding myself' thought Dan as he looked to the table in front of him again. IT was true, he hadn't been waiting for Jackie to arrive. He knew he could easily call her up here earlier if he wanted.

No, his mind was pre-occupied by one thing which was signified by that little black box on the desk.

A little over an hour ago Starfleet Intelligence had contacted him once again, this time with an ultimatum. Return to the fleet, or be cut off from Starfleet forever, more importantly if he was cut off Scardia's help would be too.

It was tantamount to blackmail, yet Dan didn't mind. The mere thought of that scared him.

At some point, perhaps even before betleH he had made the mental decision to rejoin the fleet, all it would have taken to arrrange would have been a single subspace message. Yet he had held off doing it, prefering instead to keep his civilian status, it allowed him to run if he decided too. He was a part of Starfleet but not at the same time, it was his comfort zone.

In one fell swoop that zone was being taken from him by Starfleet once again, he was being forced to embrace something before he was truely ready.

In the end that was the thought that scared him most, his life and career was being manipulated again, and this time he wasn't sure he minded.

He had already sent his reply to Starfleet Intelligence, truth be told that was the easy part. Now he was left with the harder part, the personal battle. In the months since his resignation at the last betleH Competition Dan had on occasion been forced to wear a uniform, but never any insignia of rank. The small black box in front of him would change that, and his relationship with most of the people aboard the station, including John.

He just wasn't sure he was ready to do that.

12 months of relative freedom, 12 months without having to watch his p's and q's, 12 months that just had to end now.

He reached forward his hand shaking and picked the box off of his desk, sliently he opened it and pulled out the contents. He stared at them for a few moments before walking in to his bedroom.

When he returned 5 minutes later he stood in front of a full length mirror, his duty jump suit gone instead it was replaced by an admiral's uniform complete with a set of Rear Admiral's pips. He had to admit he had missed the feeling that came with it.

Now he just had to put up with the next few days, he simply wasn't sure how those who knew him would react.

Tag Jess, dinner in my quarters ;)

<<Outside of Taylor's Quarters>>

Jackie adjusted her uniform’s tunic slightly, not that it needed adjustment but it was something she did when not too sure of her decision. She now stood in front of Dan Taylor’s quarters having been invited there shortly before her qualifying match; which she managed to win, albeit not without taking damage herself before knocking her opponent’s weapon out of his hands; but that damage in the form of a 5 inch cut across the top of her left hand didn’t bother Jackie as much; rather she didn’t let it bother her and sported it more as a reminder rather than ‘damage’. A Reminder that she wasn’t fast enough against her opponent and she’d simply have to do better during the next match. Just for that she refused to go to sickbay, considering it nothing more than a scratch, which it was in the end anyway.

She had to admit she quite enjoyed the battle, it made her feel alive again. She had to wonder what was yet to come, but for now she had other things to worry about. Like dinner with Dan Taylor. She wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from the man, not after what he’d managed to come up with so far.

With a light shrug, she rang the chime, preparing herself for the unknown; and as the doors parted Jackie was taken aback yet again. The Caitian did a curious double take as she saw Taylor clad in Starfleet admiralty uniform complete with Rear Admiral’s rank pips.

“Well, you’re just full of surprises these days, aren’t you, Rear Admiral Taylor?” Jackie said cocking her head lightly as she looked him over once again.  She had to admit, he looked good in an admiral’s uniform; for a human anyway.

"You will find I am full of surprises this is but one of the many that will appear during betleH this year" He opened his arms wide "please come in, I thought I might actually cook for you today."

He stepped back to allow the Caitian to enter as the door swished shut behind her, "Now we've got a choice, I wasn't entirely sure what your tastes would be. Either stake, fish or I can whip up a vegetable stir fry"

"One of many? is that a promise or a threat, Admiral?" she asked with a light smirk, not quite sure how to refer to him now.

"Heh.. you weren't sure of something like my tastes? I do believe you're slipping a little" she smiled. " Steak, fish, vegetables" she shrugged. "I'm really not too picky about my food as long as there's coffee at the end, unless you have something better" she half joked, but really if he did manage to whip up something better than coffee, she doubted she would be too surprised given Taylor's track record with these things so far. "what are your tastes like?" she inquired

Dan laughed as he said "All of the above!"

"But I do like a nice piece of steak I have to say" He smiled once more "And Jackie, please call me Dan. We're the same rank, we are peer's, even if I'm not necessarly in the same Chain of Command as you"

"Now, as I said. The decision is yours, what are we eating?"

K'Hare used the computer and a PADD to find Taylor's room and rang the chime.   Tapping his foot unconscicously, he waited for the door to open.

Title: Re: What to feed a Caitian?

Dan turned to face the door as it chimed, his head flicked back to Jackie as confusion reigned within his brain. Since Jackie had arrived he wasn't expecting anyone else.

"Excuse me Jackie" he said as he walked over to the door, as it slid back he exlaimed "K'Hare!"

Title: Re: What to feed a Caitian?

The Caitian was about to reply when the chime sounded, Jackie's reply would have to wait until he found out who was at the door. She nodded lightly as he went to answer the door, Jackie's ears flickered lightly as Dan said the name of the arrival.

She turned, coming into view of the two males.

"K'Hare totlh" she nodded lightly in a manner of greeting, pronouncing the phrase with a slight hint of a Caitian accent. Jackie had to wonder what brought the Klingon here, but that would either wait or get answered in the next few moments. Either way Jackie was curious to see the Klingon here and now.

K'Hare stepped in a few steps and suddenly stopped short.  "Oh... I didn't realize we would have a third.  Jackie, TFCO of 58 I assume?"

K'Hare seemed in a better mood then he had been earlier.

Title: Re: What to feed a Caitian?
Post by Jackie Clawson on Feb 14th, 2006, 6:42am

Jackie nodded.

"Indeed." she said, curious he used her first name, but she didn't really mind considering things.

She watched the Klingon for a few moments, recalling her encounter with toreQ; betting that things were about to get more interesting with the totlh's arrival.

Title: Re: What to feed a Caitian?
Post by Taylor on Feb 14th, 2006, 6:44am

Dan laughed "No K'Hare your the third, didn't I tell you I was treating Jackie to dinner tonight?" he laughed "Not that it matters, if you can stomach Human food that is"

Title: Re: What to feed a Caitian?

K'Hare looked serious.  "You are going to cook it... aren't you?"

He frowned.  "I can tolerate it... as long as its still got some blood in it."  Then he sat in the other chair smiling and looked around, wondering where Dan would sit.

Title: Re: What to feed a Caitian?
Post by Jackie Clawson on Feb 14th, 2006, 7:07am

Jackie watched the exchange with high curiousity, slightly amused at the 'banter' of sorts between the human and the Klingon.

"Is his cooking that bad?" she inquired, slightly raising her eyebrow noticing K'Hare's frown at the mention of Dan cooking.

Title: Re: What to feed a Caitian?
Post by Taylor on Feb 14th, 2006, 7:16am

Dan gave K'Hare a mock glare "He wouldn't know I've never cooked for him"

He turned to smile to Jackie "But I think it will be the steak since K'Hare has arrived" he glanced back to K'Hare "if he can pay for his meal, no uninvited guest should turn up empty handed" he winked to Jackie as spoke as if he knew something she didn't. He didn't of course, but he had a gut feeling K'Hare would prove him right.

"I left it outside the door.  I wanted to see how long it would be before you asked."  He looked over at Jackie.  "I am trying to teach him to be more bold, more blunt.  This is something humans have problem with.  As to the cooking, it isn't his cooking, it is any cooking.  Such an act takes all the flavor from the meat.  I would have expected the caitian to enjoy live food too."

Title: Re: What to feed a Caitian?
Post by Jackie Clawson on Feb 14th, 2006, 7:33am

Jackie smirked lightly in reply to Dan.

Jackie raised an eyebrow curiously at K'Hare, wondering what he brought, half suspecting it would be the bloodwine Taylor supplied aboard the Horizon during his short stay there. But at this stage she wasn't too sure of what to expect except to take things as they were when they popped up.

"I think he might've been practicing the bold and blunt parts on me already" Jackie noted, recalling the way Taylor brought her to the tournament for starters. "And you are correct, cooking does take all the flavour from the meat" she nodded. "Live food is best food, especially if it is freshly ... captured" Jackie smiled, despite the fact that it's been awhile since she actually DID catch any live food given such was hard to find aboard a starship on most days.

K'Hare raised an eyebrow.  He hadn't considered the species and its habits much.  He had studied it some, more than anyone would suspect, but that was not part of his study.  He looked and Clawson and smiled, "Have you every hunted targh?"

Title: Re: What to feed a Caitian?

Jackie shook her head.

"Nope. I've not been to Qu'noS." she said. "but from what I've studied, it must be quite an experience" she said. "mind you, hunting is an experience everytime you do it." She smiled, briefly revealing her fangs.

"Any proper Klingon colony will have imported targhmey, Sarghmey, maybe even a D'bloq farm as well as Klingon flora.  Klach D'kel Brakt has hunting easily as good as Qo'noS."

"Ah!" Jackie spoke. "This is the first time I've been amongst so many Klingons, K'Hare" she admitted with a bit of a smile. "I've wanted to since I was a Liuetenant Commander though. I find your ways... admirable" she said, wondering if that wasthe right word to choose to describe it. "to say the very least" she added.

Title: Re: What to feed a Caitian?

Dan left the Klingon and the Caitian discussing hunting as he walked in to his small kitchen area, his status granted him a fairly large room almost as large as Johns. Of course it was too large for him, he would have prefered a normal single billet. But Starfleet hadn't consulted him.

"Taylor to ops" He said as he tapped his comm badge "Sir?" Came the reply.

"I have an unexpected dinner guest, please do me a huge favour and have a small amount of gagh transported to my location" a thought flashed through his mind along with a wince then he added "in some kind of container"

The voice on the other side of the comm laughed "Consider it done sir, we'll add it to your tab"

"You do that ops" Said Dan with a smile "Rear Admiral Taylor out"

He stopped dead as he cut the link, without realising it he had slipped back in to a starfleet persona. How many times in the last year had he signed off as Civilian Intelligence Specialist Taylor? Once, twice or possibly never.

Shaking his head he turned towards the sound of a transporter beam, it deposited a fairly large pot of gagh on to his table. Putting the thoughts of rank and postings from his mind he turned on the cooker in his room and left a large shallow pan to warm, hefting the pot of gagh he carried it through to the main room and dumped it in front of K'Hare?

"Suitable?" He asked with a wry smile "or would you prefer I send you back to KDB to hunt your own?"

K'Hare looked up without pausing.  "That depends... what kind of poison do you have?"  He wasn't kidding.

OFF: Ooooh worms... yum!

ON:

Jackie stole a glance at the dish Taylor placed before K'Hare, letting out a chuckle as the Klingon and the human exchanged words.

"Well Dan, do you always have some gagh lying around here so in case K'Hare drops in you have something for him?" She flashed Dan a smile as she started to wonder what hunting was like on KDB.

"Only during betleH season, I had a hunch he might pop by at some point" He smiled at Jackie as he spoke "As for the poision K'Hare, I'm not sure. Ambassador Nez assures me it's something that you will enjoy"

He winked to Jackie as he spoke "I did warn him that you might have issues of honour to settle with him if you didn't like it, I think that was enough to unsure he was above board with me."

Title: Re: What to feed a Caitian?
Post by K`Hare totlh on Feb 16th, 2006, 6:22am

K'Hare pulled out his Daqtagh and used it to stir up the qagh.  He was used to the poison being on the side, not in a pool on the bottom.  Already some at the bottom had died.   So they wouldn't squirm... they were still fresh.

He got the worms stirred up and now they were really writing in death throws.  He grabbed a handful, popped them into his mouth, and wiped his hands on his armor.  It was OK, better than he expected at a fed base.  He hadn't ever considered the food advantages of being on KDB...  for him, the drink was always the focus.  Reminded, he got up and went to the door to fetch the small keg himself.

Jackie chuckled in responce to Dan as she watched K'Hare make his way with the gagh. She blinked as he withdrew his Daqtagh, a weapon the Caitain was quite familiar with on both sides: the sending and the receiving.  Her ears flickered lightly as she eyed the Daqtagh, quite curious as to how the Klingon handled the weapon even for a simple task such as that.

Jackie smirked as watched K'Hare stir the worms then pop a handful in his mouth then get up and head for the door.

Dan returned to the Kitchen as K'Hare left the room, opening his fridge he pulled out the meat he had bought earlier. Chilling it wasn't necessary, he just prefered to do it as they would have in the old days.

Grabbing one of his pans from the shelf he turned his cooker on and warmed the pan.

Sticking his head in to the room he said "Jackie, your going to have to tell me how rare you want it"

Jackie gave Dan a sly grin.

"Surprise me" she said. "You seem to have a good track record with that so far"

"Come on" he said as his head disappeared in to the Kitchen once more, he grabbed both steaks and threw them in to the now hot pan. They sizzled as the meat sealed on one side, after a few moments he fliped them to allow the other side to seal too.

"So how do you want them? Mine are always well done"

Jackie stood up and made her way to the kitchen. Watching the human work in there, she smirked crossing her arms and leaning against the doorway.

"What's the matter? Running out of surprises for me, already?" she asked, chuckling lightly. "medium rare will do, I suppose" she said.

K'Hare had brought the keg in and was preparing it while listening to the conversation.

"I suppose 'mooing' is out of the question now."

Jackie raised an eyebrow, quizically.

"'mooing'?" she queried the Klingon, looking out of the kitchen to give him a curious look.
