Replying to this:  http://www.betleh.com/cgi-bin/b4/YaBB.pl?num=1141902237

Just to be clear, the award kentra (and others) got isn't a trophy.  I guess I need to go back and make sure what is IC and what isn't.

The combat trophys are IC.  And they are trophys.  It is canon, we saw wor'Iv with one.

In year one I treated the RP award as IC even though it wasn't and went back to my ship and complained about getting a congeniality award... just because K'Hare getting that sounded funny.  Even then, the RP award was in part to behavior that got others involded and posting and adding to the backdrop of the tourney, i.e. the "esprit de'tourney"

And it seems the judges awards could be IC but if they are, then the RP one needs to be and it gets problimatic... especially considering who K'Hare awarded.

However, I do like the idea that the tokens for fighting with honor are IC.  That is, some committee of judges hands out little pins to the honorable fighters and some ferengi came up with an idea to sell the dishonor ones because some confused humans might actually buy them and wear them proudly.

So assume there is some comittee of old Klingon judges that give little things you can put on your baldrick if you fought with honor... just an extra thing to wear with honor.  And some ferengi sells the dishonor ones and some people actually wear them.

Like other things for your baldrick, you aren't required to wear it but tourney goers will recognize it and the habit would be to wear it with your tourney pin.  And yes, the attendance pin is something you have in character.  Each fighter and the judges and the host are given the pins as part of sign up.  Again, some ferengi is selling the attendee ones.  That just makes the most sense IC.

So, what kentra would have IC is a small oval for being a fighter and the honor pin which you could wear with your service ribbons.

The honor award and the glory award I don't see as things that would be handed out IC.  I have to think about that.  The overall honor award maybe... a committee could award that just like the mentions.  The glory is award is based on what people saw.  That's the award there.  People should remember roS' fights because they were so long and full of action even if no individual fight stood out, the NPC crowd would learn that his matches were the most fun to watch overall.

Does that make sense?

Wow that's a lot of thought put into a small mention.  If I'd known you'd have to think about it, I would have just not mentioned anything.

Sorry.

No, its not a bad thing, and I am not picking on you.   It's what I intended to setup just didn't get a chance to write something up.

The idea of all the Klingon awards is that they are something you can wear on your baldrick.  So that someone who knows the heraldry can look at your baldrick and say, "That person went to the betleH comp and fought twice... and with honor."

Note that all the awards look like coins.  That's a theme I am going with.  You have these things to put on your baldric and they are made so for the most part, they don't snag.  Someone looking at your baldrick can know something about you.  That's the design.

It's up to you and the viewer how much stock, IC and OOC you put into the awards.  IC, many might not bother to wear them.  K'Hare rarely wears the baldrick.  But on a formal occasion or at the betleH comp he does wear the 4 betleH pins because it has great meaning to him.

If I could figure out an agreeable way, I'd make all the awards be IC and be baldrick pins.

And I also forget to say:  for purposes of talking about awards, after betleH 2 Q'olavraH coined the nickname for the awards.  At b2 she says, "I won 4 sharpies!"

If they were Romulans or Ferengi they might.

Now I just need to get a baldrick.  I buried mine with my last body.

Some might.  Its not worse than wearing a cheng House badge.  (:}

And kentra, you don't have to have a baldrick.  Having one makes a statement I think... up to the viewer to decide what he thinks that statement is.  But you have an SF uniform so you could wear them with your ribbons on your dress uniform.

It all makes a statement IC.  (:}

* facepalms

Isn't him being on the Horizon when she comes back enough of a "I wonder what her reaction will be?" thing. You gotta go the extra step, don'cha? ;)

hmmm phosphorus... there's an idea.. I'll know when he's stalking me even in the dark...  ;)

By the way: question about baldricks in general. see I was under the impression that you wore one and that had your House symbol on it, but clearly that's not how it looks like now.. So, how do these thing work exactly?

Any warrior (Klingon warrior) can have a baldrick.  Essentially it is him saying he is a warrior.  Some houses have traditions associated with gaining one.   Usually its the Imperial Houses that make it more of an event or have more fancy ones.  Same with weapons.

Other questions?   Anything I should add to the database page?

So I'll be wearing the pins on my dress uniform for occassions when I celebrate my pampered life, as opposed to on a baldrick.

:P

That make sense since you are trying to resolve your Klingon connection, not embrace it.  Pacifist.  q:}

What sort of smiley is that?  Worf wearing a baseball cap in the DS9 episode when the Vulcans beat Sisko at his favorite game?

Klingon raspberry ;)

And That makes sense. It would be one hell of a statement anyone's non-Klingon is going to be making if they're going to wear that. heh

A balrick would look good with an admiral's gold lining...  ;)

Depends on the baldrick's design. ;)

Actually.. baldricks thing.. if they're meant to signify that the warrior passed all the tests and whatnot, wouldn't it be an insult if a non-Klingon wore one?

Title: Re: Depature - Kentra / Open
Post by K`Hare totlh on Mar 11th, 2006, 10:43am

Not if he passed all the tests.  And wearing it, would make a Klingon assume that person had passed the tests and was aware of Klingon custom.  And so, a Klingon's reaction to you bumping into him in a bar could be very different than some flathead wearing PJs who does it.

On KDB the students are under K'Hare's protection.  (Students have a special thing to wear on their baldricks.)  The NPC crewman all know they are learning so they have fun with them but know where to draw the line.  This helps the students learn.

Some of the students look fully Klingon so there could be confusing.  roS graduated and you should ask him what kind of trouble he got into because he missed a lesson.
