Title: Awards
Post by Grenn on Feb 28th, 2006, 4:57pm

Seeing as we had a knockout this year, and they are exceptionally rare....

What would it take to create a new award for just this kind of rare outcome?

Known as "The Iron Skull Award" given for winning/loosing by knockout ;)

* facepalms

hey in that case we should also have the "I beat Ta'pez's ass " award since those are rare too :P

Ain't I exceptionally rare now?! :D

No, I think that just gives you bragging rights.   So far, knockout has only happened twice in all the runs of the combat app.

Who knows the other time?

that would be something based of whim - i could assign my character to loose @ whim so no award

I'm cool with no award.

But poQ....

No it would not be.

Jackie lost by Knockout in the combat program's random order of things. See Phase II, Round 5, Match 14, Korenz v Clawson

http://betleh.batlh.com/cgi-bin/db/db.cgi?shipname=phaseII&crewman=phaseII_done_Round05Match14

That would have been the only way to win the award. So far she is only the second person since this program was created to loose by knockout. I believe the odds were about 500,000 to 1 on that.

So it would be totally random, and you could not just write your character winning by knockout.

Again... no biggie on having no award for this. Just a random suggestion. Ideas are the only way to improve things after all, so its always worth it to bring one up :D

Nothing wrong with bringing it up and yes, it happens so rarely it should be mentioned IC somehow and Jackie did that.  But since it is random, I wouldn't give out an award for it.

But nothing stops you from doing a knockout IC even though I run the app and use Disarm to run the match.

Nay.. no award's needed for this really.. I mean.. heh. not exactly an award type thing since it's random completely; but it  gives you freedom to use the stuff IC and that's what I did. I've not planned on getting a KO, but I used it IC nevetheless. It's a random element to be exploited IC to see how it would affect a character.

Hows about the longest fight award.

BTW K'Hare,  how long was the longest fight, both in this tournament and in the whole history of your program?

I'd have to search through all the fights to find out.  I meant to put the length of the fight on the top page and never got around to it.  I still might.  It's easy to do...

OK, I made the change.  Simply look for the most Rounds.

But its hard to say.  The first time I tried to make a change that would make the matches longer I had a test match that was more than 800,000 just for the one match.  Then I developed the compression algorithm.  That took a few weeks by itself.

Basically, each time I make a change to the way the code works, you shoudn't compare the results.  So someone could do the search and figure out what it was for this tourney.  After the tourney, the program will change again.  I've got a lot more to add.
