Wall of honour (part 2)
Feb 7th, 2006, 8:03pm

OOC Continued from here and from Wall of honor (pt1)

ON

<< Wall of honour >>

Dan took a deep breath as he stood in the shadows near the wall of honour, the Cheng blade seemed almost weighted for him. The replicated bet’leH he had been using until this point had always seemed too light or too heavy, Ch’mogs blade seemed more like an extension of his own limbs than anything else.

Since leaving Cheng pach Dan had found only a few idle moments to practice with the weapon, his first few swings were wildly out of control the differences between a properly forged blade and the one in his hand were unbelievable.
Now he just had to pluck up the courage to put his head high and place his blade on the wall, he could see several blades there already. Following form he would place his towards the outer edge of the wall, despite his blades heritage Taylor’s own prowess was almost unknown. He smiled to himself as he realised his own prowess was almost non-existent.

Finally he found himself unable to stomach the waiting a moment longer, hefting his blade he walked forward from the shadows. The security officers near the wall turned too look at him as he strode forward, with each other contestant they had surged forward to check them for extra weapons. Dan found it strange that he was above such checks, in his mind everyone should be subjected to the same rules. He wasn’t one for treating people differently, it was another way he and John seemed to differ.

To his left Dan could see a Klingon admiring his own blade on the wall, on his belt he could see the d'ktahg on the Klingon’s belt. Another battle John lost it would seem, again it underlined the differences between them a Klingon stripped of his d’ktahg was stripped of his uniform.

John just couldn’t seem to grasp that.

Standing before the wall Dan placed his bladed in the furthest spot from the centre of the wall, stepping back he felt a rush of pride. Inadvertently or with forethought poQ had given Dan a much needed boost of confidence.

<Wall of Honor>

Escorted by a marine security officer, Jason T'shir, Major, Marine CO of Atlantis walked up to the huge wall which spanned a huge distance, showing all combatants in the competition. His BatleH was one given to him by a Klingon marine exchange officer years ago. He had to pull it out of the attic a month ago to practice on the ancient Klingon weapon.

“There’s your name sir” The young security officer said pointing to the Major’s name.

Jason’s eye followed the line to a peg above Colonel Grenn. Smirking he placed his blade tentatively on the hooks. Standing back a second he admired the beautiful weapon for what it was,  an implement of death. Simple but true. Unlike his Samurai sword he’d left on the Reeve which he believed was the most beautiful bladed weapon of all time.

Smirking he quickly dismissed the 2nd Loui who was standing over him as there was a senior security officer in the room. He could sense the heightened security as the amount of armed under-cover operatives was staggering. ‘They must have called in for backup for this event’ he thought in his head. ‘Oh well’ Jason thought as he moved along looking at various blades already up and wondered at the battle’s he faced in the coming days.

Q'olavraH's duffel was over one shoulder, her betleH was strapped in it's sling on her back, and a bottle of bloodwine was in her right fist as she entered the arena.

She moved to the side of the door and stood, staring at the wall where all of the betleHmey would hang.  So far there were a few, but not many hanging there.

She finished her bottle of bloodwine and tossed the empty toward a slot in the wall that she knew was the recycling slot.  She had spent much time on Federation ships and bases during the rebuilding after the Dominion war.

The bottle went right in, despite her drunkeness.  She stretched her side.  It was stiff, but getting better.

She kept her duffel over her shoulder and moved toward the wall.

Over the past year she had grown much.  No longer was she the naive be' who had let ta'pez of the House of cheng almost kill her last year.  To much had happened to her.  To much that had tried to compromise her honor and steal her pride.   She remained unbowed and untainted, but there were things inside her now that were new, and she could tell that they were dangerous and did not bear close scrutiny.

She stopped as one of the guards moved toward her and stopped.  "You are Q'olavraH?"

She gave him her best imitation of a friendly smile.  "I am."

The guard smiled back.  "You know the rules for weapons are the same as last year?"

Q'ol nodded briefly.  "Yes, I know."

The guard nodded and did not search her.  "You showed great honor last year, I was privledged to watch you fight.  What you did, it was ... magnificent."

She eyed the large human male for a moment.  "You understand Klingons?"

He only smiled and she saw something in his eyes before he moved back to his post and left her alone.

She quirked a brow and then reached behind her head and unsheathed her blade, then reached back again and grabbed another bottle from the pocket they rested in, in her duffel.  She used the blade to break off the top of the bottle and took a contemplative gulp, looking at the wall in front of her as she did so.

She looked at the betleH in her hand, holding it and turning it side to side as she did so, and drinking.

It was a new blade.  Tried and tested in many sparring sessions with K'Hare, the weHwI' and many warriors who lived on the station and the planet at Klach D'kel Brakt.  She had used it in battle once, and it had killed perfectly.

It had no adornment.  It was made to different specifications than most Klingon betleHmey.  She had the smith design it after the specifications of another betleH, one she had used that belonged to another, that she had liked the feel of.  It had been a move to make her stronger and even quicker, and it had worked.

She had never been more ready for battle than she was now.

The Klingon female took another long swig from her bottle of bloodwine and then placed her blade on the wall in the spot that had been designated as hers, then she turned and walked toward the door, intent on her plan to find where she was quartered.

toreQ finally came in, excorted by a young Human who seemed rather nervious about escorting the older Klingon.  He looked at the wall and shook his head.  Walking along the wall, he found the place his belong to and placed the still wrapped blade on the wall.  The blade was a gift from his father, on the day he had completed his first Right of Ascention.  He kept it covered, only to keep it's beauty. secrete until time to compete.

Looking at it a moment, in deep though he nodded to the young officer and headed out to find his quarters.

OOC Continued from IKS meH'Haj arrives, part II

ON

Taylor and K'Hare approached the wall of honour, remembering his own trip here Dan cringed. How would his friend react to the news he carried a Cheng blade?

It wasn't something he could worry about, the blade had been given in good faith and Dan would use it as such.

"Here we are, my blade is already on the wall. I don't know where you wish yours to go?"

K'Hare didn't look at the weapons on the wall.  He would look later to see who had signed up and arrived.  He quickly walked to the left edge of the wall at a set of hooks that were closer than the rest.  From his case he took a new, untested betleH with large symbol engraved.  The insignia looked like a Klingon trefoil but the smaller spikes were more complex, having small lines that made them look like feather covered wings.  It was a more ornate version of the symbol he now branded into each keg, the same symbol that had been on the keg he had gotten from his father and opened for the birth of Q'olavraH's twins.

K'Hare's weapon was an obvious contrast to the rest.  Most hung wide with their tips pointed up or down depending on various conditions but his was hung tall with the points toward the wall and those of the competitors.  He noticed that neither of the other judges had hung a weapon.  That was OK.  There had never been a challenge to a judge, no claim of cheating or bad calls that was not resolved before it came to that.

He looked across the wall to the far side.  There were no weapons on that side either.  Really there was no need.  Why would an attendee need to hang a weapon on the wall.  The sparring stage would suffice for any challenge but perhaps K'rahl or K'Trol would see the need to hang a weapon there and make their presence and readiness to defend their honor known to all.

This stuff with the judges weapons and attendee weapons being hung on the wall is new.  Just something I am adding to make the wall that much more complex.  The idea is that in 'the old days' the tourneys were more deadly and some extra weapons might be brought in by spectators so they could challenge an outcome or a dishonorable win.  There isn't a mechinism for this at the tourney and a 'modern' tourney wouldn't need the same thing as matches would be recorded making then easier to review.  Modern scanning would make cheating more obvious, etc.  Hanging the weapon up like this is just K'Hare nodding to tradition.

Dan took a look over K'Hare's betleH, not only did it look new but it appeared to have it's own crest on it. Since he met K'Hare he had been itching to find out why K'Hare had no house, part of the story had come out during Dan's stay on KDB. He was sure however that there was more to the story, perhaps one day K'Hare would spill it all.

He realised as he stood there that the previous year K'Hare hadn't brought a betleH with him, offering him the chance to hang his on the wall seemed the natural thing to do despite K'Hare not mentioning it.

A flicker somewhere in his mind told him he should know the insignia on the blade, but he couldn't place where it came from.

Before he could ask his comm badge chimed, he turned away from the totlh for a few minutes to answer before turning back.

"K'Hare it appears the third judge is arriving in an hour or so, would you like to accompany me to greet him or are you going to make your own way around the station?"

"Which one is it?"   Then he shrugged.  "Doesn't matter, either way, drinking will commence soon after.  Since you say third I guess we are all here.  Let's go collect them both and you can join us in the judge's quarters."

"Okay then, let us get a quick drink now to kill a bit of time before the third Judge arrives" He smiled "I know just the place, it's been a while since the barkeep saw me - I'm sure I'll be welcome again now" he patted K'Hare's arm "Come on"

Having had her bags checked Valkris was now being escourted to the wall of honor, she had been told about this tradition and that all competitors were expected to hang thier weapon here.  As she walked into the area the wall was situated she could see all the differet hooks at different stages for each competitor her name was one of the farthest out as she was new and not much was known of her skill, or lack of it.  Walking up to the wall she hung her mothers blade for all to see, the house symbol stood out as it had been made to look as though it's design was filled with the blood of enemy's.

This done she went in search of her quarters placed her gear on the bunk and headed for the bar.

Taj'vl took his bat'leth and placed it on the wall of honor, when a blade caught his eye.  It was not of someone who was fighting in this tournament.  It was ch'mogh's, and the name under it was... Dan Taylor.  What was the flathead doing with ch'mogh's blade.  Taj knew the cheng pach was docked, and he was going to find out.

after going to place his gear in the querters assigned him and Starfire, Satian took the black case containing his bat'leth to the wall of honour, finding his name on the 3ed level in on the left side he opened his case and removed his blade.  It was one of the finest he had crafted to date and had tasted blood in battle.  the green from his own blood added in forgeding had collected at the point end if the blade apearing to be that of an enemy fallen to the razer sharp blade.

The house crest was prominet in the center of the blade.  the Vulcan gliph of the assassan imposed over the klingon trifoil. very few off vulcan understood the meaning of the glift and though it nothing more then a mear decoration.

after placeing the blade on thewall he took a quick look at the blades already there. there was an incresed nuber of them that were little more then practice blades and thouse that did have house marks were well scared and used,  it would be a intresting tournement

This follows on from here, earlier during the day.

[ON - Wall of Honour]

For the second time since he'd arrived on the station, Lionel found himself under the watchful gaze of armed guards. Each man flanked the 'Wall of Honour' that apparently Beckett was required to place his newly acquired betletH on. It was the first time he'd had it out of his case since the mysterious Vulcan gave it to him. The weight of it was better than the other betletH's he used in the past, it was indeed of quality house construction and not the factory spec swords sold to tourists on the Klingon border. This weapon would do serve his purposes quite adequately.

He executed a few lose cuts and swipes at the air, the guards tensed, extra wary that the sharp and pointy betletH was now swinging around at considerably dangerous speeds. He stopped as suddenly as he started and picked a spot to mount his betletH. He looked at the other weapons on the wall, each unique in it's own subtle way. Beckett had never cared much for weapons in the past, they were simply tools to be used and discarded. Weapons with sentimental value weighed one down and when there were an entire factory line of identical models, what did it matter anyway?

"Waste of my time..." He muttered before turning and leaving the room through the main doors. He had to play the part, if only until he could get what he needed. Jumping through other people's hoops put Lionel on edge, more so than he'd care to admit. Not that he cared what people thought of him anymore. He didn't need anything except his wits.

Continuing on down the corridor...
