ON << Taylor's Quarters - Serenity Base >> Dan had been waiting for Jackie to arrive for over an hour, thankfully the pain he had felt earlier was starting to disappate. He hadn't wanted to go see the bases doctor. Explaining how he got a knee in the neather regions or more importantly why he got them wouldn't have been fun. Several asprin's and a cold pack had sorted him, at least well enough for him to start moving again. PErhaps by tomorrow he would be feeling the effects again, if so he could always take himself to sickbay. 'I'm kidding myself' thought Dan as he looked to the table in front of him again. IT was true, he hadn't been waiting for Jackie to arrive. He knew he could easily call her up here earlier if he wanted. No, his mind was pre-occupied by one thing which was signified by that little black box on the desk. A little over an hour ago Starfleet Intelligence had contacted him once again, this time with an ultimatum. Return to the fleet, or be cut off from Starfleet forever, more importantly if he was cut off Scardia's help would be too. It was tantamount to blackmail, yet Dan didn't mind. The mere thought of that scared him. At some point, perhaps even before betleH he had made the mental decision to rejoin the fleet, all it would have taken to arrrange would have been a single subspace message. Yet he had held off doing it, prefering instead to keep his civilian status, it allowed him to run if he decided too. He was a part of Starfleet but not at the same time, it was his comfort zone. In one fell swoop that zone was being taken from him by Starfleet once again, he was being forced to embrace something before he was truely ready. In the end that was the thought that scared him most, his life and career was being manipulated again, and this time he wasn't sure he minded. He had already sent his reply to Starfleet Intelligence, truth be told that was the easy part. Now he was left with the harder part, the personal battle. In the months since his resignation at the last betleH Competition Dan had on occasion been forced to wear a uniform, but never any insignia of rank. The small black box in front of him would change that, and his relationship with most of the people aboard the station, including John. He just wasn't sure he was ready to do that. 12 months of relative freedom, 12 months without having to watch his p's and q's, 12 months that just had to end now. He reached forward his hand shaking and picked the box off of his desk, sliently he opened it and pulled out the contents. He stared at them for a few moments before walking in to his bedroom. When he returned 5 minutes later he stood in front of a full length mirror, his duty jump suit gone instead it was replaced by an admiral's uniform complete with a set of Rear Admiral's pips. He had to admit he had missed the feeling that came with it. Now he just had to put up with the next few days, he simply wasn't sure how those who knew him would react. OFF Tag Jess, dinner in my quarters
